Mock Draft Tracker

There was a poll put out on BRB a couple weeks ago by bigfatdrunk and he suggested that he should get a 15 yard penalty for jumping the snap count to find out what position BRBers wanted the Texans to pick in the first round of the NFL Draft. I want to waive that penalty, because looking around BRB, it definitely isn't too early for prognosticating. Maybe there has been a little overload, and now, I may be guilty of piling on, but Meh! This is the offseason and prognosticating is all we have right now. What's that? There's still one more game to be played? Ha! Yes! I'll be watching it, but only so I can root against the Colts!!! Anyways, to make a long story short, looking at bfd's poll, their was not an overwhelming consensus preference by the poll-takers for that coveted number 1 pick. Frankly, I am surprised at the outcome, as I was in the minority, wanting an O-lineman. Finishing in the following order, this is what BRBers want in the 1st round:

28%  Free Safety
25%  Nose Tackle
20%  Cornerback
11%  Running Back
11%  O-lineman (taking liberty and combining OT, OG and C, because I would have voted for all three if I could)
1%    Wide Receiver

I can understand why someone would vote for any of those positions. What I want to do is use the outcome of the poll as the guideline for team need and analyze some of the major polls to see what the Texans' options might be come draft day. The drafts I will look at are Football's Future, DraftTek, Draft Countdown, Draft King, Consensus Draft Services, Football Expert and Walter Football. Keeping in mind that they change periodically, the results are mock draft orders as of today.

Of the seven mock drafters, the Texans' 1st round picks are (2) Safety, (2) DT/NT, (2) Cornerback and (1) Wide Receiver, (0) O-lineman.

If it is a Safety you want, Eric Berry won't be available. But, Earl Thomas and Taylor Mays are possibilities. If you are picking solely for need, Nate Allen is nearly guaranteed to be available at 20.

Regarding Nose Tackles, Suh and McCoy are lock Top 5. But, after those two, Brian Price, Dan Willams and Terrence Cody may trickle down to 20. If you had a choice, which poison would you pick?

At Cornerback, Joe Haden is the man. But, there seems to be either a low regard or no need for the other Cornerbacks in the draft. If you think this is a Texans need, then you will have plenty of choices at 20.

CJ Spiller seems destined to be gone before 20 at Running Back. If the Texans are wanting that coveted Running Back to fill in while Steve Slaton is mending, then it looks like the field will be open in the 1st round.

At the O-line positions, OT always dominates the draft board in the 1st round. This year is no different. Russell Okung will be leading that pack. After him, who knows where they will go? OTs Trent Williams, Anthony Davis, Brian Bulaga and Bruce Campbell are all highly regarded. OG Mike Iupati is too.

I didn't spend a lot of time on Wide Receivers, but of note, Consensus Draft Services has the Texans thinking WR, reaching with a long arm and selecting DeMaryius Thomas, Georgia Tech...go figure...
