Texans Make It Official; 16 Undrafteds Signed
You can see this thread here to see that BRB had the scoop on most of these names mere hours after the draft, but, according to National Football Post and the mothership, it's now official. Your Houston Texans have signed 16 undrafted rookie free agents.
Bowling Green QB Tyler Sheehan
Rutgers FB Jack Corcoran
Arkansas WR London Crawford
Iowa WR Trey Stross
Temple OT Steve Maneri
Texas OT Adam Ulatoski
Colorado State OT Cole Pemberton
Concordia OG Kristian Matte
Wyoming DE Will Unrein
Arkansas DT Malcolm Sheppard
Indiana LB Will Patterson
Northwestern State LB Isaiah Greenhouse
Arizona St CB Pierre Singleton
Indiana S Nicholas Polk
Cincinnati S Aaron Webster
Purdue S Torri Williams
What say you BRB? Do you know any of these 16 players? Should we be excited? Who will be this year's Arian Foster?

Not Adam Ulatoski.
That guy was soft as mud at UT.

And added to the front page.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
No way.
Guy is softer than than my balls on a pillow
Polk the safety from Indiana is the cream of this crop.
He could make the 53

They'll take a OT
After Winston and Brown, all they really have is Butler. I’ll go ahead and guess Pemberton since he’s got the CSU connection and he’s got great size at 6’7’’ and 315 pounds.
"Lord, beer me strength."
Sounds like Ulatoski may not make the Texans
But sounds like he has a spot on your team….did I just say that? That was so uncalled for….
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

Can I get some kind of breakdown for these dudes?
I know nothing about any of them.
Yeah, because I suck
Just your average, run of the mill hardcore casual Texans fan.
I'm sure we'll have people add in bits and pieces....
like TexasHoosier who knows the IU guys fairly well.
I know Ulatoski is soft. Like yogurt soft. Maneri weighs like 265 and is a hybrid TE/OT so he may make the roster cause of that. Pemberton’s a big son of a gun with a pipeline connection for a school that runs the same kind of systems….so he’ll have a leg up on the competition.
Corcoran is supposed to be a great blocking FB. Should be able to push Vonta Leach.
I hear lots of good things about Polk. Supposed to have good instincts.

Isaiah Greenhouse signed as FB

Autra
I had planned on doing profiles for all of them, but then the Cushing story hit. Only one I got to was Ulatoski:

Diehard Chris had some stuff on some of the others over on HDH.
Good assessment of him
Lance’s blog makes note that Ulatoski looks “dreadfully slow” so far in OTAs.

Thanks Mike
…and everyone else for the info.
I’m sure I could have looked more up, but it’s a bit difficult when you have either a 3 year old climbing all over you, or you’re trying to take care of an infant while you hunt down info.
Just your average, run of the mill hardcore casual Texans fan.
One guy to watch for is WR London Crawford.
I’ve watched him play at Arkansas for awhile and he has got a lot of potential. Even if we have a ton of WRs, I’d like to see him get some snaps.
"You got to believe in yourself. Hell, I believe I'm the best-looking guy in the world and I might be right."- Charles Barkley
Is he a big, possession WR or a speedy dude who could also chip in on returns?
"Lord, beer me strength."
I'm in camp Corcoran
I think he’s the only one with a real chance.
Sheppard could be in the mix if injuries strike.
The rest of these guys I’m ambivalent about.

I'm with you about Corcoran...
feel like he could be the starter come September if Leach doesn’t get his act together.
However, I’m not counting out a T, LB, or S simply because those positions lack depth.
"Lord, beer me strength."
It's always a chance when you look to replace a vet with a rook
But, Leach did not shine last year. That opens an opportunity for a rook with promise. If Corcoran can be that guy, then let’s do it! He must be pumped.

Leach
Did Vonta have some injury problems last year? I somewhat remember him starting the year with a bum knee or something. I like him. I always thought he was a bruiser and I wanted to see a few more passes thrown his way.
I think he had some nagging issues
Plus he has one nagging issue that will probably no go away. He is getting older and his skills are diminishing. He could turn it around with some hard work, but how long will it last at this point in his career. If this Corcoran guy is the real deal, I think the team will try to find a place on the roster for him this season.

Kristian Matte
I actually heard pretty good things about him leading up to the draft. He just got drafted number 7 overall in the CFL’s draft, so it’ll be interesting to see if he sticks with the Texans or goes to the CFL.

Agreed Mr. Paquette
Is that French-Canadian? I for one believe there needs to be improvment and competition on the O-Line. Not many would disagree. Since all we have on Matte is press clippings, we are only hoping that he can be the guy.

Indeed it is

Who will be this year's Arian Foster?
You mean who will dress for the last two games of the season and contribute when the season seems to be lost?
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

I meant earn a spot on the 53 man roster and contribute...
Granted, there are other undrafted rookies on the team…given that 1,696 roster spots are available and 255 rookies drafted every year….undrafted players are a big part of filling out the roster.
"Lord, beer me strength."
I'm thinking there are few spots for undrafted rooks on this roster, if any
The guy really has to impress to make this team
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
After reading up some on these guys
Corcoran, Polk, Webster, and Maneri seem to be my favorites of the bunch.
Corcoran’s a really good blocking FB. He went undrafted because he wasn’t productive at Rutgers, of course…dude’s a blocking FB. At the very minimum, he should be able to push Vonta Leach.
Nick Polk’s the only FS of the bunch. Some sites thought he’d get drafted. Good instincts….needs some work, but he has a chance since FS isn’t a strong point in Houston.
Webster’s the same but a SS. He’s got great size and speed for a SS….needs some work on coverage skills, but he seems promising.
Maneri’s a former TE turned OT….needs to put on some weight, but he’s athletic and can block. He could grab a back-up OT spot since Ulatoski’s dreadfully slow (according to Lance) and soft while Pemberton apparently is a bit too slow and a bit too weak (according to his online reports; at the East-West Shrine game, he got beat by both the fast and strong mid-round DEs).
"Lord, beer me strength."
One of the things that impresses me about the Texans' FO
They really do try to bring guys into camp each season looking for players that have a chance to push the incumbents. This teams really is trying to get better and they really are trying to do the small things to accomplish that goal. And, I really used the word “really” too many times in this post, but REALLY!
