Relative Value of Draft Picks
Abstract: The NFL's salary scheme for rookies results in overpaying top draft picks. Basically, salaries start high, and drop-off faster than the talent level of picks. It's something you knew intuitively, wishing aloud for the Texans to trade down, but here is the confirmation. Richard H. Its a pretty good article. And I agree with the premise. Rookies get too much to be worth what they are paid. Vets should get that money.

This is why they should just do away with the draft....
I’m serious.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
I love the idea
But theres no way a sports league will ever go free market.

I haven't clicked the link
But I imagine that 90% of rookies are worth what you pay or are a better deal. But most of the first round draft picks are over-valued.

I think the problem is mostly with the first 10 picks.
I think it really hurts bad teams sometimes, they can easily get stuck on the hook for a player that has proven nothing and can continue to drag them down for years. cough JAMARCUS RUSSEL cough
Rudimentary creatures of flesh and blood, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
I agree with this theory
I drafted a similar post on this concept a while back.

This is a problem
I fully expect the NFL to fix with the next CBA.
