Arian Foster Enters Camp As Starter
Slaton is coming off surgery and Ben Tate is a rookie that hasn't signed, so it's not THAT surprising, but Arian Foster is, for now, your starter at running back. Not exactly sure how I feel about this, as I think Slaton's confidence can use a boost or two, but Foster proved he can at least be an effective back in the rotation at the end of last season.
I guess we really haven't had someone with his size and strength at the position and Chick seems to agree: "Arian gives us the size, and he made good decisions at the end of last year," Texans running backs coach Chick Harris told AOL's Dan Graziano. "I think we're in a good spot with Arian starting it off, but I also think Steve Slaton will contribute for us in a lot of ways. As far as youth and talent, I think this is the best group we've had, if we can just keep them healthy."
Here's to the best man winning the competition!

or no post on main page…this is some pretty big news…
any I think that it really doesnt matter who is named the RB1…somehow Foster Slaton and Tate gonna combine for 35 touches a game and it will be pretty evenly

Nice Find, Curtis

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
I don't think you make Slaton the starter just for a confidence boost
Before the neck injury, Slaton was not running as well as in his rookie year and of course had the fumble issues. Foster on the other hand took strong advantage of his opportunities toward the end of the year and deserves to be labeled the starter as of now. I like the message that it sends saying, “performance dictates who starts.”
That said, it’s definitely not a death grip on the position and being the starter before training camp is waaay less exciting than being the starter on opening day. I’m guessing that performance in the preseason could still change that.
well stated
I’m not sure that Slaton will ever reach the level he had in his rookie season. Not a slight at him, but look at the competition. This is a good spot for the Texans to have this bunch of talented RBs that they can spread the touches over. It is in the team’s best interests to have balance, and not rely solely on one RB. It is also in the players’ best interests for career durability reasons to limit their carries. I say let’s get them all in the mix and let’s try to ride that pony for as long as we can.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
