Dorin Dickerson Is The Newest Texan!
By the way, BRB, who's your least favorite player? Dorin Dickerson, or Cortland Finnegan?
Nobody ever says Dorin Dickerson.

He better be a WR
otherwise this is a waste. 7 TEs.

Heard he'll be a WR
Crazy stats. How did Wanstedt not use him as a WR in the first place?!
Well, I'm ready to accept him:

If he can be utilized at WR, he could have JJ type ability.

Also
apparently, Mayock had this guy w/ a R2 grade
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
wow
as much as i think it’s hilarious to take another te, this guy sounds like he could be pretty legit. for a seventh rounder to have that kind of ability, why not roll the dice..
oh yeah, we already drafted 3 te’s (not counting guys that were te’s) within our last dozen picks already…

Well, when I do this in 2011
I know I need to mark down 2 spots for TEs. Automatically.
"Lord, beer me strength."
2 is perfect.
Hill, then OD
2 more rookies this year.
Shouldn’t it be the Houston Tight Ends instead?

I'm assuming he will play WR
Under that assumption I like it.
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
I called it!
Dickerson is an athlete that has lined up everywhere from tight end to wide receiver to linebacker to fullback.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
Did you see him play at all?
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

highlight vid below
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
What happened to S?
I thought we needed safety help…. maybe the Texans will add some crazy TE schemes into their crazy zone…. the start of a new day for defenses everywhere, using late round unnecessary TE’s to play defense for you
Very apt comparison.
He better be a WR. I’ll be waiting for the presser to hear that.
"Lord, beer me strength."
Yep vert good comparison
Colston was called a TE coming into the NFL
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
From Walter Football
227. Dorin Dickerson, TE, Pittsburgh
As Texans beat writer John McClain tweeted, “I think Texans TE coach Brian Pariani must have pictures. They drafted two TEs last year and two this year. Wow!!!” Houston sure loves its tight ends, but I can’t blame them for taking Dorin Dickerson here. What a great value. (Pick Grade: A)

He's a TEINO
Tight End in Name Only. He looks more like a WR.

wow. he really does seem like a WR.
i’m wondering why they played him as a TE though?

look at our TE depth chart
then look at our RB depth chart.
take a flier on a RB, not TWO TEs.
Dunta's weightspeed was too low
I'll call it now
If he goes undrafted: Kevin Matthews will be a Houston Texan.

We're in good company!
Ravens, Patriots, Eagles, and Texans have all taken 2 TEs this draft.
That’s good company….amirite guys?
"Lord, beer me strength."
I think this guy is a keeper as a WR
I like this pick. He has huge potential.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
He is overpaid
no reason for him to be back, especially with Jacoby jumping past him on WR chart too
Every coach picks project QBs
Maybe Kubiak’s working on project TEs. Who knows how many extra draft picks might be in that
or he could trade OD for draft picks
and start working on Graham and Casey
i really like that idea actually
i hope that pans out

3 WR Set
With this guy, Dre, and Jacoby. Damn good luck opposing defenses
If at first you don't succeed, draft, draft again
Lots of value at this point
I thought Dorin would be long gone by now. One hell of an athlete, but he just started playing offense last season so he is very raw. Should be a project, but in the 7th round, an exceptional pick.
Thanks for stopping by
We would welcome any insight, history, etc. regarding DD
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
Thanks
Dorin DIckerson was a highly recruited running back in Pennsylvania, but was unable to adjust to the position in college. Pitt had a somewhat controversial offensive coordinator at the time and Dickerson didn’t see the field. He was eventually moved to linebacker and languished on the bench there too. Two seasons ago, Pitt hired Frank Cignetti Jr. as their new offensive coordinator and he moved Dorin to TE this season, where he became Pitt’s go-to guy after Jon Baldwin, scoring 10 touchdowns.
As a receiver, Dorin is a very raw route runner, but has exceptional athletic ability. He drops very few passes and doesn’t shy away from contact. I can see him being an Anquan Boldin-type of receiver if he get’s the opportunity.
Best of luck.

