2010 Houston Texans????
Here is my Texans mock draft. Everything is based on possibilities
I have Dunta and Pitts gone. I consider us resigning Pollard, Ryans, Walter and franchising Daniels. I have our free agent splash as Casey Hampton. He just achieved his 5th pro bowl and is the space eater the Texans need on the D-line to open up things for Mario, Amobi, and Barwin. This is my mock draft and new lineup. This draft is based on a trade between us and Minnesota in which Texans get picks #30 and #61 in the second round. Minnesota gets pick #20, #141 in the 5th round and #173 in the 6th round.

2nd rd. (A) - Nate Allen - FS - South Florida

I find it a bit of a stretch that you think 5 rookies will become immediate starters, or that we would carry 2 kickers. More likely is that only the first round pick is going to be starter capable with the rest needing development. A second rounder might work his way in there depending who we get, but 5 rookies starting is a bit absurd.

not a good draft in my opinion
we need a DT…so here you didnt draft any DT…also we are not taking a RB in the 1st 2 rounds…thats almost guranteed…
with those picks id go with Kyle Wilson (CB) in the 1st, Myron Rolle (S) and Jared Odrick (DT) in the 2nd, OG Johnson in the 3rd, and go RB in the 4th

I would officially crap my pants
If we drafted Patrick Robinson and used him as a #1 CB right off the bat. Right now P. Robinson is a poor man’s version of D. Robinson, that would blow up in our faces big.
I doubt seriously Byers drops to the 6th, he’s probably a 2nd or 3rd round talent that will slide to the 4th or 5th because he doesn’t fit the scheme of most NFL teams. I don’t think there’s any way he drops that far though, and it would be a travesty if he did, on skill alone he’s one of the better guard prospects in the draft. He’s just a bit undersized and will have trouble adjusting to a more traditional NFL offense.
There’s no way in hell Riley would beat out Diles in his rookie year.
And I don’t think Anthony Dixon is a good fit as a back for our zone blocking scheme, he needs to play behind a more traditional line where he’s just expected to plow straight ahead behind his lead blockers.
Overall, nice attempt though. It’s impossible to accurately guess a full draft, and even harder to predict draft day trades, but was an interesting read at any rate.
Eh.
Not sure why everyone assumes that a 3-4 NT is going to make a seamless transition into our defense.
Some minor details though; I’d bet that Kevin Walter doesn’t get re-signed. He’ll go to Washington with Shanahan. Furthermore, that offensive line still looks terrible. I like pretty much anybody in the world over Studdard, but starting a third-round rookie in a draft that isn’t particularly deep at OG is a bold move. Schaub’s ribs aren’t going to like that.
The problem with our O-line was mostly in the running game
They gave Schaub decent protection pretty much all year.
I agree with you on the NT though. The Texans haven’t started a true NT in Kubiak’s stint as coach, and their current defensive line coach is known for coaching and getting production out of aggressive undersized lines. If Barwin progresses too much this season, I wouldn’t be surprised if Smith moved over to UT in more snaps than not and Okoye slid over to NT.
I understand the thinking behind needing a giant space eating NT, and i’m not sure it’s not right. But i’m not sure the Texans are going to go that route. I think our defense is built to be more like the Colts than Vikings, and if Barwin developes as some think he will then you’ll start to see similarites. If we pick up a WLB with real sideline to sideline speed like a Weatherspoon, it’d go a long way as well.
I’m not saying we should aspire to be the Colts’ D, certainly we should want to be better than that, just that I think our style of defense is closer to the Colts than other more traditional 4-3 defenses in the league. If we do try to take a more traditional approach, then they’re certainly looking for a 4-3 NT. I just have a hunch that most of the talk surrounding “space eaters” are coming from fans, and that the team has other plans for the defensive line. But again that’s just a hunch, i’ve been wrong before.
We seem to be on the same page here.
I’m just not seeing any evidence that you need a 330-pound NT to run a successful 4-3 defense. The model here should be the Vikings or the Giants. Either way, this idea that you need a mammoth NT who takes up blockers but can’t rush the passer doesn’t seem to hold true for good 4-3 defenses. Pat Williams and Fred Robbins are big, but they can move and get to the QB if need be. Sometimes you get a freak like Haynesworth, Shaun Rodgers, or Henderson who has the size and speed, but very rarely does that happen.
And I’ll elaborate on my comment on Hampton. I think he’s a fine player and fits that system well, but for one thing, he’ll be 33 years old next season. I wouldn’t want him for more than a couple years, and odds are he’ll want more security than that. My other point: in 2004 the Steelers had the #1-ranked defense in yards and scoring. Casey Hampton played six games that season. How much of it is his doing, and how much has to do with playing for one of the greatest defensive coordinators of this generation and being surrounded by talent?
I don't agree
The Texans O-line was the 2nd worst at protecting the QB
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
QB Pressures/Hits would be my guess
Second worst only to Jags:

"380 pounds of pure pirogi" ~ Cush
Cutting down the pressures/sacks
would lead to that number being higher and those INTs being lower.
25 sacks; 12 in 6 division games. Tennessee and Jacksonville are both trying to improve their front 4s….it may be worth our while to improve the OL.
Speaks to the quality of the QB, WRs, TEs and the Game Plan, maybe?
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
with a running game,
we would become a more efficient and effective team with the play action. hopefully, we’ll be able to fix the problem (OL) that we have had for the past couple of seasons.

I would address Center, way before I address the guard position.

I'm happy everything was based on possibilities.
I’d hate to see this draft if it was based on certainty.

A 32 year old Pro Bowl NT
At Hampton’s age, he’s probably signing the last long-term contract of his career unless the Steelers hit him with the franchise tag. On top of that, to think that the Texans would out bid all the other up and coming 3-4 defenses for a pro bowl NT seems a bit tough. I’m looking at the possibility of Dwan Edwards from the Ravens. He’s not incredibly big, but he has enough size for a 4-3 DT and is great against the run. He has always played as a back up 3-4 DE and may be available even though so many teams are going to the 3-4 defense.

lately
I’m less concerned with any positions outside of:
1. CB
2. G
3. C
So if we have eight picks and we alternate between CB and OL, I think I’d call it a successful draft.
Mount Cody in round 1
I keep pusing the button but nothing works
Ok first off, it’s reported Johnson is a five four forty guy. If we’re lining up with two blocking TE’s and running the power o, he’s you’re man. However the Texans don’t do that. Your solution to the lack of the running attack ,and I use “attack” only as a descriptive noun as to an indication as to what it is supposed to be in the zone blocking scheme, is to .scrabble the cast of characters and hope for a “gel”. Pitts is thirty one years of age and a’ dangling FA. And I haven’t heard jack squat on Briseil. And you have them both on the roster. They have to have an o-lineman. and they have to have specifically an o-lineman who can protect Myers and do more than help or wait on a “gel” in the rushing attack.
TCU’s Marshall Newhouse fits. Pouncy fits. J.D. Walton fits. The one who fits the best is the Samoan no one wants us to draft with the twenty.
