Earl Mitchell is Your Newest Texan!
Earl Mitchell, DT, Arizona is the pick at 83 for Houston. I don't know much about this guy other than he was projected as a 5th or 6th round pick. Ouch.

Apparently he's quick and got a good burst
Had 12.5 TFL and 6.5 sacks last season.
A bit of a reach, but eh….they again got the DT they wanted.
Smithiak is getting their guys.
"Lord, beer me strength."
I think it's a good pick
He’s a Bill Kollar man. He’s quick and penetrating and an inside pass rusher that we haven’t had so far.

and he was a team captain.. once again. A stand up guy to the Texans.

Kollar
At best, Kollar’s lines have been average. Kollar had never proven an ability to develop undersized DTs. There’s a reason bills fans were ecstatic to see him go.
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

Never heard of him.
And color me pissed off that we still don’t have an interior offensive lineman. But DT (read: DT, not necessarily NT) was a need, and they took a DT. I’ll reserve judgment until I see him on the field. But if he proves to be an upgrade over Shaun Cody, I’ll be pleased with the pick. I do wish somebody like Houston had fallen to us… But eh, you can’t have it all.
I anticipate a big day of OL tomorrow
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
Honestly
I’m ok with our O line right now. Its at least going to be as good as our 2008 line for running which I think is good enough of an improvement.
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
Huh? Did we make some major acquisition I failed to hear about? The O-Line was horrible last season… could see the argument that it was our #1 weakness.
It's better right now...
It could be
D. Brown – M. Brisiel – W. Smith – Caldwell – Winston
Pitts could re-sign…which would be nice…but honestly, getting Brisiel healthy and adding Smith does improve it somewhat. I’d love to see Arkansas OG Mitch Petrus and Texas A&M C Kevin Matthews get drafted.
Studdard can sit his ass on the bench.

Do we go after Myron Rolle at 93?

I think he's there in the 4th for us
But I hope he’s a Texan regardless

I am high one Rolle
I like the guy and am glad he has dropped gives us a chance to snag him tomorrow….not too sad at the draft, i have blind faith in smithiak. I want to see these guys in action b4 i make a final judgement!

Go Texans!
Mark My Words...
Earl Mitchell will have a better career than Lamarr Houston! They are both extremely similar players…I mean almost the exact same player. Both are undersized playmaking defensive tackles. However Michell is with us and Houston is in the graveyard that is the Raiders. Good good pick.
93 pick...
What’s left? OG like Mike Johnson? FS like Robert Johnson?
I want Brandon Ghee though.
"Lord, beer me strength."
Horrible fucking pick
This is the exact type of player who fails at DT. He’s too weak to hold point, and he’s not quick enough to shoot gaps. In other words, he’s a project version of okoye. And if you think okoye is a bust? Wecome to busty paradise, and there’re no boobs to make it better.

Why?
6 1/2 sacks in college, and that’s supposed to be his forte? He’s not as quick as okoye was coming out, either, and we see the results. Unless we drafted him to replace okoye, and we still run zgonina and Cody out there.

two seasons
12.5 sacks as a DT.
He was a TE/FB (seriously) his first two years. Agree he’s a project, but those aren’t bad numbers for a DT.
I started a response
But I’d just be using my material for tomorrow :-)

maybe it really is a conspiracy.
the texans ONLY draft you if you used to play TE.

He's supposed to be able to hold his ground against the run...
And has the physical ability to develop into a solid pass-rusher, but needs to develop some moves.
I’d guess that as the coaches see it, he’s a guy they expect to take over for Shaun Cody next season, then develop into a complete player in another year or two.

Why take
Cam Thomas when you can have Okoye the lesser?
Here we go.

Anyone know what picks we got with that trade with KC?

I think Mayock has a sore throat from going down on...

Shit there goes our guy, Mike Johnson.

Please tell me this is a missprint
A DT that is 6’3" and 215? AJ has more muscle mass at 6’3" and 228! What the fuck?

Actually, i think he's supposed to be listed at 295
according to rivals, at least.

Its a misprint
Im assuming you got that from NFL.com because thats where I saw those numbers. Arizona’s web page for him lists 295.

was wonderin the same thing
glad he’s up near 3 large.
Remember the Cushing, all you haterz.
Dunta's weightspeed was too low
^this
at 300 that is some weightspeed…. I do want to see him in a pro game before i say he is okoye the lesser, but hey at least our two DTs are the same age approx. I have faith also Okoye gets it together. I just want to see double digits in the sack column next to at least two of our Dlinemen…
"Your mother is a hamster and your father smells of elderberries! Now Go away or I shall taunt you a second time!"
Go Texans!
I give them credit for trying to improve the D-line
But I was really hoping for more assmass. As always, I hope this pick is more Cushing than Okam.
I'll eliminate you like I eliminate gluten from my diet.

maybe having another okoye
next to okoye will benefit okoye.
err i confused myself.
But only god knows why these guys don’t ever want to draft a big DT.

Thing is
I can think of reasons to trust the Texans staff on most defensive positions
But when you have Jeff Zgonina around because you can’t do any better, I think it’s free to hate this pick. Not that I necessarily do, although I still think it was a reach.
