Agree, graded it an A
He’s still at the top of my list for guys who have a realistic(ish) shot at falling to us.

Williams is the ideal pick...
what he could do for the defense would be better value than just about any other pick.
The 2nd would pick should then go CB (Brandon Ghee, Kareem Jackson, Dominque Franks) or FS Morgan Burnett if those CBs weren’t around. A Williams-Ghee combo would vastly improve the defense.
I have to agree, with all prior pts...
I pick Dan Williams @ 20 every time
I just see there not being any extremely talented guys except Dan. plus I think Okoye with a true NT will blow up this year!!
It blows my mind that Amobi is 22 years old...
he’s as old as these guys coming out. Picking Williams is like a double-pick cause the real Amobi Okoye may finally show up.
That is how I feel
he has more NFL experience than the other guys his age. and you give him the chance to use his natural/learned abilities, he will be as beastly as he was at Lousiville… but that is my opinion
WOW HUGE SHOCKER
Way to go against the grain :-p. That said, I like.

I'm just glad BFD did us proud
so many of those picks are questionable. But maybe I just don’t know their teams enough. But seeing Mays at 6, Pouncey at 11, and Wilson at 16, would be going against the grain I guess.

Mays and Wilson are questionable
Pouncey is more understandable when you consider that Denver has 1 center on the roster and he’s never been more than a journeyman practice squader. They’re desperate for some centers.
Mays at 6 is questionable
Mostly to me because he will most likely be available at 14 when they have another first round pick.

It really does make sense to grab Spiller early and wait for Mays
because there is no guarantee that Spiller will not be grabbed earlier.

its been said that frank bush
wants a pass rushing UT so NT is probably not on the radar. brian price is more likely (sigh)
living the Texas dream
I hope that's bunk.

I think so
Yahoo put a new team report up with this little bit:
Ideally, they’d like to find a tackle like Frank Okam. He’s 6-5, 330, but he hasn’t been able to produce well enough to play much even though the coaches have given him every opportunity in his first two seasons.

I think considering
anybody that could challenge this pick ( E. Thomas, J. Haden, K. Wilson, C.J. Spiller (maybe), M. Iupati (maybe), T. Mays (huge maybe)) is off the board it kind of made it an obvious pick.
I say obvious because we kind of picked according to what we want to see not really what the Texans will do, cause with the words that come from our “insider” (tomorrow yesterday last week on April 49th we will select Clay Cushing!) it’s never an obvious thing.
The owner has said they wanna improve the interior defensive line
There’s the Yahoo quote right above…it’s not a stretch to say Williams.
Ya I didn't mean it like it was totally out of the blue to pick Williams
rather that the way this mock went made it easy for us to pick him and it look like good value
I mean I guess B. Price was available but like you said before, the Yahoo quote is right above haha
Not even we could screw this one up
With current knowledge, of course.
I’d also be happy with Price, I think. He doesn’t have the weight, but he was 2nd in bench reps. That’s quite a bit of strength.
For the record, this was a unanimous choice by all of us.

False
It wasn’t unanimous.
Scott wanted Tim Tebow to be the selection.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I say Raiders if they don't trade for McNabb
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

I don't think the draft will play out this way...
so I am not too worried about the selection. I am hoping for a CB/S or dangling a RB to trade down and gather more picks. This year’s first round pick by the Texans will be a statement selection. That statement will either be a sexy pick or trading down to plug holes to solidify our roster…

Quotations that I loved
Since the beginning of time, man has yearned to have a defensive tackle who wasn’t an embarrassment. No, wait… I mean the Texans have yearned for that.
hahaha! I used to have English teachers that used to use that in teaching us 5 paragraph essays. Good one ;-).
Some of you might be saying, “Hey, the Texans’ run game last year was a joke! You guys need a running back.” This is half right, but the basic assumptions are incorrect. Our run game was horrible because we trotted out two of the worst starting guards in football last year, and our run game play-calling was dark humor. We believe we can address the run game in later rounds, and with Iupati and Pouncey already off the board, the talent gap at NT is simply greater. Ryan Mathews might be a good pick here, but not even the love child of Adrian Peterson and Barry Sanders would’ve done much behind the play of our offensive line last year.
beautiful! well said =)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your explanation of the pick. It pretty much encapsulates the humor and analysis that I love about Battle Red Blog.
heh, sorry re-read what I wrote
they used the “since the beginning of time” bit . not the “yearned to have a defensive tackle who wasn’t an embarrassment” bit.

Thanks
The line was actually a “tribute,” of sorts, to Rivers. We had been talking about writing styles and components recently, and it made me think of the things you NEVER do. That was one of them. HA!

great write-up bfd..
and that pick seems like the logical choice for smithiak to make… i’ve said it before… it all starts with the linemen..
Run-stuffing DT is our #1 need
I don’t know the specific stats, but just from watching Texans games last season it seemed like our #1 weakness was runs straight up the middle. We couldn’t stop anything. Bennett and Quin look like decent CBs if they could get a little more consistent, and a massive upgrade to the front seven could mask a lot of those problems. We could get a CB like Perrish Cox, Kareem Jackson or Brandon Ghee in round 2, and it wouldn’t be a big step down from Kyle Wilson. Likewise at safety a player like Nate Allen or Chad Jones could be available at round 2. Dan Williams is WAY better than any DT we could get in round 2 and DT is our #1 need. In terms of need, value and immediate impact Dan Williams would be a no-brainer pick if he’s still available.
BOOOOOOOO!!!! WHERE IS THE TIM TEBOW PICK?!?!?!??!?
I mean the guy “just wins” and isn’t that what its all about?
J/K. I loved the pick. Raises a Shiner Kosmos Reserve Here’s to hoping this mock draft is the closest thing to reality in less than a month.
