Texans News and Notes

Jacoby Jones - WR Feb. 18 - 9:04 pm et
Coach Gary Kubiak believes Jacoby Jones should end up as No. 1 or No. 2 receiver in the NFL.
Kubiak joked that that he's had more meetings with Jones than he's had with his own children, but he insists that Jones is a "good kid," lacking only in consistency. Kubiak has been high on Jones since the end of the season, and the return ace has a shot to ascend to the No. 2 job with Kevin Walter an unrestricted free agent. Source: houstontexans.com
Steve Slaton - RB Feb. 18 - 8:51 pm et
Texans coach Gary Kubiak indicated that Steve Slaton (neck surgery) will be involved in OTAs as a non-contact participant.
Kubiak expects Slaton to be cleared for contact by training camp "as long as he recovers correctly." The Texans don't seem to be concerned about the long-term affects of the surgery, but Slaton won't be a great bet to play 16 games in 2010. Though he remains in the mix for carries, Kubiak is placing a "high priority" on adding a physical back with the ability to close games. Source: houstontexans.com
Owen Daniels - TE Feb. 18 - 12:42 pm et
Owen Daniels (ACL surgery), a restricted free agent, indicated that he may hold out of training camp this season.
Daniels was not happy about his lack of a long-term deal last offseason, and it appears he's prepared to wait even longer to sign his tender offer this year. Due to the lack of a CBA, the tender can only be reduced by 110 percent of Daniels' 2009 salary this time around. Source: Profootballtalk on NBCSports.com
Dunta Robinson - DB Feb. 18 - 12:36 pm et
Beat writer John McClain does not believe the Texans will apply the franchise tag on CB Dunta Robinson.
It would cost nearly $11M to tag Robinson in 2010. The Texans have not approached Robinson about a long-term deal, nor have they indicated to him that they will use the tag. McClain predicts the Redskins will sign Robinson if the Texans let him go. Source: Houston Chronicle Related: Redskins
Kevin Walter - WR Feb. 17 - 10:47 am et
Beat writer John McClain says that the Kevin Walter situation has been very quiet.
Walter is an unrestricted free agent and McClain "guesses" that he will be back with the Texans. We're not so sure, especially after coach Gary Kubiak went out of his way to praise Jacoby Jones after the season. Walter had ample opportunities to produce in a high-powered passing game in 2009, but managed just 11.5 yards per catch and two touchdowns. Source: Houston Chronicle
