Post-Game Reaction: Broncos 24, Texans 23

Your Houston Texans went into halftime up 17-0 on the Broncos in Denver. They lost 24-23. That pretty much says it all.

This team is a complete and utter embarrassment. Vent as you see fit in the Comments below.

Past time to get a real coach.

Too much talent on the offense to be embarrassed by such a losing season. If we had any kind of defense we would be looking at the playoffs instead of the off-season. Kubiak cannot build a winner because he is too damned conservative and I don’t think he has a defensive mind or the ability to think defensively. 4 unskilled, inexperienced rookie d-backs prove that point. I have been a loyal Texan fan since the franchise was born here in Houston but now even I am more than fed up with this perennial disappointing organization. As much as I hate Jerry Jones I have to say that even he knows when it time for a change. Wake up main office! How frigging log do we have to wait to see some returns on our loyalty! No excuses… get someone in here that can win, not 10 years from now, but now.

Yep, Fire Kubiak. Yet another game lost by inept playcalling. This time on the final drive. Again, no need to put up passes like that with plenty of time on the clock and no hurry and the best runner in the league. Kub has lost more than a hand full of games this year directly due to his playcalling.

by SuperSerial on Dec 26, 2010 6:49 PM CST up reply actions

Yes, plenty of time

when arguably in FG range already, no need to keep airing it out. Period. Keep the ball on the ground where it’s relatively safe and let Rackers rack one in for the win. This isn’t rocket surgery.

by SuperSerial on Dec 27, 2010 4:40 AM CST up reply actions

So what wouldve happened if we ran the ball

and Foster/Ward fumbled it? Still Kubiak’s fault right? SHOULDVE PASSED THE BALL INSTEAD OF HANDING IT OFF! SHOULDVE JUST KICKED THE FIELD GOAL THERE EVENTHOUGH WE’RE FACING THE OTHER DIRECTION NOW AND THE WIND IS BLOWING THE OPPOSITE WAY! FIRE KUBIAK BECAUSE WE ONLY WON BY TWO POINTS WHEN WE SHOULDVE TROUNCED A TEAM LED BY AN OVERRATED ROOKIE! RAH RAH FUCKING RAH.

as Kyle is wearing out his welcome. He was never really the OC here. Only in title. But Kubes created the gameplans and called the plays. Bronco fan here -

We are a bad team, this is true, but you make it sound like 5-10 is somehow miles better than 4-11. I’m not real sure about that logic. It was a win for us, no doubt, but let’s not make it out like the Texans were 10-4 and heading to the playoffs. We aren’t running around going “we beat the Texans!!!” Sorry, it’s just not that much to get excited over. I guess the difference is we already knew we were a bad team, it sounds like you are just figuring it out. It sucks, but at least the season is almost over for both of our teams’ sake.

Its saddening, really, that the fanbase is used to such a terrible disappointments – usually in the closing minutes of the 4th Q. So many games that we could have, should have, would have won. But, we all know how that goes. Sadly.

IMHO

I know there are no moral victories, but I’d rather lose close and know my team faught hard until the end. At least you guys didn’t give up 59 to your worst division rival, ever. Now that is demoralizing. And another thing I can’t quite get, you guys obviously want Kubiak gone, and rightfully so, yet there are many over at MHR that want him to be the next coach of our team. I just don’t follow. Maybe, and I think it is a good possibility, he will go join Shanny’s staff in Washington. That would probably be best for both of our teams. Here’s to the off season, yet again.

People with amnesia still remember Tim Tebow.

by grind_core on Dec 27, 2010 4:03 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Maybe it ain’t an impressive win for you guys, but it’s an embarrassing loss for this team.

As bad as all of these “close losses” have been, this one is the worst cause it wasn’t against the Jets, Ravens, Chargers, Jags, or any other team in the playoff race….it was to a team that got smacked around by the Cardinals two weeks ago and was being led in by a rookie QB.

I knew things were bad, but I didn’t think they were this bad. I stand by what I said.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Dec 27, 2010 3:22 AM CST up reply actions

And I wasn't taking a shot at your team, just to be clear.

I just realized that it was two pretty bad teams playing. But how about Foster, that dude is beastmode. I think both teams will rebound next season. You guys have a lot of talent on the roster, and we have Tim Tebow. Now we just need to get someone in the front office that knows how to draft defense.

More like a dumbass draft pick... Mario????

Paleaseeeee!! I think we deserve better than we have been getting from the coaching staff and the front office. For that past 5 years or more I’ve been hearing we’re building our defence. We get top pick and we pick Mario no show Williams who can’t put a consistent season together or come near the so-called prestige that top draft picks are supposed to prove to be. We’ve had high picks because we can’t play for $h!+ on the defensive side of the ball. Our building efforts are all for this? We start 4 rookies that don’t know their ass from the turf they so frequently find themselves sitting on. Did I say I’m fed up? Should have!

by TexansDC on Dec 26, 2010 6:51 PM CST up reply actions

Two things.

