phiily pick is in..
Some people say "If you can't beat them, join them". I say "If you can't beat them, beat them", because they will be expecting you to join them, so you will have the element of surprise.
Seriously
you’ve no idea how happy I am right now about Mathews being gone.
No. Freakin. Idea.

thank you
anyway PHI trades 2 3rds and a 1st to DEN to trade up to this pick….
rumors are that DEN will try and get back in the first…maybe Houston gets some extra picks

Absolutely perfect.
The Chargers running game was every bit as terrible as ours was last year. If Ryan Matthews has a productive year, it’ll be a decent indicator of RB prowess vs. shitty run-blocking. Either way, nice smoke-screen. C’mon, Iupati!
Graham?

by Calvin Paquette on Apr 22, 2010 8:26 PM CDT up reply actions
Technically, Nashmeister is right.
Secondary can make the D-line better, but it is much easier for the D-line to make the secondary better than for the secondary to make the D-line better.
by Tailgate Andy on Apr 22, 2010 8:31 PM CDT up reply actions
Maybe.
However, a left-to-right DT who doesn’t get to the QB all that often ain’t gonna help out our secondary. If they draft Dan Williams, it’ll most likely be because they think he’ll improve the run defense dramatically. That doesn’t stop our secondary from getting picked apart on third downs.
On the other hand, if a QB looks to his go-to receiver and sees him blanketed? Well, he might bring that ball back down and give Mario another half-second to get to him.
Plenty of synergy. Every year people claim that one position is the end-all, and almost every year that position changes.
agree on the left right DT
even the best corners can only cover for so long….and if the TE or WR is open a covered WR doesn’t do much good
"Well, at least our players kept their helmets on, so that showed some intelligence"-Bob McNair
Ugh really. I think dlinemen have an easier transition to the NFL
Wilson is probably better long-term prospect.
Really?
People around here are still defending Okoye after sucking hard for three seasons. Haynesworth floundered around for a few seasons too before he turned into the most dominant DT in the game. If anything, I’d say DT has one of the toughest learning curves in football.

Dan Williams wouldn't have gotten the Texans to the playoffs either.
No rookie is going to be the deciding factor. It’s going to be about growth from within: Mario, Okoye, Duane Brown, etc.

So im guessing we werent even looking to trade back and thus it shouldnt be Jackson

I was more upset about skipping on Dan Williams. But we all knew Smithiak would not go Dan Williams.

im not enthused
but i trust the texans….wilson is horrible against the run,,mathews ran all over his ass, im happy it wasnt him, i think we just got a duante clone
im not pissed
i was just hoping for dan williams or a trade down, and if we passed williams up at 20 he probably wont be worth shit
LOL
The draft board happens just like I would have dreamed, and we blow it on a second round corner with a NT and my second favorite CB on the board. It really couldn’t have happened any other way.
the texans obviously don't think he's a second round corner
"Well, at least our players kept their helmets on, so that showed some intelligence"-Bob McNair
LOL at people getting pissed at the Texans
probably the same people who thought Cushing was a bad pick. Kareem Jackson played on an SEC defense at Alabama. Kyle Wilson played for Boise St. in the WAC.
I’ll take it.

given Smithiak's history, this is unlikely.

Ben Tate in round 2. It’ll happen.

it's a given that we will not have our pick on the radar at all.
"Well, at least our players kept their helmets on, so that showed some intelligence"-Bob McNair
Me, to be honest.
I sort of thought it would be Patrick Robinson, though. Either way, I had a hunch they’d grab a CB that most people had rated further down the board.
Possible that Williams drops into second
It’d be a LOT cheaper to trade up for the first pick from StL.
by Calvin Paquette on Apr 22, 2010 8:46 PM CDT reply actions
RT @JeromeSolomon: Nothing wrong with Kareem Jackson pick for Texans. A scout told me he should be most consistent CB in draft.
"Lord, beer me strength."
Scouts Inc. says...
Scouts Inc. Pros: Excellent at anticipating routes and can keep eyes on quarterback without losing track of receiver. Mid-points high-low routes in zone coverage. Appears comfortable lining up close to the line of scrimmage. Squeezes receivers to the sideline. Aggressive and not afraid to jump up. Plays with a swagger. Fluid hips and can change directions quickly. Quick feet and can stick with receivers coming out of breaks, Plays under control, keeps feet under him and doesn’t waste any motion.
Scouts Inc. Cons: Fails to wrap up but gets ball carrier to ground more times than not. Can get caught trying to make a play on the ball when should wrap receiver up for short gain but rarely. Takes too long to shed blocks.

Honestly, questionable intelligence might have been too strong (though not by much), but he absolutely has more publicized issues with his maturity than most, if not all, of the other 20-24 year olds who were first round picks.

Cons on Dan Williams
Scouts Inc. Cons: Frequently comes out of stance high and lacks ability to counter once engaged with blockers. Closing burst is good but not great. Lacks elite quickness off the snap of the ball. Motor can run hot and cold as endurance appears to be an issue.
Questions with his motor? Frank Okam anyone?
