Texans Sign Neil Rackers

Adam Schefter is reporting. Texans gave Neil Rackers a two-year, $4.1 million deal that includes $350,000 guaranteed. But he'll have to win job to earn his money.Texans keeping Kris Brown and will have an open competition this summer. Brown vs. Neil Rackers Best kicker gets job.

Sounds like a lot of money to come in and compete for a job but it finally gives me a bit of hope that Shankapotomus is finally getting the boot.

Link to the story on ESPN. Guess it really isn't a lot of money if he gets cut but lets hope its the other way around.

Thanks, saentia.  Pretty huge signing, all things considered. - bfd

Here.

You do have to wonder how the team feels about this.

A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

Damn, was just about to FanPost my own.

Copy/paste time!

I know he missed the big kick against the Packers in the playoffs, but he was 16-17 in the regular season last year and has always provided a lot of value on kickoffs with his huge leg. I fully expect him to beat our Brown.

I do hope Kris Brown still is with us next season.

But if he just is not the same then hello Rackers. Eight years is / was a nice run (Delete as appropriate next season).

At the worst

He pushes Brown to return to form (theoretically.)

At the best, we get ourselves a very reliable kicked with a monster leg. The money is reasonable, and he has to earn it.

I respect the FO for making sure no one is under any illusions here. It’s an open competition…. Rackers v. Brown straight up.

Monster leg?

He didn’t attempt a field goal over 50 yards last year. He had a groin issue. He was cut by his team because of ONE kick? I wonder about his monster leg.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

Pancakes reported today that it was a salary dispute

Arizona did not agree to Rackers demand for $2 Mil/year. The Texans apparently did. He also reported that Rackers was headed to New York to visit the Jets, but Rick intercepted him on the way.

It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

Monster leg, does that make him Kickzilla?

If I made 4.1 million in 2 years I’d never Fn need money ever again. 3% of 2.1 mil is $63,000.00 dollars. You can buy the name brand koolaid and have some change left, and then make money off the change.
