McNair Needs To Decide His Coach Based On 2011, Not 2010
It's not about who should be the 2011 Houston Texans head coach, but it's about why [insert coach here] is retained or hired.

Excellent Read
I don’t think we have to worry about Bob making reactive decisions, that’s not how he became a self made business man. If anything he’s the polar opposite. Very calm and thorough.
I remember reading comments from Kubiak about having end of the year meetings to self evaluate. I’m sure they’ll do the same this year and that’s where McNair will hear all sides. I trust that he’ll do something to improve the team next year and forward…..what that is, I have no idea.
When we discuss the overall progress and success of the franchise, we have to give credit where credit is due. Not only has Kubiak improved the team in several milestone areas, but Bob McNair has also mad improvements as an owner by bringing in a mostly confident staff.

Kubiak Needs to Help McNair's Decision-Making Process Along
Wouldn’t it all be easier and not to hurt anyone’s feelings if Kubiak just step down?

I think that there's a couple of reasons that won't happen, Rip:
1) I think that Koobs knows that he is doing everything that he can do to field a winning team.
2) I think that Koobs is aware that ""efensive scheme is what is keeping them from having at least an average defense.
3) I think that Koobs knows that they lost key defensive players this year which hurt them.
4) I think that Koobs knows that they faced the (currently ranked) 7th toughest schedule in the NFL this year.
5) I think that Koobs knows that his inexperienced secondary is only going to be better next year with a year’s scars and nightmares behind them.
6) While he still thinks he has a chance of turning things around, I don’t think that Koob’s competitive nature will allow him to quit.

i can't delude my self to think Kubiak is capable of getting the Texans to the playoffs
Sorry. I’m not buying any sob stories that he deserves another chance.

Yup, I know that boat has sailed...
I really started out to just say that Kubiak is probably too competitive to just give up… but then I got carried away…
I’ve prepared myself to deal with whatever happens and in fairness I think that Kubiak has had a fair shot… I think he got some bad bounces, but all coaches do and they succeed by building teams that are sufficiently superior that they can absorb those bad bounces and still win.

But what about the slow starts on offense
That is what worries me most after we change DCs and get better on D

You make a lot of good points. At the end of the day season, can Gary Kubiak improve on this season? Can he identify his mistakes and straighten the ship? If so, then having him stay is better than finding someone new.

Who here has unlimited patience?
Last season Kubiak received one more chance. You now know the result of that extension.
If he gets another extension and next season is a repeat of this season, what will you say a year from now? “I’m glad Kubiak had another chance to dissapoint!” ? If you are in the camp who wants Kubiak to stay on, you cannot say that. You ask for it, you get it, you can’t complain.

Its kinda like the whole Kris Brown thing
Brown was quite consistent, and a good guy overall but after the 09 season it was time to move on. Had he stuck around and missed another field goal that would have been the end of him. Sometimes its best just to part ways, especially after a season like this.
But a HC is not a Kicker
A Kicker or Punter can be slotted in. There task is the same, no matter who they play for.
A Head Coach is an incredibly more complicated position and everything they do affects everyone else in the organisation. I’m not convinced that bringing someone else in will be good for the offense.

and offense alone does not make the team
When our team fails, again and again, the offense is still a part of that. It is very possible for us to sacrifice our vaunted offensive yardage production, in exchange for wins.
For every ’99 Rams who won a Super Bowl, there are always 10 more boring offensive champions in comparison, like the ’00 Ravens, ’01 Pats, ’02 Bucs, etc., etc., etc….
Not that I believe our offense would be anywhere near “boring”, even with a more simplistic approach…
This is the ultimate team sport. Each phase of a team affects the other.
Obviously, we have the most vaunted 8-8 offense in NFL history.
Like I said on the other place
McNair needs to have the GM make the right decisions – is his GM capable of these?
I believe that the Texans need to score 40 points in every game to be competetive because of efense.
