Via PFT. Considering that OD's coming off an injury, this has extra potential to get rather ugly.

If they don't wanna give him a long-term contract...

then trade him for a 2nd rounder (and maybe another pick).

I can’t blame the Texans if they did because he is coming off an ACL tear (his 3rd ACL tear of his football career). I’d be iffy on a long-term deal. However, it’s OD so people would understand if they did. I just don’t want to see another ugly player response to a contract talk.

Sign him or trade him. Either way, stop dicking the guy around.

I don't really see the RFA tender

As bad money for someone coming off a season ending injury.

And I think these comments might poison the trade well too.

I don't either

but then again I don’t think any athlete is getting underpaid.

More or less, I’m just not interested in another ugly contract response. I’m all for solving the contract issue or trading him (actually, I’m more for trading him because of what we could get in return while not suffering too much of a hit depth wise). Like Displaced says, suck it up and work it out. Quit shooting your mouth off in an attempt to gain some leverage.

Granted, anyone with a pulse knows he has no leverage, but I don’t want this to lead to “Fuck OD.” I want to to be able to root for all 53 Houston Texans.

by TexansDC on Feb 18, 2010 5:09 PM CST up reply actions

What he said

I love OD, but he has a HELL of a lot less leverage than he had this time last year.

by HoustonDiehards on Feb 18, 2010 6:10 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah I agree

It’s a shame really. I mean we were pretty damn great on O until he went down. Then we were just good.

Franchise tag????

by AllenOU on Feb 18, 2010 6:49 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

yeah, not so much on #2

we lost the next four games after he went down.

I definitely thought this WOULD be the case, as Kubiak is an offensive juggernaut, but it didn’t. And don’t tell me the defense lost those games. Just don’t. I’ll have to start drinking again to get through the reply.

You can blame it on the line

As Schaub was harrassed in those games. Blame it on Kris/Chris Brown. Blame it on missing a TE? Say that out loud…OD’s a Pro Bowler, but a TE shouldn’t make or break your offense.

The offense still moved and got points.

Bottom line with OD: 4-3 (he got hurt early in the Buffalo game though)
Without: 5-4

by TexansDC on Feb 18, 2010 11:07 PM CST up reply actions

normally a TE would not warrant such praise, yes

But OD was a larger part of our offense than either of the Brown boys, or even our WR2.

He was second only to AJ in importance to the offense in those first 7 games. Schaub was harassed in those games, maybe his checkdown TE wasn’t open like he was used to?

I really hope he wasn’t a factor, and we can plug Casey in. I really thought this would be the case. But I didn’t see it play out that way. I could be wrong.

No, I understand that...

I just don’t want to put OD on that pedestal.

When Schaub went down against Jacksonville…the team was not the same. With OD going down, yeah we lost a Pro Bowler, but we were still going. Maybe not as we used to go, but it wasn’t as if JD was playing like Sexy Rexy. That’s what I mean when I say you can’t pin it all on losing OD (at least I hope not.)

by TexansDC on Feb 18, 2010 11:47 PM CST up reply actions

dreesen

the startup problems with Schaub and Dreesen has to be because they weren’t in sync.. after a couple of games he actually became quite a bit important and really good

I thought about that

and I truly hope this is true.

I really want our TE position to be less dependent on OD.

Well

At least he didn’t post this complaint on Facebook.

If he sits out training camp I’ll like him less then Dunta. With his injury he has no leverage and he needs to put on the big boy pants and realize that.

I say give him the 1st round tender

Wouldn’t mind one bit if someone gave us a first round pick for him

I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

Everyone has...

Cincinnati taking a TE in the 1st round. Why not deal him to Cincy for that pick? Maybe see if we can get a conditional pick for next year too.

by TexansDC on Feb 18, 2010 10:22 PM CST up reply actions

I wouldn’t mind even trading him to Cincy for a 2nd and a 5th. That should be an easy deal to work out.

A 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd...

We would be walking out of the 1st 2 days looking very good.

by TexansDC on Feb 18, 2010 11:08 PM CST up reply actions

I'm down

if that’s an easy deal, I’d take that every day.

A 2nd and anything, imo. The “anything” is a huge bonus. OD is coming off an injury in a position where we actually have some depth.

Well, here's a more current interview

Only talk about the team and playing football. If the interviewer asked a question about his contract, it didn’t get printed.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

ODs Mistake

Hiring Dunta as his PR consultant

Tender him wita 1st rounder. If someone bites, everyone wins. If no one is interested, it says that he’s probably not as valuable as he thought.

by kozanack on Feb 19, 2010 10:36 PM CST reply actions

Its all posturing

until he actually does it.

Don’t condemn him until he misses a day of camp, or writes something on his shoes.

He could be making a business decision with his statements. This is not to say his words are the right words, however. Just that its a possibility.
