Owen Daniels Signs One-Year Tender
As EHTR FanPosted, Owen Daniels signed his one-year restricted free agent tender this afternoon. Specifics after the jump.
Texans tight end Owen Daniels signed his restricted free-agent tender offer, the team announced Friday. The one-year deal is worth $3.168 million.
Daniels, 27, who ranks second in franchise history in receptions (207) and receiving yards (2,501), missed the last eight games of the 2009 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He is still recovering, although he has been present at the team’s offseason training activities, signing an injury waiver to participate.
If Daniels hadn’t signed the offer by June 15, the Texans could have reduced the tender to 110 percent of his 2009 salary, which would have been $3.0712 million.
So at least one more year in H-Town for OD. Question is whether he's here in 2011. Given the situation at TE and OD's desire for the security of a big money, long-term deal, I'm guessing this is the last year we have the privilege of watching OD ply his trade as a Texan. Agree?

Still waiting...
As I said in EHTR's fanpost...
I don’t expect OD in a Texans uniform in 2011. Best bet: Sign and trade for like a 3rd round pick and a late rounder/2012 conditional pick.
"Lord, beer me strength."
I think if he can return to the form we saw last year,
then he’ll get a long term contract. But then of of course, he’ll be a free agent….. Or will he? Will he still be a RFA at the end of next season?

Must I remind you that you are wrong 90.8% of the time? That being said, on behalf of all Owen Daniel fans, I offer their thx….
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

It certainly seems like the most likely scenario capwise
but I don’t hear the fat lady singing just yet. We have this coming season (at least) to savor OD’s skills, so here’s hoping he makes a boatload of memorable plays in 2010. Bring it on OD.
It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

I can't see the Texans having the top paid TE in the league
When they have several backups who can do a competent job for relative peanuts. Daniels deserves a long term big money deal, but the Texans are really deep at the TE position, i’m just not sure it’d be a good value for them to give him what he deserves.
What Bryan said ^
OD has earned his way to a large contract (fuck Kellen Winslow)…..but it won’t be in Houston.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
unfortunately he is gone next yr
given they spent the past 2 drafts selecting TE’s (sarcasm)
with Casey and Graham and Hill and Dreesen, common sense would say he would be expendable altho hes the best TE we have his production is replaceable but not the intangibles but hopefully someone fills that too
Rockets-Texans-Dynamo-Longhorn fan.. used to be Astros too, but not sure there a pro team anymore
the uncertainty of his knees wont help his cause either
