Adam Schefter: Dunta Robinson Signs Six-Year Deal With Atlanta
Best of luck in Atlanta, Dunta. Very interested to see what kind of money the Falcons ponied up to make this happen. Depending on the guaranteed dollars, Atlanta fans could come to rue the day this deal was signed. And that day could come awfully quickly.

6 years?
It had to be pricey.
Either way…
HE IS FINALLY GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REJOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Toast the flavor of NFC South?
I bet Steve Smith is licking his chops right now

I know brees is licking his chops
And Jake delhomme too. Oh wait….
by AllenOU on Mar 5, 2010 5:04 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
Too bad...
Dunta might have actually gotten a pick this decade if Delhomme were still in the division.
I'm pretty excited
I don’t think he is anything more than an average CB
I bet it was crazy like 6/36 with 22 mil gtd
by AllenOU on Mar 5, 2010 5:03 PM CST via mobile reply actions
Care of PK
Other possibilities for Houston: Washington corner Carlos Rogers is tendered at a first but we’ve heard he could likely be had for a fourth or even a fifth; Carolina corner Richard Marshall is tendered at a second and could be worth a third or fourth; Seattle guard Rob Sims is tendered as a fourth-rounder and the Seahawks would liked to have gone higher. A team that needs interior help could consider making an offer?
Interesting

I going to miss saying:
Fuck Dunta.
Seriously though – it has been an amazing transformation from fan favorite to most hated. May all his money go to DeMeco, where it belongs..
Don't worry,
I’m sure we’ll always find a reason to say it.

Has anyone said this yet???
If being in a Contract-year wasn’t enough to entice Dunta to practice hard and play well this year (ala fat-Albert), then just what the fuck is his motivation if he has a fat 6-year contract under him?
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
I think Dunta might have done the opposite
I think he figured he could get a decent contract on rep, and didn’t want to risk injuring himself.
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
That was operating on 1 hell of an assumption
And now I’m not sure if I am impressed or disgusted that this play worked for him.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
I've never heard anyone accuse Dunta of being lazy.
I think the main problem is the lingering effects of his injury. Last year, he seemed to have an inability to accelerate with the receiver. Consequently, he began to grab WRs and draw penalties.
Exactly
Normally it takes 2 years to fully recover from an injury like he suffered. Acceleration is the last thing to come back because it is a combination of being healthy and having speed so you have to work acceleration back up once you get your speed back.
I will not be surprised if Dunta has a good season because he will be healthier and in better shape from the beginning.

Perspective
I don’t think ANYBODY has recovered from that type of injury.
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

True
I dont think anyone has ever had that injury though. Typically it takes 2 years to fully recover athletically from major injury like an ACL tear, achilles tear, broken tibia, etc. Since Dunta’s injury was so rare and horrific we really have no idea how long it will take him or if he even will fully recover.

Its like all the Atlanta fans forgot Bodden exists. Jesus will we have to give Bodden a 6 year deal to get him here now?

I like KW but not sure we should overpay
How about 4 years. 16 mil. With 10 in the first two years
by AllenOU on Mar 5, 2010 6:21 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
I would say even less than that.
I don’t think it’s hard to put up numbers next to Andre, and while I like what he gives us, I think his first contract with us was about fair for both sides.
I think this is kind of an overreaction.

bout to find out
According to Pancakes they agreed on a deal:

This is fantastic news
If we were allright about the 4 mil a year with about 35-40% guaranteed.
Side note…
Poor ignorant falcon fans. They think they got the black tebow at CB or something. One guy think he is a TOP 5 corner. Ouch

even with Dunta on our team
we would dominate that division
Dunta's weightspeed was too low
Them saints are terrible eh?

Saints won't make the playoffs next year
Remember I said this
of course dunta could single handedly make this prediction wrong
by AllenOU on Mar 5, 2010 7:53 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
If the Texans were in any other division
They would dominate. Houston just has to compete against Indy twice a year which IMO helps.
Could conceivably be in NFC West considering geographic position and that would just be unfair. Schaub for MVP!

