Restricted Free Agent Tender (Loving Care) Open Thread
Lots of tenders happening today, and I thought I'd start an open thread to post the haps.
(And so I can count this as a post and Tim doesn't take away my key to the executive bathroom.)
Biggest surprise I've seen so far is the 'Skins slapping a Round 1 tender on Carlos Rogers. Panthers placed a 2nd on Richard Marshall.
List the action below!

First round tender to Brandon Marshall
First and third for Elvis Dumervil and a First round for Kyle Orton.
http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/03/03/broncos-offer-first-round-tender-to-marshall/
I would give up a 1st and a 3rd for dumervil any day. That is a great value for a young proven guy!

That’s a lot to pay for a position that we are pretty well set at.

Is it just me
Or is Kyle Orton like the Matt Saracen of the NFL?
Quite possible
My wife’s cousin actually had a few classes with him at Purdue, including as a lab partner in 1 course. She didn’t really follow football, so she was caught off-guard when classmates were asking what it was like to be a lab partner with him. They were then kind enough to explain who he was.
Anyway, from what I’ve heard, she said he is a very nice guy who is extremely “normal” off the field. Of course, this was in college….who knows now that he’s making bank.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?

Dan
Needs more crazy. Let him draft Jacoby Ford at 4, and then we’ll talk.
Also
any guess on why the Panthers placed only a second on Marshall? I thought he is pretty good, so is this because they don’t think so or they need draft picks that badly?
by theaxeeffect4311 on Mar 3, 2010 4:43 PM CST reply actions
They prolly would rather have the second round pick
Considering they traded their first already this year.

Titans tendered LB Stephen Tulloch the 1st-round tender; RB LenDale White and DT Kevin Vickerson were tendered at 2nd-round level.

You sure about that?
Considering how badly some people want us to drop a 1st or 2nd round pick on a RB?
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
Go get Marshal!
I say get Marshal for a 2 rounder.. he’s still young (25) and played very well last season and is established in the league.. more than a rookie would be!
Die hard Texan fan from the heart of Denmark!
well about rogers...
I think it was an original pick tender which happens to be a 1st round one since he got picked in the first round…i think its a pretty low tender

Where are my Texans tenders?
Slap OD with a 1st. Cincinnati would have to be interested.
OD > Gresham.
who are the guys that are tender eligible on our team/
anyone given any yet?
by EveryHoustonTeamRox! on Mar 3, 2010 4:54 PM CST reply actions
raiders
Adam_Schefter:
Raiders put original round tender on LB Kirk Morrison. Raiders will have chance to match any offer sheet he signs – or get back 3rd rd pk
that’s cheap for Morrison i think..
Die hard Texan fan from the heart of Denmark!
That is cheap for Morrison.
But he’s a MLB. If we pick him up, that means contract negotiations between Smithiak and Meco didn’t go too well.
busing not tendered
The Texans have opted against tendering S John Busing, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Busing made numerous spot starts last year, but was never going to excel in coverage at over 220 pounds with 4.6 wheels on hot coals. Houston may bring him back as a gunner, but Busing, ideally, will not see time on defense.

I like how the Card fans just blame our o line.
Carr took those sacks because he was god awful, many times he just ran out of bounds behind the line instead of throwing it away.

Here's hoping...
That the delay in announcing RFA tenders for OD and 59 mean they’re doing everything they can to lock them up long term.
Not at all realistic considering the CBA situation – but sometimes – just sometimes – I like to think positively about things.

I think
It’ll be ugly with them next year. Especially OD.
What time is the actual deadline?
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
TexansDC said Friday earlier so I'll just blindly go with that.

Well
As expected, middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans and tight end Owen Daniels were tendered the maximum. That means if they receive qualifying offers and the Texans didn’t match, they would get first- and third-round draft choices.
Strong safety Bernard Pollard was tendered at a first-round pick.
Offensive tackle Rashad Butler and running back Ryan Moats were tendered with a right of first refusal and their original draft pick. Butler (Carolina) and Moats (Philadelphia) were third-round picks.
by AllenOU on Mar 3, 2010 6:12 PM CST via mobile reply actions
White and Bulman
got a right of first refusal on them, but no compensation if they were signed elsewhere. Busing got nothing.
Can’t say none of this is unexpected, but I do wish OD was only tendered a 1st rounder. I feel like a team may have made a move for him.
Reading Cincy Jungle
The head guy over there is still kinda interested in OD even at a 1st and 3rd. Interesting…wonder how their front office feels.
To me thats a sign they still hope to lock him up long term.
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
Same tender last year. No contract.
Gear up for the worse.
I don’t think we’ll get a long term deal done with OD.
I'm aware
But if they didn’t think they could get something done, I would think they would have only put a 1st on him and hoped someone bit.

