A Trip Down Memory Lane
I was surfing around Football Outsiders the other day when I came across this very interesting article. The boys at FO went back and analyzed the 1993 NFL season. The interesting thing (for me, anyway) was that they spent a fair amount of time discussing the Oilers. Turns out that the Oilers' defense was better (based on DVOA) than their offense. I knew we had a solid defense back then, but FO ranks them second in DVOA, while the offense, which I thought was elite, comes in more in the middle of the pack. Also, Gary Brown >>>>> Lorenzo White.
Lastly, Indy is the worst team in the league according to these metrics.
Who knew?

that 1993 season...
was a special season for me mainly because I was married that year. The Mrs. and I were married the day before the Buffalo Breakdown and the next season was awesome. The Oilers won 11 in row after starting 1-4( sound familiar?) I was at the 11th win in a row against the Jets on our 1st anniversary.
I do remember the Defense being very good, but I think I remember media bitching a complaining that the offense was not as good as it should be (sound familiar?)
GO TEXANS!!!!
Our time will come...
Funny
I just started dating my wife when that game that shall not be mentioned happened. I remember being at the Double Dave’s on Duval, gorging myself on Roni Rolls and beer, and after the first two “other” scores, I warned her I needed to leave. I spent the next hour yelling expletives, the next 30 minutes in a dazed silence with several other Oilers fans.
These were good teams, fun teams. Haywood Jeffires couldn’t catch a cold, but he started. Hugene Seale was the best special teamer I’ve seen not named Steve Tasker (who was an Oiler).
But I feel like our little group of players is reaching this point, and I’m excited.
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

Jeffires..
Was on pace one season to catch 100 passes and it was a big deal. Shit if Andre doesn’t catch at least 110 he’s having an off year.
GO TEXANS!!!!

I liked Jeffires
But I loved Ernest Givens. That guy was amazing.
I agree with BFD, though. This Texans team is tantalizingly close to getting good. They remind me of that ’87 Oilers team that made the wildcard and beat Seattle after all those years in the wilderness.
Of course the Texans already have that gut-wrenching loss thing down pat, too.
I'll eliminate you like I eliminate gluten from my diet.

Jeffires
He dropped at least one for every three he caught. If he had hands in the least, he would’ve been a god on earth. If we could’ve cloned Givins and made the clone 6" taller, we would’ve had something.
I’m sad. I can’t find a video of the Givins electric slide.

Now you're just making stuff up
We all know that only people from Tennessee were fans of the Oilers.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
thanks
for the painful memories…we shoulda won it…can’t wait for the Texans to rewrite our tragic NFL history
Warren Moon
Is and always will be the player that made me truly love football. Also “that game” was the first sporting event to bring me to tears… granted I was 9, but whatever.
I need to get me a throw-back Moon jersey.
