Absolutely perfect.

The Chargers running game was every bit as terrible as ours was last year. If Ryan Matthews has a productive year, it’ll be a decent indicator of RB prowess vs. shitty run-blocking. Either way, nice smoke-screen. C’mon, Iupati!

Graham?

Right on

Stumpy: It's called the '80s. Ford was president, Nixon was in the White House, and FDR was running this country into the ground. I was bummin' in a hole-in-the-wall town in what is now called "Utah".

Williams

D-line makes secondary better. Secondary doesn’t make D-line better.

by Calvin Paquette on Apr 22, 2010 8:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Technically, Nashmeister is right.

Secondary can make the D-line better, but it is much easier for the D-line to make the secondary better than for the secondary to make the D-line better.

by Tailgate Andy on Apr 22, 2010 8:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe.

However, a left-to-right DT who doesn’t get to the QB all that often ain’t gonna help out our secondary. If they draft Dan Williams, it’ll most likely be because they think he’ll improve the run defense dramatically. That doesn’t stop our secondary from getting picked apart on third downs.

On the other hand, if a QB looks to his go-to receiver and sees him blanketed? Well, he might bring that ball back down and give Mario another half-second to get to him.

Plenty of synergy. Every year people claim that one position is the end-all, and almost every year that position changes.

by Nashmeister on Apr 22, 2010 8:34 PM CDT up reply actions

agree on the left right DT

even the best corners can only cover for so long….and if the TE or WR is open a covered WR doesn’t do much good

Would have preferred trade, Dan Williams, Kyle Wilson to him. He had a 1st/2nd grade on him, not really a big reach.

Scouts Inc. says...
Scouts Inc. Pros: Excellent at anticipating routes and can keep eyes on quarterback without losing track of receiver. Mid-points high-low routes in zone coverage. Appears comfortable lining up close to the line of scrimmage. Squeezes receivers to the sideline. Aggressive and not afraid to jump up. Plays with a swagger. Fluid hips and can change directions quickly. Quick feet and can stick with receivers coming out of breaks, Plays under control, keeps feet under him and doesn’t waste any motion.

Scouts Inc. Cons: Fails to wrap up but gets ball carrier to ground more times than not. Can get caught trying to make a play on the ball when should wrap receiver up for short gain but rarely. Takes too long to shed blocks.

Cons on Dan Williams
Scouts Inc. Cons: Frequently comes out of stance high and lacks ability to counter once engaged with blockers. Closing burst is good but not great. Lacks elite quickness off the snap of the ball. Motor can run hot and cold as endurance appears to be an issue.

Questions with his motor? Frank Okam anyone?
