How to fill the CB hole?
Finally Dunta Robinson is gone, well now we need a CB. We currently have Quin, Reeves, Mccain, Bennett, Molden, Parson (Am I missing anyone else?).
So who should we pick up and how?
Possiblities:
DRAFT: We can hope Haden falls, we can trade down or straight up draft Kyle Wilson...We can wait till round 2-4 to pick up CB;s like Cox, Robinson, Ghee, Arenas, etc...
Free Agents: Here is some new names I have just heard. I heard Nathan Vasher was just released. He is 28 and was a All Pro and Pro Bowler in 2005 (big part of the Bears Defense)...He has 19 picks in his career and is a product of UT (doesn't mean much).
Also Daniel Manning can be had...From what I have heard, he has a 2nd round tender placed on him but if a team signs him and the Bears don't match, it would only cost a 3rd rounder...He is also a pretty good Kick Returner.
Also Richard Marshall can be had for a 2nd rounder...
What are your thoughts...

Would’t mind bringing him in. It would be good to have experienced vets in our secondary. He hasn’t been the same since his injury, but maybe a different scheme and location will help. I’d like to see us bring in a capable vet to play alongside Reeves and Quin, then draft 2 or 3 cbs in the 3rd or later. I really like Jerome Murphy out of USF and Owosu-Ansa out of IUP.
Pass on Vasher. He's not a starter anymore.
Straight up draft Haden or Wilson or trade back a bit and grab McCourty.
CB really should be the 1st pick since we need a starter there.
wouldn't mind grabbing vasher or manning
then going Thomas in round 1, Mccourty in Round 2, OG in Round 3, Spikes (ILB (move meco to OLB?) in Round 4, Arthur Jones in Round 5, K and OG’s rest of way

I'm sure I'm the minority here
But I don’t even think that’s a downgrade or that we need a starter there.
At least in comparison to improving the pass rush.

You say that like trading back can happen no problem
CB should not be our 1st pick just because of need (Haden is the only CB worth taking in the first). The assumption is that we cannot find a quality starter outside the first round. However, if you are drafting a CB in the first round, they better be a shutdown corner, at least a #1 corner. I’m not saying that McCoury and Wilson do not have the potential to become shut down corners, but it seems like more of a reach/gamble for them in the first. I would rather go value with the first round pick then grab a CB at value in the second round.

I’d disagree that Wilson or McCourty aren’t first-round CBs.
McCourty is the fastest CB in the draft, is a sure tackler (80 tackles, 7.5 for a loss, last season), plays well on the ball (10 passes defensed) and is a force on special teams ( has returned kicks for a TD and 6 blocked kicks in his career).
Wilson is an athletic playmaker who can play CB and FS. He’s also returned kicks for TDs while being able to show the athleticism and skills to be on an island with his man.
Both are capable of starting for us from day one. Both aren’t that much worse than Haden…but they’s a good difference between those 3 and that next tier of corners (Franks, Jackson, Robinson) and then the 3rd round guys (Warren, Ghee, Cox).
You can go McCourty/Wilson/Haden in round 1, Morgan Burnett and his 4.42 FS speed in round 2…the secondary is significantly better.
Sorry
I did not state that well. I don’t think we should draft Wilson or McCourty at the 20th overall spot. If we trade back to the 28th spot, both those guys would be better value then.
