Cushing Wins DROY... Again
And for the first time in NFL history we have a two-time winner of the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Cushing received 18 votes to second place Jairus Byrd's 13. Clay Matthews Jr. managed 10, while former Longhorn Brian Orakpo stole three. Oddly enough, James Laurinaitus received one to round out the voting.
Well, BRB? Still pissed off this ever took place? I think it's clear now how much of a waste of time this whole thing was.

It makes the AP look really bad
They lose their shit over the steroid suspension and decide that a revote is absolutely necessary, only to… vote for Brian Cushing yet again? What a waste of time.

That is, it makes whoever made the decision to revote the whole thing look like a pearl-clutching, sanctimonious asshole.
According to Jason Whitlock, it was Peter King leading the charge for a re-vote.
"Lord, beer me strength."
@WhitlockJason: Whoa. Did Peter King really drive this Cushing re-vote deal? This was his idea?
"Lord, beer me strength."
I'm pretty sure he just supported it
He wrote on article for SI about it. I don’t think he was the one to suggest it though, I think that was the AP’s decision alone.
"I'm just looking forward to something great happening in the city of Houston" - Tracy McGrady
Still waiting...
True...
but if people wanna bash on Peter King, I’m all for it.
In either case, it was a waste of time. It was a knee-jerk reaction. And, to this day, we still don’t know why he triggered 1 slightly elevated test. It’s just been a ridiculous ordeal from start to end.
All I know is that Charles Robinson is an uninformed moron. Sure looks like he got 0 votes, eh?
"Lord, beer me strength."
Because I don't like King
I choose to believe this is all his fault. Douchebag.

Here's what we know:
—Peter King praises the AP for their decision to re-vote.
—He points out that he talked to the AP’s sports editor, who says that the re-vote is being done in the name of transparency.
—He says that he agrees with the re-vote because “Cushing cheated.”
—He admits that he voted for Shawne Merriman, even though he was on the roids as well.
—His explanation? “Life changes.”
—He says that, even though Cushing cheated, it’s ok for him to remain on the ballot.
In other words, Peter King has taken a stand on steroid use on precisely nothing at all. It would be one thing if he said, fuck that, Cushing is out because he cheated and shouldn’t even be on the ballot. If you leave aside the gargantuan double standard he created with the Merriman vote and the piss-poor rationalization he provided, this might even be a defensible position.
Instead, he’s boldly carved out a space where he can have his cake and eat it too. If Cushing somehow hadn’t won on the second ballot King could have claimed to the high heavens that this cheater got his just desserts. If Cushing won on the second ballot, he could say, hey, that’s cool, I didn’t mind that. It’s everybody’s choice. Even though I thought he cheated, I was also ok with him getting the award.
Welcome to the brave new world of gutless, intellectually lazy mainstream journalism.
Bravo, Peter King. Bravo.

The AP may be idiots
but at least they made the correct choice twice.

Cush was the best Rookie by far...
the revote was stupid anyway. I’m glad he won again, I still think he is a knucklehead, but hey you need knuckleheads sometimes.
GO TEXANS!!!!
Our time will come...
Like I said in WhiskeyR's post
It’s an attention-whoring move.

BANNED!
Never link to that garbage website with worse than Pancakes*-type reporting.
- - I will cut Pancakes some slack for the time being. He had good points on the AP re-vote and didn’t throw Cushing under the bus…
"Lord, beer me strength."
Wow
If you read some of their comments, it makes you realize how much shit they make up over there. Not one of them mention he tested slightly positive for hCG, they all point to steroids are HGH.
Because Music City Miracles doesn't know shit
It’s one of the worst blogs I have ever read because they have no standards over there.
I hate BBS as much as the next guy, but at least he’ll try to put some facts into whatever he writes or else his readers will call him out on it. At MCM? Nothing.
"Lord, beer me strength."
In my opinion
SB and MCM have the exact opposite problems. SB has good commenters for the most part and a super douchey mod. MCM, on the other hand, has a couple of smart mods and the most backwards commenters possible.

One AP article paragraph....corrects so much wrong.
A person familiar with Cushing’s case told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Cushing tested positive for HCG, a fertility drug that is on the NFL’s banned substance list. The person said Cushing had one positive test last September, then subsequently tested negative several times. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the test results were supposed to remain confidential.
Then you get into the occurances of HCG, what it may mean, what it may signal….
Of course, Cushing’s press conference later in the week may set the story straight, but it’s just a bunch of blind leading the blind over there.
"Lord, beer me strength."
I think
you guys should start a MCM haters fanpost. I for one would love to see your guys comments.

Not necessarily saying that
But if you’re looking for objective coverage of a steroid story, visiting blogs that support an archrival of your team probably isn’t the place to start.

I've at least gotta say

What Cushing should do is call a press conference
and announce how much this award means to him by breaking it into pieces and throwing it in a trash can. Not completely an original idea, heard it on PTI yesterday. I just added the breaking it into pieces for dramatic effect.
It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

Good.

It's worth pointing out
He did lose his second-team All-Pro spot, getting only one vote on the OLB position revote bumping him down from 3rd place to…somewhere.
I know this might make me a bad fan but
I was kind of hoping he’d lose. Then shove the award up his butt so he can grin smugly as he handed it over.
