Who's In Need Of A Good Laugh?
I hope you're ready to laugh at Sporting News. Quite frankly, what they said puts them on the level of The Houston Comicle. The entire article is here, but the part you will laugh at is below the jump. Head there and give it a read.
Best cover corner
Best bet: Leigh Bodden, CB, Patriots (unrestricted)
Bodden played well in his first season in Bill Belichick's system. He has excellent vision and instincts, the athleticism and agility to make plays on the ball, and the size and strength to be aggressive in press coverage at the line of scrimmage. He is adept at handling a mix of coverages and is a willing defender against the run, which is why we expect New England to bring him back for another season.
Best buy: Dunta Robinson, CB, Texans (unrestricted)
Robinson has irritated the Texans with complaints about his contract, and some teams might be wary of his injury history, though he was able to get through all 16 games in '09. If the Texans decide not to put the franchise tag on him again and he leaves, Robinson's new team will get a quick, agile athlete who can turn and run with any receiver, has smooth hips and possesses great catch-up speed. He will jump routes and make plays on the ball, but he hasn't delivered on the stat sheet recently. A fresh start could jump-start his career.
There you go. Apparently we'd be missing out on "the best buy" in free agency. Laugh away. Rip away. Have at it, BRB!

This next week will be interesting.
Next Thursday is the deadline for the Franchise tags. If the Patriots cannot get a deal worked out with Wilfork (who I assume they want to keep), they’ll put the franchise tag on him, leaving them trying to work a deal out with Bodden in a short amount of time. Only hypothetical at this point, but becoming a greater possibility each day.

They could slap a transition tag on Bodden
That at least can let them match any offer on Bodden without being committed if it gets too pricey (cause he will get offers). I’m kind of expecting them to do it now that I say it outloud.
Dang, forgot about that
I forgot that in the uncapped year, teams are able to have two tagged players. Yeah, the Patriots would be dumb to let Bodden go.

Wow
quick, agile athlete who can turn and run with any receiver
So this scouting report is from 2006, huh?
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
Jump routes? Make plays on the ball?
Yea… I guess that’s how he got all those interceptions.
proof that
nobody watches the Texans games.
They catch the SportsCenter recap when our highlights are played every other week.

You know what is even stranger about this article?
It is in the college basketball section of Sporting News. No wonder this joker rates Cunta so high.

I still say people here are too hard on Robinson
It’s strongly rumored that if he doesn’t get resigned by the Texans the Redskins will sign him, and they already have an entire roster of CBs better than what we have after Robinson… They could resign Rogers easilly if they wanted but reportedly would rather have Robinson.
Hell, i’d take Justin Tryon over most of our cornerbacks based on the way they played this past year. The fact that they’re so much stronger at the position than we are and would still consider adding Robinson an “upgrade” for the position, tells me he’s probably not all that god-awful or at least he’s not seen in that light by everyone.
I wrote a piece defending him that he wasn't that bad...
However, that description describes him as perfect. He’s quick and can run with any reciever…his make-up speed is great….he makes plays on the ball…..just this season, we have multiple shots of proof where that’s wrong.
Granted it was post-injury and with 2 years of no training camp, but last season was his worst season as a pro in a full season. His best season is still his rookie season.
Dunta is better than Rogers, who rode the pine some last year. Rogers used to be good, but, like Cromartie, he’s kinda dropped off lately. At the right price, I’d take him back, but I’m also honest that he’s not a top-tier CB and should be covering possession WRs, not speedsters.
I'm just not sure
I agree that last year was certainly his worst in the league, but i’m not sure it’s because of declining skills from the injury or if it had more to do with coming into the season in poor shape. He did get better as the season wore on, which leads me to believe his missing training camp and spending so much time away from football was at least part of it.
Robinson has always been a CB who relied heavilly on his above average athleticism in coverage. He’s always jumped routes pretty early and put himself in bad spots, but he had the speed and quickness to recover. Last year when he jumped a route and the WR made a double move, he couldn’t recover quick enough to get quite get back into the play.
Maybe he’s lost half a step from the injury, or maybe he lost half a step last season because he was playing out of shape. But he still has compareable athleticism to other CBs in the league, it’s just a matter of him having to adjust how he plays the position to compensate for that 1/2 a step if it doesn’t return.
Either way, for any team that can get him, as long as the contract is reasonable, they will be getting a pretty good corner, and if he snaps back to form and learns to play the position smarter he could be a great one.
Yes lets look at all the wonderful free agent signings the Redskins have made

For a recap of the Redskins free agent successes and busts this decade
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
When Shannahan joined the Redskins
He only did so because he was given control of the team, the new GM is a guy he can work well with ect. To compare this year’s Redskins, whose owner is expected to take a back seat for the first time ever, to years past probably isn’t going to paint an accurate picture.
I think it was just a dig...you have to admit
The Redskins owner has made himself a good target for criticism when it comes to free agents in the past. It will be an interesting situation to watch, especially because of the Denver/Texans connection going forward.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
I was mostly poking fun at the Redskins
But in reality EVERY free agent has been linked to the Redskins, and I don’t think theres many facts to back up any of them.

I dunno seems pretty accurate to me, he can turn and run with a receiver(5 yards behind him), and has great catch up speed when the “oh fuck, beaten” moment happens as the receiver is catching the ball in front of him. He will jump routes and make a play on the ball, they just assume you realize that he will miss the ball and whiff on the tackle as the other guy makes the play.
