Antonio Cromartie Available?
via www.mkrob.com
I was reading the Shutdown Corner and saw this post about Antonio Cromartie being on the trading block.
What are your thoughts about this BRB? We obviously have a hole to plug at CB and we're holding an extra draft pick that we got from the chargers so why not trade it back to them for Cromartie? I understand that he hasn't been the same since his second year in the league but he's only 25. And he did pick off Payton Mannung three times in one game so why not take a chance?
Besides, he can't be any worse than what we have at CB(Jury is still out on GQ) right now right?
Disclaimer: I don't consider the Shutdown Corner a viable source of information. But the idea of bringing in a young CB for cheap definitely intrigues me.

I posted this in the FA CB thread
I’d give a 2nd.
He’d start immediately at a position of need for at least a couple years, and our 2nd would be a gamble.
He’ll be 26 on opening day. We get Pollard, Cromartie, Mario, DeMeco, OD all from the 2006 draft?
Mount Cody in round 1
I'd give them back their 5th or 6th
Plus a conditional 2011 NFL Draft pick depending on what Cromartie does.
I've read realistic compensation
would be a third rounder.
2nd is probably too high, but I don’t see them giving him up for that 5th or 6th.
It would be nice, however to basically get Cromartie for TJ! HA!
Mount Cody in round 1
Third would be more realistic.
I agree.
I like the conditional pick in the 2011 draft.
So yeah a third and a 5th of a 6th depending on Cromartie’s performance sounds like a good deal to me.
A conditional
Could change (depending on parameters such as time played, performance, team success).
He’s not worth a 2nd…not the way he’s playing now. Even a 3rd might be too much (especially if C JD Walton can be had there).
hope and change
we know what we have with Cromartie, and the draft is always a crapshoot.
I say if its cheap (4th? or lower) Cromartie is definitely worth it.
Mount Cody in round 1
No way man
we’d have to have OD and AJ runnin perma-wildcat, since we’d have NO backs.
I’ll give a pick all day before I’d give 1/2 of our hope of a potential, maybe, if we’re lucky rushing attack in 2010.
Mount Cody in round 1
Any time we can put the ball in AJ's hands...
I’m for it.
The Wild Johnson sounds like it’d find the gaping holes in opposing defenses.

or, a BRB poster, maybe???
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

I don't think he's worth a 1st anymore
I’d have a hard time seeing a team give up more than a 3rd for him now, and they’re not going to offer up elite level RBs for him either.
I doubt they’d want the #20 pick in the 3rd round for him and the only back we have that has any value at all is Steve Slaton, and I can’t imagine he has much right now after his lack of production and his injuries last season.
So while he’s available, I think it’d be an uphill struggle for the Texans to make a trade for him as long as there are other teams interested.
Personally, I hope this doesn't work out for them...
I hope they’re in a bind come draft time to the point where they may offer a package to trade up to get Jahvid Best (maybe around pick 20).
I’d love the option of trading back.
Yea
Then get Cromartie, trade them 1st round picks, and give them a 3rd rounder or so. Even if Cromartie isn’t the guy we thought he was a few years ago, he’d certainly be a better corner than any 3rd round pick we could pick up.
Why would we give them a 3rd rounder...
if they’re trying to move up to grab a player before someone else does?
Because we trade 1st round picks with them
Thus allowing them to grab said player before anyone else does, but I’m not sure a few slots in the 1st round alone will be enough for them to trade Cromartie outright, it’d probably take an additional 3rd or 4th rounder at the least.
Now if we could get them to just hand him over to us on a silver platter for nothing, i’d be ok with that too.
That's what I'm saying though
They’re trying to get their targeted guy before anyone takes him. Supply and Demand basics here. If they want it then we have the leverage. If they don’t take it…doesn’t hurt us.
It’s kinda like what the Rockets GM did to the Knicks on the McGrady deal…sometimes you gotta be aggressive like that.
Two Words

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
That's some kind of fallacy
I’m not sure which one, but I’m sure it is. Just because we once screwed up with a defensive back doesn’t mean that we will always do so.

Re: Fallacy
Totally agree that it’s not apples to apples. Just think it demonstrates the risk and potentially high cost of pursuing a young CB who’s tailed off in recent years.

its been proven time and time again.
Trust the evaluators.

Cromartie is not that great...
Really, we might as well keep Dunta if Cromartie is the other option.

both are possible
its uncapped year, and I’m not writing the checks!
Sign em all!
Mount Cody in round 1
Give them
Okam and a 4th round pick. Hell they took TJ so it’s not too far off. Then when we play them this year we can just run up the gut every play against Okam and TJ (disclaimer: running up the gut every play assumes ragdoll is not at the center position).
Confucius says "man who stands on toilet, high on pot".
From wikipedia:
“Antonio Cromartie has seven children living in five states, and has been named in at least five paternity suits in the past two years.”
The stats don’t lie.
Yikes

No wonder....
he has so many last names…

I can't see him on the Texans
dude has like ten kids. I don’t really think that’s an issue but McNair likes character guys, and I don’t think he’d want to pay a guy who would probably have to spend his entire signing bonus on child support.
But he’s a definite upgrade over what we have imo.
Here is a few good reasons not to want Cromartie, and its funny to boot.

Yes, let's replace Dunta
with a guy who refuses to tackle. Makes perfect sense. I’m glad you found that because I saw a similar video but was not as funny. Plus, they highlighted how great he plays in the most important game of their team’s season. Way to go Cromartie!