I like the pick
if we got a WLB in the 3rd.
But lets say we got a stud WR in the 7th. Does he start over newly minted KDub? Or do we run this behemoth in the slot?
Dunta's weightspeed was too low
If he turns out to be another Marques Colston, I'll be happy with this pick
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

would you not be happy if our 7th rounder was productive??
Thats really all you can ask from a 7th and that would make me happy. Id love it if he rivaled Colston, but if DD can turn into our #3 WR it would be worth the pick.

yeah, i know who colston is
the guy that was picked right after we picked DA in the seventh round. my point was that you should probably lower your standards just a tad, if only for a seventh round pick

Hey, don't get me wrong, you usually don't expect much from a 7th Rounder

This is a great value pick.
We should have taken an OL instead of Graham in round 4.
A statement to the players of the Jazz and Mavericks: Please stop flopping all over the court.
I think this was a "best available" pick
Dickerson was rated much higher than the 7th round but he fell for unknown reasons. He was a Mackey Award Finalist (best TE) and a 3rd team All-American. He was the best value on the board.
Yes its alot of TEs, but our TEs were plagued with injuries last year. OD, Hill, Casey all got injured and we dont know what OD will come back as. TEs are also one of the most versatile and valuable players because they can play as TEs, blockers for FGs/punts, and on kickoffs/kickoff returns.
This pick tells me many things about what the FO is thinking. Firstly, they are comfortable with our O-line and FS situations. Maybe they know something about Chester Pitts that we dont but only drafting 1 OL is unlike Smithiak. As for FS, I think they like Wilson but they also probably know one of our young CBs could switch to FS.
We picked alot of speed and great all around athletes. Jackson, Tate, Mitchell, Holliday, Dickerson are all fast for their positions and Tate, Holliday and Dickerson especially are amazing all around athletes. If we are building around speed, we are doing the right things and I like it.

I'll be happy
so long as they address OT, C, and FS depth through UDFA or veterans.
"Lord, beer me strength."
Can't Sherrick play FS if needed
and there’s Quin
thats what I meant
I dont know who exactly, but Im sure the FO thinks Quin, Sherrick, Bennett, McCain, or Molden can play FS.
TDC – UDFA wouldnt really address the need. It could help depth, but they are unlikely to make the roster anyway. What about Alan Faneca??

Sorry, i forgot we dont like people over 30
but I do like 9-time Pro Bowlers who helped steady a playoff team’s young O-line.
I would have no objections to signing him for 2 years at a reasonable price.

Faneca
Pancakes thinks we’ll show interest. So it’s obvious that we won’t.
I magine the Texans will show interest in G Alan Faneca after the Jets cut him. He’s from Houston. He’s 33. I bet he’d like to play at home.
Can't trust Pro Bowl recommendations on OL
Especially at G. They get their first Pro Bowl when they should have been named two years earlier. And then they languish around too long and get nominated way after they should have been put out to pasture.
by socctty on Apr 24, 2010 5:43 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
let sherrick play fs
Quin needs to stay where hes at.. hes great at corner its harder for a rookie corner to start and be successful at CB, especially a 5th
Mayock's writeup
Pick Analysis: Dickerson is an undersized H-back with explosive skills. He caught 49 passes for Pittsburgh last season, 10 of which went for TDs. It is hard to understand why he fell all the way to the seventh round. He’s an athletic mismatch, and the Texans got a steal.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
From the offical Houston Texans Twitter.
Dorin Dickerson will be playing wide receiver, says Gary Kubiak.
good to hear
AJ, KW, JJ, DD

how are we gunna work kareem jackson
in at tight end? isnt he a little undersized, aahhhhh thats why they drafted earl mitchell, Mitchell is a little oversized for a tight end but his strength should make him a great blocking tight end….of course then we have the projected starting tight end ben tate, love his speed, physicality, a little undersized but is a recieving threat and is sure to make a matchup-nightmare for a few outside linebackers
Mayock on DD
After Selvie, the Texans took TE Dorin Dickerson, who I had given a second-round grade to. He’s an undersized H-back with explosive skills. He caught 49 passes for Pitt this season, 10 of which went for TDs. I knew my evaluation of him was too optimistic, but I don’t understand why he fell all the way to the seventh round. He’s an athletic mismatch, and I think the Texans got a steal.
