Speaking to coaches and executives today, hearing rumblings of Wade Phillips possibly landing as coordinator in HOU w/ Kubiak as head coach. Many, myself included, figured the Texans collapse, including an on-field fight, would lead to a taskmaster taking over as head coach...But from what I've heard this morning, that might not be the end result there.

Hell, if the choice is this or Smith staying and that shitty list
I’d be tempted to stick with Kubiak.
I think I’m gonna be ill.

I was ok with it when the Texans were in the Playoff hunt
and the clouds opened up and God said "I Hate you Texans Fans."
^^ this
I’ve come to grips that Bob is not going to do what is necessary for the team. Wade is a step in the right direction…but considering Kubiaks ineptness at coaching one wonders if any positive result in the DC change would be negligible…my question is this: Can an above average to elite offense and an average to above average defense overcome the HC shortcomings?
by BleedBattleRed on Dec 29, 2010 1:12 PM CST via mobile reply actions
Ah, Wade Phillips.
There’s a guy with head coaching experience to mentor Kubes.
::kills self::
Just your average, run of the mill hardcore casual Texans fan.
Hey
they are both natural coordinators, Wade has no idea how to run an offense, Kubiak has no idea what to do with a defense, it could work.

Now if they could keep Rick Smith's hands off the defense
We might have a shot!
/looks around
Who said that?

Bobby
I’m not against Wade as DC. I’m against Wade AND Kubes here together. Two of the biggest “Yes Men” in the league.
I agree
but I also agree with people who think that if Kubiak leaves, it might set the offense back some. In a perfect world, I would want Wade as DC, Kubiak as OC and someone better than both of them as HC.
by Bobbythegreat on Dec 29, 2010 1:22 PM CST up reply actions
Make that
In a perfect world where we have to have both Kubiak and Wade on the team together.

Dude! Everyone needs to quit using this excuse.
The offense is good, not great. They show flashes of greatness (Baltimore, Washington games) but they aren’t the juggernaut everyone here thinks they are. Juggernaut’s don’t have complete halves where they consistently score only 7 points or less.
And the great offensive players we have will remain, with or without Kubiak.
by Mike Kerns on Dec 29, 2010 1:26 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
They were far better...
Without Kubiak calling plays last season. I am still not a fan of Kubiak running the offense. Not one bit.
I know it's an excuse
but it just seems way too much like something that would happen to a Texans team, fix the defense and then the offense craps out. That’s probably the only reason that I give any credence to the excuse whatsoever. Kubiak (or Vicini) has pissed me off numerous times with his offensive game plan, so I know that it can be done better
by Bobbythegreat on Dec 29, 2010 1:31 PM CST up reply actions
I think Wade can make our
defense mediocre, which is all we need to be in the playoffs. If we are dead set on keeping Kubiak, I’d want someone like Wade Phillips to come in as defensive coordinator.

Next Report
Will be that McNair is going to fire Kubiak, name himself head coach, promptly resign, and then hire the top peanut vendor from the old Mile High Stadium as the fourth head coach in franchise history.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Hey! That peanut vendor
Probably has a better defensive scheme than Frank Bush!

Well,
Compared to the list from last night, I’m not quite as ready to jump off the building yet. I believe a lot of analysts are just throwing mud around trying to see what sticks. Agents are included in that, too, I suppose. After all, if the mediocre to bad coaches are going to get jobs by next season they need to work on publicity now.
This is 10000000000000 times better
Than Sherman or Jackson.
We would change to a 3-4 though
by AllenOU on Dec 29, 2010 1:27 PM CST via mobile reply actions
Has wade ever run anything thats not a 3-4?
If not I think this is pointless and kubiak will probably be fired next year anyways
"The trouble with programmers is that you can never tell what a programmer is doing until it’s too late."
I wouldn't
if we had one person who could play lineman in a 3-4. With all the talent we need to add to the secondary needing to add a NT and two DE is really going to make this defense not sucking difficult.
"The trouble with programmers is that you can never tell what a programmer is doing until it’s too late."
This defense doesn't have to get that much better for us to be playoff worthy
and I don’t think this defense will get any better next year if we switch to a 3-4 but I think it can if we stick with the 4-3
"The trouble with programmers is that you can never tell what a programmer is doing until it’s too late."
I guess I just can't see how adding 3 more black holes of suck to our defense is a good thing
"The trouble with programmers is that you can never tell what a programmer is doing until it’s too late."
Ummmm...
> Shortened learning curve
> Instant assimilation into the efensive culture
> Long tradition to uphold
> Strong mentoring opportunities
(e.g. KJ: “I find that if I’ll commit just a split-second too soon, that it positions me quite nicely to fall down when the receiver changes direction…”)
(e.g. Antonio Smith: “I find that when things are already bad, that the easiest people on the field to fight are the ones that are wearing the same uniform as I am…”)
(e.g. EWWW… never mind… too easy…)
"velocitas eradico"
Well
I think there is a chance he keeps his job since he is under contract and there might not be a season next year. An owner might not want to pay 2 head coaches without the guarantee of a season to coach.
by Bobbythegreat on Dec 29, 2010 1:34 PM CST up reply actions
No, I think that's the beauty of the idea.
Kubiak will end up having cover next year because he can hide behind "We’re trying battling to convert to a 3-4 defense. He’s a good kid defensive coordinator and all the problems will be on him, still. McNair, loyal as he is, will buy it, hook, line, and sinker.
I think I’m going to go sit in the corner and rock back and forth, thinking of my happy place.

You too?
3 Sisters (1 older, 2 younger) and no brothers have taught me one very important rule of thumb…
Let the women think they know what they are talking about and NEVER question them on it. You may ultimately know better, but it’s better to just think it than to acknowledge it in any shape or form openly.
Yeah,
I presume he’s referring to the Smith/Cushing purses-at-dawn event. It’s kind of hard to take him seriously if that’s the level of understanding he has of what went down.

I think we are all idiots
If we believe kubiak won’t be back. He will as will Rick smith, and a new DC. I’m actually all for wade Phillips in this scenario

remember when that terrible list of potential replacements for kubes came out?
And all of you ran around pooping your pants for the rest of the day? And then you thought, “wait…this might be a smokescreen to make keeping kubiak seem less terrible.” That was yesterday. You’ve been had. By Barry Warner, Texans Ministry of Information.
Yes...as a matter of fact, that IS a pic of Steve McNair & Sahel Kazemi parasailing. Suck it, Titans fans.
