Wade Smith

aside from hearing some sportsradiospeak indicating Wade Smith was more or less just a guy, I wonder if that is true….what could he bring to the table?…I think I heard he was versitile, which I think Texan leadership has come to put a premium (based on last year’s draft)…if so, where can he play?

I’ve been hoping we draft a C/G & a G/T early in the draft this year and I’m curious if he would fill one of these spots with enough size, speed strenght & talent to pull one of those swing poisitions off our “needs” list.

Wade Smith

does not bring much to the table. He’s a solid back-up G/C with the ability to step in and play without the offense losing a beat. However, I don’t think he’s that great because for one, if the Chiefs are letting him go, he can’t be that good if their O-line doesn’t need his help.

Back up isn't bad

The team needs solid backups for the interior line.

The Chiefs let Pollard go

so always remember they might not be able to use players correctly

I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

DB

i jokingly asked him on twitter (@76ondalef) if he was scared, and if he was, he shouldn’t be, and he gave a very interview-appropriate answer:

“na not worried at all. He’s a heck of a player and they have a good defense. At my position tho u expect nothing but the best”

i’m excited. this could be a big year for him..

Rex Hadnot

C/G, played in Cleveland.

Any of you know him? – could he be an upgrade?

by Shake on Mar 8, 2010 1:27 PM CST up reply actions

Rex Hadnot is nice (17th at PFF and a native Texan), but Rob Sims is better (8th).

And now, some people will comment on how the Texans should definitely sign Sims and send a 4th to Seattle. Although Hadnot is not too shabby of a plan either. I couldn’t complain at either guy…especially if it puts Studdard on the bench.

by TexansDC on Mar 8, 2010 1:35 PM CST up reply actions

IIRC, we brought in Rex Hadnot for a free agency visit last year, and the FO let him leave without offering him a contract.

Yup

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Rams sign Fred Robbins - DT

He’s 32. Bringing him on to mentor Suh or they going for Bradford?

Colts cut Ryan Lilja.. maybe their best lineman last season.. but.. why?

Die hard Texan fan from the heart of Denmark!

by zala on Mar 8, 2010 4:43 PM CST reply actions

Hmm, no idea...

but he is a good guard, decent age….add that to the list of guards worth taking a look at.

by TexansDC on Mar 8, 2010 4:55 PM CST up reply actions

This just in:

Craig Domann, Lilja’s agent, said the release was not necessarily financially-driven. The team paid Lilja a $1.7 million roster bonus he was due, then terminated his contract. Lilja was due to earn a base salary of $3.055 million in 2010.
"They said they want to go bigger, and they let him go,’’ Domann said. "Ryan was disappointed, but I know he’ll land on his feet.’’

Wow.

And The Texans couldn’t match that?

Wow.

by Jordann on Mar 9, 2010 3:14 PM CST up reply actions

I thought the same at 1st

But maybe its the reverse end-around.

Maybe that was our offer, and NE matched it for him. If so, I can’t really blame the fella. If dollars are equal, then I can understand the choice to play in NE.

If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?

A couple million bucks to sweeten the pot?

To plug a hole before the draft? I would’ve done it. But then again, the last time we signed a CB off of the trash pile it didn’t work out to well.

This will all be forgotten once we resign Meco and Pollard.

The money that we didn’t spend are going to their contracts right?

by Jordann on Mar 9, 2010 4:39 PM CST up reply actions

I can't blame him for choosing NE either

Let’s face it, who do you want coaching defense? Frank Bush or Bill Belicheck? The Pats seemed to play him to his strengths, so it makes sense that he’d want to stay in that system.

by theaxeeffect4311 on Mar 10, 2010 12:28 AM CST up reply actions

Fine by me then.

Because his strength his zone coverage, and that’s not a strength that I want to play to.

by Nashmeister on Mar 10, 2010 3:26 PM CST up reply actions

Maybe they just didn't want him.

It’s not my money, so I would have tried to bring him in because I’m afraid of a sophomore slump for Quin. But Bodden is most certainly not, as he has sometimes been referred to as, a “shutdown corner”. Nor is he considerably more talented than Jacques Reeves as far as I’m concerned. Lance Z wrote a nice column a day or two ago with a scouting report on him.

I really don’t think this is the kind of thing that will have us kicking ourselves for missing out on him a year or two from now. However, if that money goes completely unspent, I’ll be disappointed.

by Nashmeister on Mar 9, 2010 5:05 PM CST up reply actions

The media definitely skews the public's perception of a player.

I cannot stress how much I hate that. Just because they’re not familiar with word “decent”, it doesn’t mean that they should be naming every single young CB out there a “shutdown corner”.

I always viewed Bodden as a decent corner with enough experience to make an impact on any team that needs secondary help. That’s the main reason my I wanted the Texans to sign him. A reliable(mostly) veteran presence that can help our young CBs grow into their roles as starters.

by Jordann on Mar 9, 2010 5:17 PM CST up reply actions

Thomas Jones to Kansas City

Deal: 2 years/$5 million.

I would’ve done that in a heartbeat for a guy like Jones.

by TexansDC on Mar 9, 2010 5:08 PM CST reply actions

He's 31

I thought thats an automatic no no for this fan base

Thomas Jones may be 31

but he looks far from finished.

2 for $5m is not a bad contract.

by TexansDC on Mar 9, 2010 9:41 PM CST up reply actions

No its not

But according to you it would be a waste of money because our offensive line is so dreadful that no one can run behind it. You cant have it both ways DC.

by TexasHoosier on Mar 9, 2010 9:52 PM CST up reply actions

Having him...

saves a pick on a RB to invest on the line.

by TexansDC on Mar 9, 2010 10:08 PM CST up reply actions

Lets see...

we have 8 draft picks and there are only 5 offensive line positions. We can still totally revamp our OL and get a late round RB like Kubes loves to do. Does that sound good to you??

by TexasHoosier on Mar 9, 2010 10:20 PM CST up reply actions

Honestly, we don’t need to do all 5. I’d be happy with OT/OG or OG/OC

Ideally, I’m in favor of trading back in round 1 to grab Maurkice Pouncey and then use a 3rd rounder on Mike Johnson. To me…that would make a world of difference.

by TexansDC on Mar 9, 2010 10:30 PM CST up reply actions

This is retarded.

How can you argue that anybody can run behind our offensive line after watching last season.

by Jordann on Mar 10, 2010 9:03 AM CST up reply actions

You're right

we should just dump the O-line we have now and start fresh

by theaxeeffect4311 on Mar 10, 2010 4:44 PM CST up reply actions

just a thought

I was just thinking why dont we trade our 1st round pick to the rams for there 2nd and oj

by rmac244 on Mar 11, 2010 7:42 AM CST reply actions

This is a shrewd thought...

2 – 1 would be good CB range…and we’d have a FS…..and we could use 2 – 20 on a OL or NT or maybe even Daryl Washington……nice. It’s an interesting move.

by TexansDC on Mar 11, 2010 9:47 AM CST up reply actions

Atogwe is part of the Rams

but they placed the lowest tender on him. So if we really wanted Atogwe, we could just outbid the Rams.

by theaxeeffect4311 on Mar 11, 2010 11:41 AM CST up reply actions

Correct.

ROFR. They’re trying to figure out the value of Atogwe in the open market. They have till June 1st to tender him an offer or the ROFR expires and Atogwe becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent.

I honestly think that the Rams are trying to get a deal done with Atogwe but they don’t wanna pay him big time money because of the injury he sustained last season.

Is a sign and trade possible? Yes. But it’s highly unlikely.
