How do you keep a turkey in suspense?
I'll tell you after the NFL draft . . .
Yahoo Sports Texans Team Report
that seems to be the path that Smithiak is taking
• Free agent guard Chester Pitts(notes), who is still recovering from knee surgery, had visits scheduled with the 49ers and Jets after the NFLPA meetings in Hawaii. Pitts is still the Texans’ player rep. He went to Twitter to lobby the Bengals to bring him in, too. Pitts says he expects to be healthy between May 1 and June 1.
so no apparent forward progress on Pitts and no mention of Demeco Ryans yet. . . .
I found this following quotation slightly alarming
The Texans don’t have as many needs this offseason as they have in the past. Their philosophy is to build through the draft and fill in with free agents. Expect them to sign more free agents after the draft than before.
?????
Have they not been faithfully reading Battle Red Blog ? Do they not see the gaping holes that we have cited?
*sigh*
I don't know who the author is for the Yahoo Texans Team report and the alleged "inside slant" but should I be worried that they are reported to not have as many needs? or is the operative term here "not as many" ?

BRF
Tell me who you think they should have signed.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

=) as a total n00b to football
I wish they had signed LT for running back. He was a classy guy who I wanted to root for. Now the Jets have signed him so I have to root against him. I know Battle Red Blog had some good posts explaining why we should not take LT and so it came to pass.
I wish we had gotten Bodden too. He was a definite upgrade over Dunta. But I’m not really good at doing analysis on my own yet. I currently still rely on the rest of Battle Red Blog to tell me who’s talented.
And I don’t understand why we haven’t heard about Demeco Ryans yet. We should have bagged Ryans earlier than this.

So
You would vote that Smithiak is unplugged.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

haha yep exactly
I hope to God that the Jets don’t take Pitts out from under us and then come back to crush us.

And
You think the “gaping holes” are RB and CB.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
=) I think those are 2 of them but . . .
I have read and agreed with other battle red blog posters who have cited needs at positions like ….
Center? and/or Nose Tackle?
We’re really starting to push the envelope of positions in my football vocabulary here. I’d really need to go do more research (re-read battle red blog posts) to give you a better list. I had mostly wanted to point y’all to the yahoo sports article because it looked like good info.
I hope we find someone for the offensive line to help the running backs push through or SOMETHING but at this very moment in time I don’t know the name of that position.
=) I come here to learn more.

Hmmm...
You know it’s funny, I’ve just been kinda’ doing what BRF says he does and following along, reading what all the BRBers say about who and what we need, and not really being that passionate about it, but now that you mention it…
“Gaping Holes” – I don’t think we have any anymore.
Cornerback – Well, you can ALWAYS use more cornerbacks, but I wouldn’t consider that a “gaping hole” because we let one of the worst cover guys in the unit go take a silly-money offer from Atlanta. We still have a pretty solid collection of cover guys and can pick up some reasonable talent for a reasonable draft pick this year.
Running Back – mmmm, We need some more depth here and it’d be nice to have a bruiser for short yardage, but with the corps that we have I just think we need a little sumpin-sumpin to round it out.
Offensive Line – I think when everyone heals up on that interior that we are going to be in pretty good shape. Some more depth (again) would be nice, but no “gaping hole” there… It may be verging on gaping with Ragdoll at Center so I’ll hedge just a bit there.
Nose Tackle – I guess that if I had to pick one that the middle of our defensive line (still) is the place that I think that we need some more beef. I think that would be about as close to a “gaping hole” as I can see.
For what it’s worth…
Ryans is a RFA so they didnt spend a whole lot of money by tendering him, LT is washed up, bodden most likely just used us to get what he wanted for NE
living the Texas dream
yeah I'm wondering if that's a strategy for players
Like if it makes me nervous that Pitts might come roaring back from his injury and he’s been talking to rival NY Jets .. then maybe he’s doing that to make us nervous? Which is the same thing Joe25 suggests Bodden did to us? Go talk to a rival to make the blood boil at the thought of our own weapons being used against us?
I just hope that the right players get the right deals.

since when are the Jets a rival?

yeah kind of .
I forgot that the jets aren’t in our division just in the afc .. my bad.
but nevertheless they stomped on us once .. then coasted into the playoffs on the backs of teams that were “resting” their starters.
so even if they’re not rivals in the sense of A&M vs UT etc .. the Jets are still evil.

"rivals in the sense of OU vs UT"
/fixed
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
Why would NYJ want Pitts?
They are loaded in the O-line.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
They Aren't Going To Overpay For Talent
At least not on a grand scale.
And there are definitely fewer holes now than when Kubiak and Smith arrived. There aren’t any gaping holes in the starting line-up, but there are certainly guys who are below average.
you should probably define ‘gaping holes’, because I dont see alot of them.

I see two
NT
LG – and that’s an Aurora Snow sized gaper right there (unless that’s where Smith steps in)
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

That's just gross to think about....
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
Oddly enough...PFF has named Ragdoll to the All-AFC South Team as best center...
If people could look past the highlight-reel plays he yielded to Kris Jenkins, they’d see Myers was the best part of the Texans’ line and a very good run blocker
He’s our best lineman…really?
I want to know who said
If people could look past the highlight-reel plays he yielded to Kris Jenkins, they’d see Myers was the best part of the Texans’ line and a very good run blocker. So i can hit them dead in the face.
If people could just look past...
…the mental breakdown, the quitting on his team, the low test scores, the crappy quarterback rating, the prima donna attitude and the picture dancing semi-naked in a room full of men, they’d see that VY is a great quarterback…

Thats right
Cause VY just wins games.