Can you imagine?
What we could do in the NFC West?
They're hoping the total deal is worth less than $25 million for those 6 years.
I can’t wait to see how much they overpaid or how much Cunta didn’t get.
KW
I heard 5 yrs for 21 mill. If this is correct I like it
kudos to texans dc for being on the money!!

EARLY WORD IS...
Dunta’s getting $27 million guaranteed.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
My excitement stems from...
A) Seeing someone fooled by Dunta.
B) A big deal which can help compensatory draft picks
Wow
You think Smith is happy about Dunta? All signs point to yes.
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.
http://www.battleredblog.com
I think he'll be happier when Falcon fans start uttering...
“Fuck Dunta.” This will probably happen after Drew Brees and Marques Colston shred him.
$27 million guaranteed….I can’t wait to see what the total number is. Has to be at least $40…maybe even $50 or 55…
I said
6 for 42 with 22 gtd
27 is insane. Hope to know when I wake up at noon 2mrw…

Maybe we should stay out of free agency.
Fuck!

$27 is stupid money spent...
Again I thought Art Blank had more sense. Fuck Dunta! I give him one more full season and then he’s MIA. Good for Houston! Sorry Atlanta! I did always like the Falcon symbol on the helmet. Thought it was cool.

New Falcons CB Dunta Robinson cashed in with Atlanta. He signed a six-year, $57 million contract that includes $25.5 million in guarantees.
Die hard Texan fan from the heart of Denmark!
lolololololol
I guess this means Im gonna have to pay more for lumber at Home Depot to make up for Cunta taking them to the bank. I guess they can say quite literally they threw everything at him including a new kitchen sink.
Fuck you Dunta, fuck you.

How did they outbid themselves on this?
Holy hell…PFT has been good on their projections, but damn they only had him projected at $9 million guaranteed (which translates to 20-25 million total). That signing comes off as desperate.
He’ll never live up to that.

between the Kevin Walter deal and how much Dunta raped the Falcons for, Rick Smith is looking like a freakin genius.

Rick Smith will look even smarter when...
He takes the average of Brackett and Dansby’s deals and presents them to DeMeco.
As much as we all don’t like Dunta, I’ll give him credit. He turned down $23 million guaranteed and has earned $35.457 million since. The man gambled and, somehow, found someone to give him an insane amount of money.
All I can say is that I trust our GM
I don’t like the deal, I don’t like his numbers over the past two years or his attitude. Yet the team went hard for him and was his only suitor, so there must be something they see there. He may very well poop all over himself once he gets on the field, but until then I need to believe.
After that, Daddy may need a whiskey.

strange
that the Falcons were his only suitor, and he commanded that kinda money.
He was negotiating with what leverage exactly?
Dunta's weightspeed was too low
ya I mean
if you wanna give someone credit for looking after himself first and caring more about money than anything else, sure. Im a fan of the entire organization and Dunta’s actions have been nothing but childish from the aspect of the team.
As far as the Ryans deal, I dont think we will see it for a couple months. Smith has never been one to rush things in the offseason. I will be a little upset if he doesnt get it done before the season starts though.

Brackett is not in DeMeco's class.
I’d go a little over Dansby’s.
- Rivers McCown, From Mom's Basement | Twitter
Doesn't deserve it.
DeMeco’s a great leader and a steady contributer, but what does he do outside of 110-130 tackles a season?
Dansby provides sacks, INTs, FFumbles, and PDs.
And by doesn't deserve...
I mean, he shouldn’t be paid as the top LB in the league.
I love DeMeco and maybe he does what Bush asks of him (do more coverage than blitzing), but that’s not enough for me to say he deserves more than what Dansby got (who historically provides more sacks, INTs and went to a man who loves LBs [Parcells]).
My thoughts exactly
Atlanta outbid themselves! Hahaha!
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
How do you pronounce Dunta, anyway?
Need to prep my “Fuck Dunta” in case you guys are right. Which I’m assuming you are. NO I’M NOT. Fine, yes I am. NO HE’S GONNA BE AWESOME… Oh man.

