Apparently...

Revis Island, Cromatie’s 12-Pack of Kids, and the Wilson Special aren’t enough. Jeebus.

This is the breakdown for playing the Jets:

That's it!!!

Kevin Matthews, Jevan Snead, Dennis Landolt

are the 3 I’d like to see in Houston.

A free safety would be great as well.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Apr 24, 2010 4:59 PM CDT reply actions

I'd rather...

Zac Robinson over Jevan Snead. I’d like to see Brian Jackson brought in as a UDFA and shifted to FS. He has the size and the speed to be decent, though Terrell Skinner is an option as an even more natural FS.

I’d like for us to also try to trade apostrophe somewhere, instead of just cutting him, for a pick or two in next years draft or something for depth along the o-line maybe.

My reasons for Robinson over Snead are two fold.

1) Robinson is more capable of managing an entire offense, Snead is not.
2) Robinson makes better decisions than Snead. Snead has a huge tendency to make very poor decisions, and let’s face it…we’ve been down that route with QBs before. I won’t name names, but hairspray wants his clipboard back…

Robinson is also very much like Schaub, not entirely mobile, but he’s accurate and has some range. With a year or two under Schaub to learn the intangibles about leading an NFL offense, the kid will be fantastic. Especially in this system.

by Fuzion on Apr 24, 2010 5:03 PM CDT up reply actions

The problem with that...

Zac Robinson got drafted.

Now THAT is not something I want to hear.

by Fuzion on Apr 24, 2010 5:06 PM CDT up reply actions

That's why I was saying Snead

1st round talent (at one point people were talking about him in the 1st), so there’s upside there if Kubes wants a project.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Apr 24, 2010 5:07 PM CDT up reply actions

He doesn't have the arm strength...

And he showed this past season he isn’t good under pressure. Granted, with the weapons we have he might be okay, but I think he just makes poor choices ala Hairspray. Perhaps I’m wrong, but it’s just what I noticed about him.

I have a feeling we don’t bring in a third qb this year, which is a surprise in and of itself.

by Fuzion on Apr 24, 2010 5:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Unless...

Doris Dickerson plays QB as well?

(Wild) Bullrush formation! WOO!

by Fuzion on Apr 24, 2010 5:12 PM CDT up reply actions

No

Snead certainly has the arm strength, which is the most overrated way of rating QB’s. Snead just lacks decision making and football IQ. Ironically, those are way more important then arm strength.

Stumpy: It's called the '80s. Ford was president, Nixon was in the White House, and FDR was running this country into the ground. I was bummin' in a hole-in-the-wall town in what is now called "Utah".

by kriess on Apr 24, 2010 7:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Well...

Maybe we get lucky and they eventually drop him. Wouldn’t surprise me being a late 7th.

Granted, the fact Belly-check took him in the 7th tells me he sees what I see in the kid. Which means…Texans F.O…my phone is ready to ring! :P

I was unimpressed with the entire team and no one stood out. Maybe it was the black unis but they looked skinny compared to the competition. Oh, that’s right! It was against Florida. RT @NFLDraftBible: The NFL Draft Bible reports fullback Isaiah Greenhouse from Northwestern State has signed with the Houston Texans.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Apr 24, 2010 5:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Rated as the top fullback eligible for the 2010 NFL Draft, Corcoran is a hard-nosed blocker who plays with an aggressive streak. He has helped pave the way for eventual NFL running backs Brian Leonard and Ray Rice, guiding each player to 1,000-yard seasons while at Rutgers. The Atlantic City native also has a dependable set of hands, an undervalued asset to his game.

Corcoran isn’t much of runner for a fullback, but he has shown the ability to be a receiver and last season caught 19 passes for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns. He is a good overall athlete and understand leverage as he was the was the New Jersey state champion wrestler in the 215-pound weight class. Because of his wrestling background it making him a very good blocker in short yardage and goal-line situations.

by Mike Kerns on Apr 24, 2010 5:55 PM CDT up reply actions

That would be ruthless!

Wasn’t Kubiak’s kid in this draft, also? It’d be interesting if we grab him as well. Maybe no one wants to upset Bob McNair?

Then again, Chris Snee was drafted by the Giants, and he has made the Pro Bowl. Probably a different dynamic there than your son playing for you though. Don’t want to piss the coach off, since you’re going home and fucking his daughter at night.

by socctty on Apr 24, 2010 10:11 PM CDT up reply actions

I have 3 theories

A) Bruce Matthews didn’t wanna coach his son. Didn’t want his son to face pressure in Houston as “Bruce’s kid.”