1.) I believe you can swear here.
2.) Mario is basically our entire line, without a secondary that can hold pressure long enough to let the front seven get to the QB. Also, he’s been consistently injured throughout his career.

by TSSaloic on Dec 26, 2010 6:53 PM CST up reply actions

Mario who?

Granted, Mario has been injured a lot.. with good reason… he has been the basic of our pass rush but it has still been sporadic even when he is not injured and that only bolsters my point about the defence. The biggest problem is that we have not had any pass defence at all. Yes, I’m bashing Mario but he is not the real problem /sarcasm.

It is still the front office and coaching staff. May not look smart but neither does going 5 and 11 unless they get lucky against Jacksonville next week and if they do get lucky, 6 and 10. Give me a break.

by TexanTired on Dec 26, 2010 7:17 PM CST up reply actions

I'm seeing a pattern

For some reason I don’t think you like Mario. I’m guessing you’re a closet VY fanboy. In his first 4 seasons Mario has averaged almost 10 sacks a year and 40 solo tackles. I’d love to see how often he’s been double teamed or pressured the QB. I’m guessing one reason it’s sporadic is because you get tired of being the only one to produce.

Please stop talking...

If you don’t know what you are talking about. TexanTired…do you watch Mario Williams? For one game, watch all that he is trying to do.

Let’s start off with the fact that he had been banged up all season, will end up playing 13 games this season and will still provide 8.5 sacks. 43.5 sacks in the last four season, with absolutely no other help on the line and constantly being double and triple teamed…is pretty good to me.

Maybe if McNair would stop being a jew with the checkbook and open it up for someone (Antonio Smith doesn’t count. He is terrible), Mario could do even more.

They need to clean house, IMO, and with the top-ten pick in a D-line heavy draft, grab someone that can give Mario help (except maybe actually do some homework this time, since Travis Johnson and Amobi Okoye were/are jokes).

Whoever coaches next, please get a good OC ( Keep our current one, maybe Kyle Shanahan)

by TSSaloic on Dec 26, 2010 6:12 PM CST reply actions

I was worried about this too..

and was the main reason I didn’t want to fire Kubiak. But realistically, with players like Schaub, Foster, Dre Johnson, Ward (nice backup RB), Daniels, Dressen, Walter, a more consistent Jacoby Jones, these guys can succeed in any friggin offense.

With the total meltdown in the 2nd half of this team as a whole and allowing Tebow to look like an All Pro, I’ll finally admit that it seems Kubiak must go. And take his GM with him.

by selke99 on Dec 26, 2010 11:17 PM CST up reply actions

DON'T THINK SO

I do not think Schaub can be successful in any offense scheme but this one. He makes poor decisions. How many times yesterday an thought this season on 3rd downs did he throw to receivers well short of making the 3rd down. To many dam times if you ask me. I know everyone here is a schaub ass kisser I am not. I saw him give up on to many plays because the blocking was not as drawn up. He does not just make it happen. I agree with the sentiment that this coaching staff needs to be fired. I just disagree that Schaub will be ok in any offense scheme

by DPar on Dec 27, 2010 1:50 PM CST up reply actions

Maybe I'm overrating him...

He is slow of foot. I think the throws short of the marker on 3rd down are just check downs when no one is open. I’d probably still put Schaub in the upper 3rd of QBs.

YES!!!!!

We Lost! I knew we would. Hopefully this seals Kubiaks fate, also we lose next week and get 6th pick in the draft, Prince Akumara. Because Kareem Jackson SUUUUUUUUUCKS. So does well… our whole secondary.

Also, Tebow is a winner. He finds ways to win. I know our pass D is SHIT but he was cool under a TON of pressure we brought and he read us like a book.

Also, I think our pass rush is average to even above average, especially with a healthy Mario and Barwin. Our 2ndary just sucks that much.

Nah. Cushing, Ryans, Mario are all pro-bowl caliber players.

Bush has failed to put them into position to be successful.

Sharpton looks good. Andersen has come on strong since we picked him up. Quinn has shown he can play at a high level.

The scheme is bad though. You can’t drop your Linebackers into coverage all day in a 4-3 and expect great things. The last few weeks, as Bush has called more blitzes, the defense has come up with more big plays.

