Best of luck in Atlanta, Dunta. Very interested to see what kind of money the Falcons ponied up to make this happen. Depending on the guaranteed dollars, Atlanta fans could come to rue the day this deal was signed. And that day could come awfully quickly.

I'm pretty excited

I don’t think he is anything more than an average CB

I bet it was crazy like 6/36 with 22 mil gtd

Care of PK

Other possibilities for Houston: Washington corner Carlos Rogers is tendered at a first but we’ve heard he could likely be had for a fourth or even a fifth; Carolina corner Richard Marshall is tendered at a second and could be worth a third or fourth; Seattle guard Rob Sims is tendered as a fourth-rounder and the Seahawks would liked to have gone higher. A team that needs interior help could consider making an offer?

Interesting

I going to miss saying:

Fuck Dunta.

Seriously though – it has been an amazing transformation from fan favorite to most hated. May all his money go to DeMeco, where it belongs..

Has anyone said this yet???

If being in a Contract-year wasn’t enough to entice Dunta to practice hard and play well this year (ala fat-Albert), then just what the fuck is his motivation if he has a fat 6-year contract under him?

If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?

by Shake on Mar 5, 2010 5:42 PM CST reply actions

I think Dunta might have done the opposite

I think he figured he could get a decent contract on rep, and didn’t want to risk injuring himself.

That was operating on 1 hell of an assumption

by Shake on Mar 5, 2010 6:04 PM CST up reply actions

I've never heard anyone accuse Dunta of being lazy.

I think the main problem is the lingering effects of his injury. Last year, he seemed to have an inability to accelerate with the receiver. Consequently, he began to grab WRs and draw penalties.

by kozanack on Mar 6, 2010 9:27 AM CST up reply actions

Exactly

Normally it takes 2 years to fully recover from an injury like he suffered. Acceleration is the last thing to come back because it is a combination of being healthy and having speed so you have to work acceleration back up once you get your speed back.

I will not be surprised if Dunta has a good season because he will be healthier and in better shape from the beginning.

True

I dont think anyone has ever had that injury though. Typically it takes 2 years to fully recover athletically from major injury like an ACL tear, achilles tear, broken tibia, etc. Since Dunta’s injury was so rare and horrific we really have no idea how long it will take him or if he even will fully recover.

They would dominate. Houston just has to compete against Indy twice a year which IMO helps.

Could conceivably be in NFC West considering geographic position and that would just be unfair. Schaub for MVP!

Rick Smith will look even smarter when...

He takes the average of Brackett and Dansby’s deals and presents them to DeMeco.

As much as we all don’t like Dunta, I’ll give him credit. He turned down $23 million guaranteed and has earned $35.457 million since. The man gambled and, somehow, found someone to give him an insane amount of money.

by TexansDC on Mar 6, 2010 10:43 AM CST up reply actions

All I can say is that I trust our GM

I don’t like the deal, I don’t like his numbers over the past two years or his attitude. Yet the team went hard for him and was his only suitor, so there must be something they see there. He may very well poop all over himself once he gets on the field, but until then I need to believe.

After that, Daddy may need a whiskey.

ya I mean

if you wanna give someone credit for looking after himself first and caring more about money than anything else, sure. Im a fan of the entire organization and Dunta’s actions have been nothing but childish from the aspect of the team.

As far as the Ryans deal, I dont think we will see it for a couple months. Smith has never been one to rush things in the offseason. I will be a little upset if he doesnt get it done before the season starts though.

Doesn't deserve it.

DeMeco’s a great leader and a steady contributer, but what does he do outside of 110-130 tackles a season?

Dansby provides sacks, INTs, FFumbles, and PDs.

by TexansDC on Mar 6, 2010 3:13 PM CST up reply actions

And by doesn't deserve...

I mean, he shouldn’t be paid as the top LB in the league.

I love DeMeco and maybe he does what Bush asks of him (do more coverage than blitzing), but that’s not enough for me to say he deserves more than what Dansby got (who historically provides more sacks, INTs and went to a man who loves LBs [Parcells]).

It's A Gamble

Before his injury, he was probably a top-10 CB who also played the run game very well. He seems to have lost a step after his injury. Before his holdout last year he was a fan favorite.

He held out of training camp, scoffed at the compensation offered, and made a public spectacle of it. Meanwhile, the quality of his play declined, and the pass interference penalties mounted. The result is that he alienated the fans.

Meanwhile, maybe in a different style of defense he can be a success. I think he’s learned something about PR.

Now that's funny
I don’t know much about this guy, so I won’t throw my opinion of him out there. But look at the last two years of big time FAs. 2008, Michael Turner, 2009, Tony Gonzales. So far TD and MS have been 2/2. I have no doubt they made the correct move here.

The guy wanted out of Houston, so obviously he wasn’t playing his hardest. Put him in a positive atmosphere, with good coaches, and I think he will turn it all around and have a good year.

With the resigning of Brian Williams, this let’s the team develop Owens more, without all the pressure. Grimes will be number 3, and the other guys will have to battle it out for the rest.

After Marques Colston and Devery Henderson abuse him, we’ll see if they still believe the positive atmosphere of Atlanta will turn him around.

I also love how they're calling us out as being bitter over there

Apparently Thomas Dimitroff is infallible because he signed Michael Turner and traded a 2nd rounder for 34 year old Tony Gonzalez. Not to say that either of those are horrible moves, but he isn’t exactly making lemonade out of piss…

we didn’t want him, apparently for any amount of money, so any success he has in 2010 won’t give me heartburn.

They’re usually a pretty intelligent group over there. Most of them are just willing to listen to the so called “NFL Experts” at ESPN who keep saying he is a “shutdown corner” over “bitter” Texans fans who watched him week in and week out.

Kind of the same thing Patriots fans went through with Eagles fans after Asante Samuel jumped ship.

by Mike Kerns on Mar 6, 2010 1:57 PM CST up reply actions

I like how the quote mike K used...

that he obviously highlighted for a reason but i have some critiques….

Positive atmosphere??? Honestly the players on the team are all positive… I mean we have some of the classiest players in the league IMO. And the players adore the coaches, why else would they have gone out the last 4 games of the season when it looked like all hope was lost and kick ass?
good Coaches???? Ok I will admit it, Kubes frustrates me with his clock management and inability to throw the red flag at the right moments, but all in all he has done a hell of a job in Houston, and the players love him…
And I saved this for last on purpose, “The guy wanted out of Houston.” Hey if that is the truth, Doont-uh (which I am pretty sure is properly pronounced like Dante) he put on a hell of an act with his I want to stay in Houston bit.

Hey I dont blame Doont-uh for taking the big big paycheck and making more in a year than i will probably see in the next 10+, more power to him. Falcon’s fans dont come crying to us because our shoulders don’t need your tears…

Oh yeah and remember that awesome pick cunta had….. oh wait… The one he had a chance at bounced off his fucking shoulder pads lol!

They better score a TON of points as they will give up 27 a game now. At least he is pretty good against the run. That’s the only hope I can give them…