B) Kevin, when given the opportunity to choose, went for the team he followed growing up…even though there’s a new hometown team.

C) Bud Adams is the fucking devil and did this to fuck with Houston because he hasn’t let it go that the city gave McNair a palace.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Apr 24, 2010 10:14 PM CDT up reply actions

C is definitely in play

Any doubt that’s why he drafted Vince Young? Not that I’m upset about that particular move.

by socctty on Apr 24, 2010 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions

could still be rather awkward

having to do everything to prove that his dad isn’t playing favorites. better not to have to worry about nepotism or any appearance of that.

It’s much better for overall team morale to keep the “playing field” as fair as possible. For all members of the team.

We’ll probably never see Kubiak’s children or Bruce Matthews’ children playing for the Texans until they leave or something.

As a player, would you want the shadow of “your dad got you that job” hanging over your career?

by BattleRedFan on Apr 24, 2010 10:31 PM CDT up reply actions

If the player is good enough to get the job

then I don’t care who the dad is. Barry Sanders’ son still has to prove that he can do it on the field so I would think that Matthews’ son would do the same.

allow me to declare this a decent draft. If Earl Mitchell plays SP well and carves out a spot in the DT rotation and if Sharpton plays SP well and beats out Diles for WLB, it becomes a good draft.

What I've read...

is that they wanted insurance. 3 of the 4 TEs are coming off of off-season surgery of some sort. That’s why Graham was taken.

Dickenson was just ridiculous value and a project WR at round 7.

by TexansDC on Apr 24, 2010 10:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, Dickenson had absolutely no business...

…being available in the 7th round. I really don’t understand how that’s possible. I mean Marques Colston went to Hofstra so nobody really knew about him and he played inferior competition. But Dickerson was a big part of a great team, and absolutely tore up the combine. It’s not like he could sneak up on anyone. This kid could be phenomenal.

by Kenny Larrey on Apr 24, 2010 11:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I understand the insurance thing

but you would think that in an uncapped year, they would just get guys off the street. However, with that said, I really don’t have a problem with either player. Graham sounds like he could take OD spot if he’s traded and Dickenson was great value that I can’t blame then especially that late in the draft.

is it just me...

or is everyone excited about our draft picks? Especially Holliday, Tate, Dickerson, and K-Jack.

by Jahon on Apr 24, 2010 11:32 PM CDT reply actions

By the end of the year, you'll take a Holliday.

Pun aside, Holliday is going to make some big plays.

Christmas in April?

After all, all Texans fans got a Holliday! oh god I just need to quit now…

I'm pretty darn excited...

From what I read about Earl Mitchell, I even think he’s getting a bad rap too. Any 300 lb DT who runs a sub 4.85 40-yard dash, notches 6 sacks, and whose draft profiles all say he has real good lower body strength gets my vote. And he’s only been playing DT for 2 years!!

by Kenny Larrey on Apr 24, 2010 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions

I do wonder about Sharpton though...

…but not because I hate his uncle and hold it against him. It’s just that his profiles mainly say he has bad instincts, which makes him a pretty odd pick for Smithiak that high in the draft, when all our LBs have fantastic instincts (except Adibi). Besides Eric Norwood was on the board.

I also can’t figure out what the heck we’re going to do with all these fanasticly intriguing and potetial-heavy players. We can’t fit them all on the team. Goodbye glenn martinez. I love me some Dorin Dickerson.

Mitchell is a Barwin type pick

of course Barwin was a better prospect but still a smaller quick but strong motor guy who is developing..

by leacheatsbabies on Apr 25, 2010 12:45 AM CDT up reply actions

Sharpton has been commended on his athleticism

From what I can tell, his major knocks are that he’s not as big as you’d like at MLB, but he’ll be at WLB anyway. His size is more appropriate there.

Another knock on him is his tackling technique and, as you’ve pointed out, his play recognition.

I think it makes great sense to pick him, though. I think he really does have a chance at making the starting lineup as a WLB.

No..

…nobody likes Al Sharpton, lol. He’s annoying.

Well, for a fee...

I can hook you up in the BRB CPP (Commenter Protection Program)… but you have to sever all ties with current family members and friends, turn over all cash and assets and live in a refrigerator box under an overpass for a couple of years.