Bush though he needed to use the LBs to help the secondary early on. The reality, as he discovered to late, is that the best way to help a BAD secondary is to get pressure on the QB.

by TexansForever on Dec 27, 2010 8:15 AM CST up reply actions

Our defence

was built to get pressure with the front four and they get absolutely no pressure at all. Sometimes when we bring 5 or 6 it looks exactly the same as if we we bring 3 or 4. It’s a Cover 2/Tampa 2 defence but doesn’t have the requisite player speed to be effective in that scheme. Frank Bush didn’t invent Cover 2 and with the right personnel it’s a highly effective scheme. You can blame Bush for trying to fit square pegs into a round hole, but ultimately, this falls on Smith and Kubiak if he really does have final say on all personnel decisions.

by Hugh Jarce on Dec 27, 2010 8:41 AM CST up reply actions

Though some good points

not 100%. Scheme has played a big role as to get pressure rushing 4 you need more time to fight through and around blocks. The corners need to not allow the quick underneath route designed for beating the rush. 8-12 yard cushions have allowed for mediocre QBs to march down the field and add to that the poor tackling = worst pass defense. Yes playing tight makes you open for the big play, especially when the corner’s movement skills are as sub-par as Jackson’s, but it also allows for more time for the 4 man rush to hurry the QB into a more inaccurate throw over greater distance. The Mannings, Rivers, etc will still hit a bunch but at least we won’t make every QB a pro-bowler

by sammocyr on Dec 27, 2010 12:28 PM CST up reply actions

Good Points but...

CB’s will not give large cushions if the coaches do not want it. The coaches want a large cushion because they have no faith that the line will get to the QB or that the S’s are effective at covering over the top. Just think about it CB’s can jump the 5 to 12 yard stuff but need help from the D-line or the S’s to prevent the long stuff because they will be in a trailing position.

by DPar on Dec 27, 2010 2:08 PM CST up reply actions

It was my point

that it was the coaching. But let’s be serious and admit that there are issues across the board. Coaching, managing, and player ability. People defend Smith solely due to draft picks like Cushing but would Matthews have been a drop if we wanted a linebacker?

Oh, don’t think that this thought didn’t go through my head this afternoon. I stopped at a bar in the Charlotte, NC airport. I saw part of the 3rd quarter and went to catch my plane just as the 4th was starting, the score was 23-23 if I remember correctly. I left and thought, man, it looks like Tebo is starting to take control and run more and it looks like he is hitting some long passes, same old, same old, what else is new. Now, here I am, very disappointed, because the Texans never should have let that happen to them. I am in disbelief, but belief at the same time. How appropriate.

BOB McNAIR is to blame!

He is the CEO / Owner. He has ultimate responsibility. Rick Smith failed. Gary Kubiak failed. Frank Bush failed. And the players failed.

Sean Payton took a 3-13 team and turned it into a 13-3 team in one year. Kubes took a 2-14 team and turned it into a 6-10 team. That should have been enough to fire him. There ain’t no 3-year plan. There are countless stories where teams have been fixed in one year.

Bob McNair has had 8 years to get this team fixed. He didn’t. It is his fault. He can fix it or not. But history says he will not get it fixed.

What's sad is...

when we went 9-7 the colts went like 14-2. Like we’d ever see double digits in the win column.

texans were

7-9 in 2004, also.

I was at the BE-SFs game in 2005, it sure looked to me like we were tanking for the #1 pick, so we weren’t 2-14 bad, imo that year either.

I think the two situations are more comparable than you imply. But their situations since then are different. We play 3 good teams in our division year in and year out, for one example.

Headline

The only headline I want to see next is “Kubiak and Staff fired”

Anyone else notice???

Anyone else notice that as soon as the tailgating policy at Reliant stadium changed, the Texans started loosing and have in fact only won 1 game since??? I think we need to change the rules back and party our asses off on Jan 2nd. I know I am!!!

Worst of all

Worst of all , I think we ahve the exact number of wins that Detroit has. Yes you heard me, Detroit Freaking Lions….

Remind me, but didnt they go 0-16 like a year ago???

At least

We can’t be surprised anymore. It’s not like any of us expected them to win. Not really. Sure, we wanted them to, but we knew better.

Has the Texans defense become too excruciating to watch? Clorox Eye Wash is the solution for you. Apply directly to the eyes & the slight pain will provide everlasting relief from the vision of the Texans Defense

I listened to Kubes' press conference today.

I don’t know if it was a Freudian slip or not, but, should we be concerned that he called himself a “coordinator?”

Does he know that his fate is sealed, or does he just think of himself as an offensive coordinator (which would explain a lot)? Or did he just slip up and I’m making too much of this?

I am a visionary, I am a genius, and now I am angry! Now help me find my pants!

A word of advice for Texans fans. Remember John Milton's Paradise Lost: The mind is its own place. It can make a Hell of Heaven and a Heaven of Hell. Kinda sums up the last nine years, doesn't it?

Thanks, J-Man

We need all the help we can get.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
