The World Cup is almost upon us. Will the USA recover from their weak showing last time around and make it to the knockout rounds? Will they return in shame like they did last time? Let's discuss it here.
The U.S. starts with a real tough match against England. Kickoff is days away but already the thought of our boys taking on our former colonial ruler is keeping me awake at night with anticipation. After that we have matches against Slovenia and Algeria.
Due to my Dutch parents, I'll also be rooting for Holland as my second team. Unlike the U.S., Holland is considered a world power at the beautiful game, but one prone to bouts of self-destructive behavior. Nonetheless, they have as good a forward and midfield crop as any team in the tournament.
But the real favorites are Spain, winners of the most recent European Championships, and Brazil, who win this trophy all the time. Other teams with a shot include Argentina, Holland, Italy, England and Germany.
Here's hoping to a memorable tournament, and go USA!
