Living Vicariously Thru Other Blogs' Mock Drafts

I made my ill-fated play for a Mock Draft here on BRB. I tried to innocently toy with the BRB-Blogger egos, but instead likely bruised them instead or tripped over my own...as I don't think many saw any humor in it. I am sorry and hope they can forgive me for my stupid move.

Anyways, onto a different direction. I have checked out a few Mock Drafts on other team's sites. I will share some of them here with you now.

The Cincy Jungle - With the 20th pick, the Texans (Indesignkat) take OT Trent Williams. They made an interesting pick, which I don't particularly disagree with. This is a classic case of a certain player at a position of need falling down to the Texans. Indesignkat snatched Oklahoma OT Trent Williams who is widely considered a top ten pick. However, he picked Trent Williams while Tennessee DT Dan Williams was still on the board and I think that many on this site might object because they see DT as a bigger need than OT. To me it's a coin flip given that choice. In a poll of good pick vs bad pick, bad pick was leading the way.

Stampede Blue - With the 20th pick, the Texans (Aerostar193) take DT Dan Williams. With Joe Haden, Earl Thomas, and Kyle Wilson all gone, Aerostar193 turned to the Texans need at the DT position and unlike Indesignkat of the Cincy Jungle, they selected Dan Williams with Trent Williams still on the board. Other players overlooked include OLB Sean Weatherspoon, OT Anthony Davis, RB Ryan Mathews and  C Maurkice Pouncey.

Music City Miracles - With the 20th pick, the Texans (gramsey102) take RB Ryan Mathews. This draft makes me wonder about home-team blog mock drafts. Are they done just to piss off the other teams fan-bases in their own division? gramsey102 provided an analysis that rightfully talked about the Texans' need in the defensive backfield, but made no mention of deficiencies in the offensive line or defensive line and listed other considerations as being Mike Iupati and Taylor Mays. No mention of DT Dan Williams, or OT Charles Brown who were both available. Oh, BTW, Tim Tebow went two picks later to the Patriots.

Bleeding Green Nation - With the 20th pick, the Texans take....no one knows yet. They just picked 19 as DE Brandon Graham, which is the Atlanta Falcons pick right before the Texans pick. BadCo'09 is on the clock for the Texans at 20. S Earl Thomas, DT Dan Williams, OT Charles Brown, RB Ryan Mathews are all on the board. CB Kyle Wilson and OG Mike Iupati are off the board. EDIT: At 11 AM this morning, BadCo'09 made the Texans' selection; DT Dan Williams. BadCo'09 said that his discussion with members of this blog paid off and made this an easy selection for him.

That's just a few. There are  a couple others to see out there. Behind the Steel Curtain is on pick 12. The Steelers pick 18th so, I will keep my eyes on this one. Super Bowl Champs Canal Street Chronicles (Friar Bob) had the Texans taking CB Devin McCourty over CB Kyle Wilson and with DT Dan Williams going 30th to the Vikes. Friar Bob's analysis is a worthy read.

Thanks Rip....Rec'd

Nice summary. I’ve been wanting to “tour” the other SBN sites to see what the mocks were turning up, but just haven’t had the time. This provides the info and saves me the time….so thanks for that.

And other than thinking we run a 3-4 defense (hopefully just a typo in the post), Friar_Bob over at CSC really seems to have a solid understanding of our Texans. And he used the word “vociferously”.

If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?

meh, I think you lost to inertia. Plus, some of the others haven’t been overly insightful.

Nice post, though. Rec’ed.

what is wrong with the two mocks

that have Trent Williams falling all the way to 20? I just cant see any way that happens.

I can't predict that Trent Williams falling to 20 will happen in the real world...

But, I also can’t predict that something like that won’t happen. It is quite possible. There are 19 teams drafting in front of the Texans and chances are good that if two or three of those teams see something that no one else sees, watch out! All of a sudden you have Trent Williams (figuratively speaking) falling in your lap….then I suspect the Texans FO is flipping a coin in their war room.

I'm picking for the Texan's in our Phinsider Mock....

1st round Pick – Earl Thomas, S
2nd round Pick – Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama

If this post contains no substance, just assume that my answer is Brandon Marshall. Pay the 1st and 3rd, get the proven guy, and don't worry about that position for the next decade.

Thx Fr8Train

Here’s the link for the 1st round of the 2010 Phinsider Community Mock Draft.

2nd round.

This is the first time I realized that Jacksonville doesn’t have a 2nd round pick, the Patriots own it. And, I see Buffalo gets their QB of the future taking Tebow with the 9th pick of the 2nd round, before the Patriots (via Jaguars) anyways.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Apr 12, 2010 11:30 AM CDT up reply actions

Are you trying to say that if they want Tebow they'll have to do it in the first?

because that would be funny. That or they’ll have to trade next year’s second along with their third this season to move back into this second round.

