What if we Traded down to the 30th pick
and got Ryan Mathews? for the record i dont really like the idea of RB in the first, but almost everybody in the Texans organization has said that RB is a "high priority" and might as well be our first pick. the vikes could use a DT, one half of the williams wall might retire and might need to groom a new DT, so price could be their guy and we can get Mathews. (again im not really a big fan RB in round one)

Well...
1. San Diego will take Mathews before then.
2. If we trade back, I want McCourty.
Mathews isn’t the answer.
Adding Mathews does squat for this team. He’s an average to slightly above average back who was made to look good behind a great line at Fresno State in a run-defense deficient Western Athletic Conference. The WAC is know for spread offenses and defenses built to match – not exactly hard to run up the yards.
Aside from that, Mathews doesn’t fit in Houston. Mathews may be a good runner, but he’s a guy that isn’t a good pass blocker or has good hands (for the screen game). When he’s in the game, it’d be a complete tip off that we’re running. Not only that, but instead of finding a full-time starter with our first round pick (like a CB or DT) we’d waste it on a guy who will split time with Slaton and, maybe, Foster. It’s a waste of a pick.
If the Texans trade back they should look to maximize their value and grab a guy like Devin McCourty. He’s someone who can come in and start for us at corner while using his 4.34 speed as a returner. We can wait on the running back. It’s not a must-add in round 1 or 2. Hardesty or Tate in round 3 would be a lot better while we add some other valueable starters.
What makes you say that he’s got bad hands and doesn’t block well? Where have you seen that?
Die hard Texan fan from the heart of Denmark!
I’ve seen a few Fresno State games. I’ve never been too impressed with Mathews. Most draft scouting reports also say the same thing.
I just keep reading everyone likes him..
MoveTheSticks
buzz keeps building on Fresno St RB Ryan Mathews… He is built for the NFL. His balance as a runner is rare. Made for the NFL

As a runner...yes
But there’s nothing there that talks about his bad hands or his weak blocking…..
He’s not worth the 1-20 pick.
well i hear that might want dwyer more
and like i said im not really a fan of takeing an RB in the first, but im just thinking of possibilities that might happen and if they want RB in the first well then i want Mathews
I really like McCourty over Wilson but wouldnt mind either
living the Texas dream
If the choice is Dwyer or Mathews
I’ll bite the bullet and take Mathews. Dwyer’s awful. 4.59 40 time.
Nor did I mean to insinuate that you believe a round 1 RB is the answer. I know where you stand Joe. You want teh Tebow.
not as pissed as Texans fans.

Part of me thinks
the Jags want someone else to take Tebow so they don’t have to deal with that whole situation.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
I was with you when I read the title
But then you lost me 4 words into the article
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
just think about it
it seems that the Texans could very well be looking at RB in the First and might as well get use to the idea and start picking favorites
living the Texas dream
Sorry...I am just 99% against RB in the 1st round
Mainly because RB is the shortest “lifespan” in the NFL. I think it averages around 3 years or so. (Someone feel free to look that up for me)
So using early picks for a position with the least years of payback to the team is bad in my book. I’d rather draft Defensive players or O-linemen early in the draft. (of course, assuming good scouting/drafting…..fuck you Casserly)
And in this draft specifically, there should be some good picks at NT, DB, & OL to choose from….meaning we should expect both a better short-term AND long-term payback for the team than any RB we could get in R1-2.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
i think it is like three years
just be shocked and break your t.v. or something if they get a RB early
living the Texas dream
I won't be shocked...
but I’d be pretty damn furious. I’d also seriously question what the hell this franchise is doing because it’d be a waste of a pick in my eyes.
And he can do that with Ben Tate or Montario Hardesty in round 3.
A round 1 pick won’t fix it. Especially with CB and DT needs.
Dan could be gone by 20 (Miami)
and Kyle is a little small and might get pushed around a bit early in the season. Would love to trade back and get McCourty
living the Texas dream
Why is Kyle Wilson small and would get pushed around
but McCourty would be just fine? Don’t get me wrong, I like McCourty more than Wilson, I’m just wondering your reasoning.

And McCourty is only 5-11
Is an inch really going to make that much of a difference?

Well then
why not skip on McCourty and Wilson and take Ghee with our second round pick?

I like both Wilson and McCourty but I’d much rather have bigger physical corners, I really like Murphy out of USF and Owosu-Ansa out of IUP. Both have good size and speed. Ansa may take a year to develop hes coming out of D2, but I think he has the potential to be a Champ Bailey type corner.
well Molden was player who still needed to be developed
and now hes dead weight at CB we need a CB who can be solid in his rookie year like quin but maybe with few INTs
living the Texas dream
We don't have time to wait for a may develop guy
McCourty and Wilson are better than any of the second round guys.
Ability matters more than size. (That’s what she said).
Wilson's better now...
but McCourty may end up better.
Wilson’s polished in his man-to-man technique, but he’s also a bit of a gambler and suffers a bit in tackling.
McCourty’s faster (4.34 40 time), an inch taller (5’11’), and a better tackler (80 tackles, 7.5 for a loss last season). He’s better in zone than Wilson is.
They both have experience as a returner and both have TDs to their credit. McCourty had 4 blocked kicks through his junior year. Dunno if he had any last season.
I like McCourty more and more every day.
McCourty sounds like a cant miss pick to me
because he doesnt sound like hes to good to be true
living the Texas dream
His problem...
is that in man-to-man he isn’t polished. He also doesn’t have a lot of picks. He can really improve his game, but he definitely has the physical tools to do so. I mean…4.34 40….it would be nice not to see a CB get burned.
Of course…the Texans don’t run a lot of man-to-man….
