NFL Draft Open Thread, Day 3 (MK. II - 5th Round)

It'll be tough to match the fan frustration of the fourth round, but let's see if we can give it a run, eh?  Only one pick this round: 5-13 (144).

Only one pick in the fifth so

I don’t think it can match. Unless we draft another TE

Here

McManis was a productive, three-year starter for Northwestern. He has a good combination of size and strength but lacks elite athleticism for the position. He runs well but lacks great quickness in transition and lateral agility. McManis has solid instincts in zone coverage but can lose leverage when in man schemes. He is limited at times in opening his hips to turn and run deep with top receivers. He isn’t an explosive athlete but shows range once he gets going. He is a willing run-support defender but isn’t physical and misses too often in space. McManis has some tools to build on, with decent return skills, but he lacks talent to contribute much as a rookie.

McManis has a nice blend of size and speed. Understands his responsibilities in zone coverage and does a good job anticipating routes. Closes fast when the ball is in the air and has the body control and hands to make interceptions. Hard worker who gives a spirited effort.
Lacks the top end speed to stick with receivers in man coverage. Is not fluid through the hips and struggles making transitions. Not physical enough in press coverage and likely will get pushed around by bigger receivers at the next level. Does not seek out contact in run support.

by AllenOU on Apr 24, 2010 11:36 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

tall corner with a great 40, Sherrick McManis will get noticed at the combine. McManis started for Northwestern and also did a good job as a return specialist.

he really has a lot of Carr like issues, he doesnt like letting go of the ball, and he doesnt go through his progressions, he is actually pretty bad…

I disagree

I’ve been up here since he was drafted and am continually subjected to Skins games.

He’s never had a decent line to protect him and his receivers have been more or less garbage. I’m not saying he’s a world-beater, but I think he could be a good, solid Rob Johnson-like QB if given the chance.