Keep them
So the only way we can lose Ryans, Owens, and Pollard is if another team offers them and we don’t match them, is this correct?
We did fine without OD last year, but if we lost Demeco and Pollard then looks like we would be back to square one on defense. When is Mario’s contract up?
I wouldn't be happy about it
But squar one would include a ton of draft picks.
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
We did fine without OD
You mean fine as in we lost four in a row and killed our season and played some patsies to finish 9-7
OD is critical, and next year is what I worry about
by AllenOU on Mar 3, 2010 7:47 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
As far as DeMeco goes..
if we got a 1st and 3rd for him…potentially he could be replaced by McClain or Spikes. I love DeMeco but losing him doesn’t cripple us per se.
OD….replaceable. Look at how Joel finished the season…if he averages what he did against Miami and New England he has a season of: 80 catches, 1168 yards, and 8 TDs.
Besides, getting a 1st and 3rd for a TE would be quite a steal.
Four in a row
I think that could be contributed to much more than OD not being in. I’d say that was the Texans just blowing those games
I must say this is a valid point
But the loss of OD really REALLY changed up our O.
Maybe with him shankopotomous doesn’t get the chance to miss those kicks
by AllenOU on Mar 3, 2010 9:38 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
Not to defend Shanky
But he only missed FGs in 2 of those games (the 1st Indy and the Tennessee game). We can’t really blame him for Indy 2 or Jacksonville 2.
All 3 were between 40-49 yards, so we weren’t even in the red zone then. Could OD have gotten us closer? Who is to say without reviewing the tape…but that 4 game streak wasn’t totally on Kris Brown shanks.
For detail
The 2nd Jacksonville game…we know it was Schaub going briefly down and The Golden Armed Shovel Pass.
That 2nd Indy game….we matched them on 1st downs, did better on 3rd downs, had the same amount of sacks allowed and INTs thrown (although one of ours was picked 6ed)….outgained them on yards….but we fumbled 1 time and had 10 penalties. We hurt ourselves left and right.
2nd Tennessee game….we let Schaub get knocked around (4 sacks) and Brown missed 2 49-yard FGs that would’ve tied then won the game.
1st Indy game……same deal as the 2nd, had a costly fumble (remember?), had 13 penalties, and missed a 42 yarder to tie it.
Something tells me we won't lose all of them
what collection of teams would be stupid enough to give us 3 extra first round & 2 extra third round picks in this draft?
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.
by The Night Owl on Mar 3, 2010 9:09 PM CST up reply actions
it would almost
be worth it.
Pollard and Meco are close, and I guess I could be convinced, but right now I’ll take Meco definitely over the picks.
But imagine us will all those picks.
Dunta's weightspeed was too low
Like I said, nobody would be stupid enough to give us that many high picks
We would be able to fill almost all of our needs in the first round, trade up into the second & grab some more. No one would want one team grabbing that many high draft picks, except for us.
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

I don't care what anyone else says, bfd....
This is your best entry in a long time…a real long time!
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
Wow. You haven't taken a shot at BFD in a long time!
I should rec’d this comment.
But i’ll probably get BANNED!
I'm just kidding!
no shot….bfd is a big boy and can handle sarcasm…
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
I think the texans need to go conservative on Defense.
Don’t lose Demeco or Pollard. Either of those changes the defensive landscape significantly.
I disagree with TexansDC assertion that losing Demeco doesn’t cripple us.
I think it would hurt the defense tremendously. Who is going to call the defense? Cushing? No. Diles or Adibi? Nope.
We need to keep Pollard and Demeco, period.

John Busing was the only RFA not tendered and as a result he will become an unrestricted free agent at 11:01 pm CST Thursday.
YESSSSS!!! THANK YOU DURGA!
So that answers the Tender deadline time
11:00 PM, Central time. Tonight.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
I could be wrong
but I think the tender deadline was last night at midnight eastern, and FA begins tonight at midnight eastern.
But its all moo now. Just sayin we can’t tender anyone today.
Dunta's weightspeed was too low
Rob Sims
The Seahawks put an original round tender on him, 4th. I would give them a 4th for a 26 year old gaurd that is familiar with the zone blocking scheme and has starting exerience in the league.
Talk about him
I don’t know much about Sims.
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

Jeebus
PFF has him #8 for guards. For comparison, White is 41, Brisiel 44, Caldwell 46, and Studdard 71.
I’d give up a 4th for him.

Im more than interested.
It’s only a 4th. What do you think the texans will use the 4th for. Another project safety?
Now if we were gonna use our 4th to draft a TE, I wouldn’t be so much for picking Sims up.

I checked mocks...
most have us taking a guard there (including me who had Mitch Petrus).
I’m now on-board with this.
That would seriously
maximize the value of our available draft picks.
Can Rick Smith pull a Morey-like deal for this?
I hope so.
Does that mean that Caldwell could potentially move back to OC?
by theaxeeffect4311 on Mar 4, 2010 2:28 PM CST up reply actions
Although...
if Briesel is back….with Sims there….maybe, maybe it could.
Brown – Sims – Caldwell – Brisel – Winston > Brown – Studdard – Myers – Caldwell – Winston
Agreed
I for one, am getting dog-tired of hearing John McClain on 610 singing that same old song and dance that the Texans are happy with Studdard being their starter at LG. The Texans must be giving him free tickets to their training table buffet during OTAs or sumphin….
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

He has been a 2 year starter, but he had a pectoral tear that cost him a year. They seem to think he is an above average gaurd. Right now I would settle for an average nfl gaurd on this team.

Good find man.
Im definitely down for picking up this guy.
I really really REALLY hope that Smithiak reads BRB.
except late April last year
when we were SCREAMING not to draft Brian Cushing.
He probably started reading just after that.
