Holliday is an explosive return specialist who has the ability to take it all the way virtually every time he touches the ball. He gets a quick jump on the ball as it comes off the kicker’s foot and does a good job of settling under it to make the catch. He has the kind of elusiveness that can make would-be tacklers grab air and knows how to set up his blockers. He does have a tendency to rely on his pure speed alone and needs to learn how to alter his speed and save something in reserve. With his speed and acceleration, he has a chance to be drafted late in spite of his lack of size and severe limitations as a wide receiver.

Maybe Dante Hall

where he becomes a super slot receiver in 4-5 years?

by Tailgate Andy on Apr 24, 2010 2:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Isn't he an NCAA 100-meter champion?

Since speed is roughly STRIDE LENGTH x STRIDE PACE, this guy’s feet must look like a goddamn circular saw going.

Holliday doesnt have stride length

He is so fast that he actually floats and his stride pace are his wings

197. Trindon Holliday, KR/PR, LSU
Houston has its new kick returner. Trindon Holliday will be fun to watch. Nice pick. (Pick Grade: A)

National Football Post: An absolute burner who will instantly be able to come in and help out in the return game

No more Jacoby hold your breath moments, Andre Davis and his big salary is gone……A+ pick in round 6. He’ll actually help the team and add speed.

Love it!

Lil Dude is so fast and can hide behind blockers! It will let Jacoby Jones just focus on being an improved wide receiver. Very nice pick!

by cb3 on Apr 24, 2010 2:04 PM CDT reply actions

Yep, love this pick

Yes, it’s a luxury, but Andre Davis was just bad last year. If we can carry 14 TEs, we can carry somebody who’ll actually make a difference.

Dude makes The Flash look like Reggie Bush (limping along the sidelines). The return game just got interesting.

Okay, I like this pick

But, it doesn’t get Smithiak off the hook for the previous 5 or 6 picks…

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Apr 24, 2010 2:14 PM CDT reply actions

if we don't take a FS here in the 7th

i’m going to be very confused about how the Texans evaluated their current free safeties..?

but 4 our sake hopefully his frail body holds up

by HB23 on Apr 24, 2010 2:53 PM CDT up reply actions

It's a 7th-round pick...

Whatever position they take here has absolutely no bearing on how they’ve evaluated the team. Once you get this far down in the draft, you take whoever you think is capable of making an NFL roster, regardless of position.

by Nashmeister on Apr 24, 2010 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not going to check, but I would wager...

that the Texans have the shortest overall draft out of all the teams….Holliday is the icing on the cake, but I think they would have had the honor without him.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Apr 24, 2010 2:18 PM CDT reply actions

i did check, so I won't wager

cuz we do have the shortest average draft.

Good call!

by texanphil on Apr 24, 2010 2:32 PM CDT up reply actions

How did we get him?

I thought our last pick in the draft was Shelley Smith. Hopefully he is Dante Hall v2. Jacoby is better on punts than on kickoffs anyway.

Trindon Holliday is a burner

2007 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships 100m – 10.07 sec, 2nd place behind the USA 100m record holder. Holiday could have gone to Worlds but chose to play football.
2008 USA Olympic Trials – reached the semifinals
2007 NCAA Championships – 10.02, 2nd place
2008 NCAA Championships – 3rd place
Best 100m time – 10.00
40 time – 4.27

When Holliday was trying to find a college he ran a 4.28 40 in high top basketball shoes in a workout for LSU. The coaches were shocked and thought they timed it wrong so they gave him another try which he ran from a standing position…he ran a 4.27.

He literally has World Class speed and is probably faster than Chris Johnson. I expect the Texans to use him as a PR/KR and in the occasional bubble screen or end around. He was a RB in college so he has the talent to find running lanes and could be used as a 3rd down back for screens or draws. I love the pick.

Mike Mayock, NFL Network
197 — Texans — KR Trindon Holliday

Holliday is really an interesting pick for the Texans. He’s one of the smallest players in college football, but arguably the fastest. His primary use will be on special teams as a return man. But, over time, he could develop into a slot receiver and someone you try and get the ball to on reverses and bubble screens. He’s a play-maker in space.

by The Night Owl on Apr 24, 2010 8:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe Al was thinking,

“I already drafted this guy in the 1st round last year,” and he did the math and realized he didn’t need two of them?

HE'S 5' 5"!!!!!

are you guys kidding me????!?!?!? you, (a cumulative you) who are so negative and critical! Always ragging on somebody or another!!!! He’s 5’ 5" and weighs as much as my dog. He’ll get lit up on his first return and never come back. Why don’t we want Bolt? Because he’s a track star, not a football player. I like the first 2 picks. I’m liking Tate more and more. I don’t know why we’re the TE farm, but the Texans haven’t hired me yet, so I can’t complain too much, but a Return Specialist???? Really?!?!?!?!?!?