Just wondering who the Dolphins went with?

Also, what’s the probability that they go with a pass rushing OLB in the first? I read that Parcells’ draft history tends to go LB in the first round, so I wonder how Dolphins fans view that.

Link is right above

They went with DE Brandon Graham Michigan, 1st round, evidently trying to replace Joey Porter.

Our fans feel drastically different

on what to do with our pick at 12.

Names we see:
Dez Bryant
Sergio Kindle
Spiller
Dan Williams
Brandon Graham
Earl Thomas

We are all over the board to be honest. Believe it or not, Parcell’s history doesn’t really lend itself to any tendencies. He’s viewed as a Defensive mind, but the truth is he’s taken just as many offensive players as he has defensive players with his first 2 picks. its almost 50/50 exactly.

Fin Fan’s are little confused as to what our Front office is doing. We all want to believe in Parcell’s direction, but we’ve really made some questionable moves over the last couple years…..and a lot of us are wondering exactly what the plan is.

1) We didn’t want character issue guys. Then we sign Incognito.
2) We didn’t have a luxury pick last year, yet we sign Pat White
3) We wasted another 3rd round pick on Patrick Turner who couldn’t get off the
      practice squad.
4) We have a serious need at OLB, and won’t offer any deal to Jason Taylor (a fan
favorite, and one that will work for a major hometown discount). Even as a
      mentor he’s worth signing.
5) They talk about need players that get “chuck yardage”, but don’t make any
moves to get a major need (WR) when Boldin was available cheap, Santonio
available very cheap….. so we are begging for Marshall….God we hope we can
      get Marshall.

So, we’re just lost :)

Im surprised at the variety of picks.

Im glad that other fans are aware of our holes. I wouldve thunk that they would all pick RB.

Keep us updated on this if you have the time Rip.

If Trent Williams fell

I would be pretty pissed if the Texans didn’t take him, regardless of who else was on the board (unless it was someone totally improbably like Suh or McCoy).

by cubic on Apr 14, 2010 12:51 AM CDT reply actions

Fell?

How high do you think he is?

I know the range on him has been 8th (Oakland) to 13 (San Francisco) to 26 (Arizona)…a lot of people even wonder if he is true LT material.

by TexansDC on Apr 14, 2010 1:09 AM CDT up reply actions

He is extremely athletic

Although, his work ethic has been questioned. If Kubes and Co. could motivate him, he would be a great addition to the O-line, especially at 20.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Apr 14, 2010 9:32 AM CDT up reply actions

He can play any position on the O-line as well

I don’t think he gets past SF, but if he does and the Texans grab him, I would be alright with that choice. The FO is then at least adding good linemen to the O-line.

Revenge of the Birds

has us taking Taylor Mays, with both Williams and McCourty still on the board…

Potential reasoning

Perhaps that person has the Raven mentality and really wanted to make a statement to other Ravens fans that you can’t have him…?

by Rip Jersey on Apr 16, 2010 8:44 AM CDT up reply actions

Ha! Thought that was the Ravens....must be in a pre-draft haze....it's the Cards

No other explanation for why they picked Mays.

by Rip Jersey on Apr 16, 2010 8:47 AM CDT up reply actions

They have one...

but it’s not logical. Mays in Houston…just…doesn’t…work.

Sorry I should have put it was the Red Birds blog site.

I would have gone with McCourty way before mays though..

Behind the Steel Curtain

With the 20th pick the Texans select CB Kyle Wilson. Of interest, FS Earl Thomas went 18th to the Steelers. I would rather see Early Thomas fall to the Texans.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Apr 18, 2010 11:36 PM CDT reply actions

So they took Thomas?

I thought there might be more of a demand for OL or DE/DT there. Very interesting.

A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

by bigfatdrunk on Apr 19, 2010 8:57 AM CDT up reply actions

Yes, I was thinking the same

I can go look and see who was gone and who was there on the OL. I think the Steelers, because of their draft position and because of their needs, may impact what happens with the Texans in the first round.

Also, I didn’t realize they needed a FS. But, it appears they are getting old and injured at that position and they do value their Safeties in their style of play, which is a style of play I would like to see the Texans emulate. Yes, they are a 3-4 and the Texans are 4-3, but by style, I mean attitude and aggressiveness, and sometimes play-calling/formation.

The Steelers value the turnover and that is a place that the Texans have been severely lacking. Although, I did see some hope last season. Cushing and Pollard have a way of being in the right place at the right time and following through and making the play. I’m not sure if that is an inherent talent in a player or if it is something that can be taught or accentuated by “style of play” as I am describing it. But, I do know it influences the outcome of games.

So, I am watching the Steelers….

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
