Franchise Tags Have Nothing To Do With Steve Francis's Clothing

Settle down, settle down.  With today's 4 p.m. deadline for teams to apply Franchise and Transition tags looming, here is some random tag-related info for you to take home and give to your parents.  Feel free to use the comments to share and tagged-player news with the rest of the class.

Hey, you, in the back...with those French braids...what do you want to be when you grow up?

Cost of the tags in 2010.

Casey Hampton gets new deal, will not be tagged.

Other NTs no longer on the market due to tagging: Aubrayo Franklin and Vince Wilfork. And Ryan Pickett.

Seattle tags Olindo Mare.  No, seriously.

Indy unlikely to tag Gary Brackett.

List of all potential UFAs in 2010 (updated yesterday).

I love

That Reggie Bush is the highest paid running back in the league. I can’t wait for them to cut him.

I haven't been paying attention

Could that happen today?

A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

I'm not sure

But I don’t think so. Don’t know enough about when players get paid, etc. to know for sure. But it’s bound to happen before they give him ten million dollars to return punts.

by JimboTexan on Feb 25, 2010 9:42 AM CST up reply actions

no

Sean Payton has a hard-on for RBs that only get 3.3 ypc and tend to run sideways then fumble. But it won him the Super Bowl (sort of), so no one will argue with him about it. This year.

He needs to re-do his deal or he'll likely be cut....

or maybe traded to team that could use a RB (San Diego).

by TexansDC on Feb 25, 2010 11:14 AM CST up reply actions

How would he solve the problem

of needing a RB?

I always assumed "You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma" would be some sort of country music diss track. Live and learn, I guess.

by MDC on Feb 25, 2010 1:10 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

He wouldn't

He just takes a roster spot (San Diego cut LT and Sproles is a RFA….they need bodies).

by TexansDC on Feb 25, 2010 1:18 PM CST up reply actions

What is your name?

B: Bushrod.
Q: No really, i dont care that you think you should be in adult films, what is your name?

I sure hope

we get in early on the Nick Harper bidding.

So there are officially no worthwhile NTs on the free agent market?

by nolander on Feb 25, 2010 11:08 AM CST reply actions

doesn't look like it

and that may lead to the anticipated run on them in the draft.

by texanphil on Feb 25, 2010 11:10 AM CST up reply actions

Well, maybe

However, those teams looking for a NT have more than one hole.

by TexansDC on Feb 25, 2010 11:13 AM CST up reply actions

Well I was just thinking that the only teams left picking ahead of us who are likely to take Dan Williams would be Miami and the Bills, and it would be a bit of a stretch for the bills.

K Reed just got tagged

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AuhUHlljYuUvs6LnRpevw8lDubYF?slug=ap-steelers-hampton&prov=ap&type=lgns

Miss-placed Houstonian living and going to school in the wilderness of Wyoming. Fresno St. 28 - Wyoming 35 (2 OT)!!! Hands down best game I have ever been to.

I know kickers are important...

but franchise tags for Mare and Reed? Really?

by TexansDC on Feb 25, 2010 1:18 PM CST up reply actions

It makes me scratch my head also.

I guess the only upside to tagging them is its really cheap. Well cheap compared to other positions.

It keeps the player on your team

If you have a guy that is a dependable kicker, why do you want to lose him? Why scramble in the off-season trying to fill that spot?

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Feb 26, 2010 11:04 AM CST up reply actions

From what I can tell

Kickers’ salaries are all so similar that tagging a guy basically gives him a one-year contract right around what you’d have paid him anyway.

I always assumed "You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma" would be some sort of country music diss track. Live and learn, I guess.

and then there's

Janikowski.

Al Davis once again pushing the envelope.

F-tagging Mare.

It looks like Pete Carroll is off to a good start!

by Jordann on Feb 25, 2010 1:32 PM CST reply actions

Didn't the Combine start today?

….thinking,…maybe….maybe Rivers is stuck being routed through Newark on Continental….

I thought I would have seen an update from him by now….maybe Indy doesn’t have data capabilities for his BB…

Last thing I heard from him

is that he was stuck in an airport because of the weather.

by Jordann on Feb 25, 2010 1:49 PM CST up reply actions

He's there...

you can follow him via Twitter: @riversmccown. Some entertaining stuff so far, but nothing earth shattering.

Okay

I was hoping for more. I understand that it starts out slow.

So, he was on the podium? What’s up with that? Is that a Titans uniform he’s wearing?