Lemme’ know and I’ll hook you up…

Good-bye Joel Dreessen?

That’s why Graham says to me, anyway. Isn’t he constantly hurt?

If you think Dreessen’s best days are behind him, Daniels is coming off of a torn ACL – an injury he’s had before, I believe – and is going to command a large contract, which leaves us with James Casey and Anthony Hill, it makes sense to take Graham.

Mitchell played high school TE, and Barwin played some college TE, and Eric Winston is a former TE I believe, and Dickerson was listed as a college TE – but none of these guys are pro TEs. I think we just see the word a lot and it gets stuck in our heads some.

If you think about the nature of the TE position, it’s easy to see how so many athletic guys can have that in their background.

So, that’s the end of my attempt at talking myself into the Garrett Graham pick.

by socctty on Apr 25, 2010 1:41 AM CDT reply actions

I think both Dreessen & Hill will be gone soon

I think both will be traded away. Hopefully we can trade them both to the Rams for Atogwe, since they are hurting for some TEs

I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

by The Night Owl on Apr 25, 2010 3:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Isn't it better to trade OD

His trade value would be higher, and he is going to be extremely expensive to resign. Not sure if Smithiak wants to spend as much on a TE.

by kaizer on Apr 25, 2010 4:44 PM CDT up reply actions

OD is untouchable

these drafted guys are unproven u make that trade AFTER u see if they translate to the NFL

by HB23 on Apr 25, 2010 5:21 PM CDT up reply actions

OD isn't untouchable

He’s coming off of his 3rd ACL tear while also being in a contract year.

If the Texans don’t like the risk of paying big-time money to him…they can move him for a pick.

Joel Dreessen played well after OD went down. Having 2 big games against Miami and New England. We have depth at TE.

by TexansDC on Apr 25, 2010 5:36 PM CDT up reply actions

You know Dreesen and Casey can play in the NFL

they proved that last year. You have Graham and Hill backing up then. It probably becomes a matter of what we can get for OD in that case.

by kaizer on Apr 26, 2010 12:39 AM CDT up reply actions

The Texans won't ship out Dreessen

Joel Dreessen is the only long snapper we have. That’s the main reason he’s on the team – he long-snaps but can also play a position, however modestly.

I don’t know that they cut Hill either unless he really doesn’t recover from his injury well. They love him too much as a blocker. Hill is more likely to get the ax than Dreesen though because Dreessen has the added value. It’s also Hill’s 3rd knee injury or something.

With that said, I don’t know that they can realy carry 5 TEs on a 53 man roster in the end. I just don’t think drafting Graham necessarily means the end for either of those guys. Who knows, if Casey doesn’t improve considerably or develop his long snapping, he could be the one shipped out. As likeable as he is, he doesn’t really stand out at any one thing.

If Casey proves he can long snap by the time of the final roster cuts, Dreesen could be gone. If Hill doesn’t show that he can overcome his injuries, he could be gone too.

OD won’t be traded this year. Period. He’ll re-sign.

This video is hilarious.

Maybe we drafted Daryl Sharpton for his humor. http://www.facebook.com/BenTateRB?v=wall#!/video/video.php?v=795995291961&ref=mf

Enjoy.

Dont be surprised if Nick Polk makes the team

Ive watched him play because Im an Indiana fan and I really like the kid. He is 6’0 220 who started 40 games in 4 years. He switched from WR to FS after his freshman year and stepped right into the starting job, albeit because IU had no one else to start there.

Stats at FS from 3 years
179 tackles
131 solo tackles
5 INTs
4 forced fumbles

Combine Numbers:
4.63 40m
39 in vertical
15 bench

CBSSportsline.com’s writeup on him says he is physical enough to be a SS but athletic enough to play FS. They thought he would be drafted but because of an injury history, he wasnt, lucky us. Weaknesses include poor tackling technique, play diagnosing, and poor ball skills. Strengths include athleticism, physicality, and speed. My bet is that he is one of the last cuts because of our weak S depth and his ability to play either safety position.

I knew you'd be able to give some insight into IU

What about Will Patterson?

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Apr 26, 2010 11:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Patterson is a good tackler but slowish

He’s a short dude but he packs a punch. Reminds me of Gary Brackett both body wise and playing wise. I think his chances to make the team are a lot less likely because of the depth at LB but he could be a practice squad member.

Im just speculating now but he was a team captain as a JR and SR so thats probably the only reason signed him.