It's A Gamble
Before his injury, he was probably a top-10 CB who also played the run game very well. He seems to have lost a step after his injury. Before his holdout last year he was a fan favorite.
He held out of training camp, scoffed at the compensation offered, and made a public spectacle of it. Meanwhile, the quality of his play declined, and the pass interference penalties mounted. The result is that he alienated the fans.
Meanwhile, maybe in a different style of defense he can be a success. I think he’s learned something about PR.
I've heard it 2 ways
Don-tay and Dun-tay
Of course, after this season…I also learned that any expletive usually referred to him.
I've alwasy said

Hahahahaha!
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
Now that's funny
I don’t know much about this guy, so I won’t throw my opinion of him out there. But look at the last two years of big time FAs. 2008, Michael Turner, 2009, Tony Gonzales. So far TD and MS have been 2/2. I have no doubt they made the correct move here.
The guy wanted out of Houston, so obviously he wasn’t playing his hardest. Put him in a positive atmosphere, with good coaches, and I think he will turn it all around and have a good year.
With the resigning of Brian Williams, this let’s the team develop Owens more, without all the pressure. Grimes will be number 3, and the other guys will have to battle it out for the rest.

From The Falcoholic, by the way
http://www.thefalcoholic.com/2010/3/5/1358991/report-falcons-sign-dunta-robinson#comments
And it’s been Rec’d green.
They need some reason to believe...
After Marques Colston and Devery Henderson abuse him, we’ll see if they still believe the positive atmosphere of Atlanta will turn him around.
I also love how they're calling us out as being bitter over there
Apparently Thomas Dimitroff is infallible because he signed Michael Turner and traded a 2nd rounder for 34 year old Tony Gonzalez. Not to say that either of those are horrible moves, but he isn’t exactly making lemonade out of piss…
we didn't lose anything in the deal
we didn’t want him, apparently for any amount of money, so any success he has in 2010 won’t give me heartburn.
Right now I hope he’s a miserable failure, but I hope I’m apathetic by the time the draft is over.
Dunta's weightspeed was too low
I tried talking some reason into them
but they have their heads shoved too far into the sand.
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
Which surprises me
They’re usually a pretty intelligent group over there. Most of them are just willing to listen to the so called “NFL Experts” at ESPN who keep saying he is a “shutdown corner” over “bitter” Texans fans who watched him week in and week out.
Kind of the same thing Patriots fans went through with Eagles fans after Asante Samuel jumped ship.
I like how the quote mike K used...
that he obviously highlighted for a reason but i have some critiques….
Positive atmosphere??? Honestly the players on the team are all positive… I mean we have some of the classiest players in the league IMO. And the players adore the coaches, why else would they have gone out the last 4 games of the season when it looked like all hope was lost and kick ass?
good Coaches???? Ok I will admit it, Kubes frustrates me with his clock management and inability to throw the red flag at the right moments, but all in all he has done a hell of a job in Houston, and the players love him…
And I saved this for last on purpose, “The guy wanted out of Houston.” Hey if that is the truth, Doont-uh (which I am pretty sure is properly pronounced like Dante) he put on a hell of an act with his I want to stay in Houston bit.
Hey I dont blame Doont-uh for taking the big big paycheck and making more in a year than i will probably see in the next 10+, more power to him. Falcon’s fans dont come crying to us because our shoulders don’t need your tears…
This is a good one...
From Mike Lombardi of National Football Post:
Someone tell me what tape to watch last year where Texans corner Dunta Robinson(notes) covered anyone. How can he get over $23 million guaranteed? The Falcons needed a corner, and after signing Robinson, they still need a corner….
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

Awesome
Oh yeah let’s not forget. Remember when cunta made an awesome play, a big hit on someone, I think In the colts game. Then he was celebrating and didn’t line up for the next play, and peyton beat him for like 30 yards.
I wish I could buy stock in drew brees lol!
Oh yeah and remember that awesome pick cunta had….. oh wait… The one he had a chance at bounced off his fucking shoulder pads lol!
They better score a TON of points as they will give up 27 a game now. At least he is pretty good against the run. That’s the only hope I can give them…
