Saturday Night Tunes
Tim's been threatening to cat-nap the kittens again if I don't post something worthwhile, but this is the best I could come up with. So, welcome to another (filler) edition of Saturday Night Tunes!
As most of you know, I've been spending a lot of quality time on my computer lately, the vast majority of it working and downloading porn downloading porn. Unfortunately, my being so busy has precluded me from discovering much in the way of new music, so I've been listening to some of the oldies lately. After the jump, I'll go into more detail (I think this is what's called a teaser).
Lately, there's been a lot of Uncle Tupelo, Steve Miller Band, and the Allman Brothers (h/t DisplacedTexan). On the newer side of things, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti (specifically, Before Today) has gotten a lot of play time along with MGMT and, I'm embarrassed to admit, The Ting Tings. There's just something about Katie White's voice that shreds me.
But getting the most playtime of all? A friend's band called The Strange Attractors, which is a delightful blend of garage, psychedelic, and rock. Not only do I dig them because I went to the bassist's wedding, but I just really dig the sound.
/pimping friend's band
So, how's about you? What have you been listening to?

Otep, Disturbed, Mastodon, and KoRn
been going on youtube to listen to Otep. I really like the fact that the singer is a chick
living the Texas dream
Kids today and their heavy metal
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

Funny you should mention Mastodon
Today I linked this video on my Facebook as the greatest movie intro EVER!!
They should play this before every PG or higher rated movie.
Otep will be here in August with The Agonist
I would like to see that show.
More for The Agonist though.
The Jack White mix
White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather.
I dunno why I’m stuck on that listening loop, but I feel as if my appreciation of JW grows as I age.
"Lord, beer me strength."
I'm having a Fattire...
and downloading some tunes I can learn to play on my guitar, mostly songs with about 3 chords, like Can’t you see, Sandman, A horse with no name etc. Weak I know, but no givin a damn.
GO TEXANS!!!!
Our time will come...
OK, ewwwww
Two beers give me hangovers: Budweiser and Fat Tire. I swear they’re the exact same damn beer.
Good for you, Texanmaniac. If I devoted as many hours to learning the real guitar vs. Rock Band, I might be able to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Maybe.
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

Oh
Drinking New Belgium Trippel right now. It’s my current beer of choice (love the 7.8% ABV). 1554 is definitely a nice beer. It’s Fat Tire that kills me.

Yep
Real Ale, which is out of Blanco just southwest of Austin, made an Anniversary Ale. The distributor, who’s a friend, said that it was anywhere from 9.0 to 11.5 ABV, depending on the batch. They only kegged it, and it was beautiful.

Abbey Ale.
Gotta go with it over 1554 and Fat Tire.

Discovering Hank III that I needed to hear, rediscovering my Faith No More collection, borrowing some Johnette Napolitano that I don’t own, and listening to my “Really Red” station on Pandora.

Hank III
I live out in the country and when I’m feelin’ redneck, I crank the Hank III. Willie, Waylon, Shooter,Cash all Three Hanks, Haggard, in other words real country.

Barry Manilow, Gordon Lightfoot, Color Me Badd...
You know, the kings of rock.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I’m usually listening to Ting Ting’s and They Might Be Giants on Saturday with the kids but today my daughter found the Doug E. Fresh stash. We’ve listened to ‘The Show’ at least 35 times.

Particle man particle man
doing the things a particle can. What’s he like? It’s not important.
Jacoby is my ghostwriter.
Lately? I've been digging acoustic
It’s one of my favorite albums, but I’d set it aside for awhile: Sufjan Stevens’ Seven Swans album. Additionally, I’ve been relaxing to The Tallest Man On Earth’s Shallow grave album, Vetiver’s Thing of the Past, and Jose Gonzalez’ In Our Nature.
Some local hip hop
I went to a hip hop showcase on Thursday night and this guy Hollywood Floss was handing out free CDs. Turns out he also produced a track I really love for another local guy Fat Tony, and the album he gave me (Art or Fiscal Intelligence) is pretty amazing. I’ve been listening to it in my car the last few days. http://www.myspace.com/hwflossss check out that myspace.
Listening to snippets of Dawn Metropolis on emusic
Sounds like a video game soundtrack.

Scar Symmetry- Dark Matter Dimensions will be in my playlist the moment I can track down a copy.
On emusic

I've been listening to some light stuff lately.
Coconut Records, The Shins, She and Him, Iron and Wine, Regina Spektor, Rilo Kiley. Folk music FTW! Oh and the new eminem cd has been getting a lot of play lately on late night drives.
by Jordann on Jul 18, 2010 5:37 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
Broken Bells
I pretty must listen to anything and everything Danger Mouse is involved with. Broken Bells is proving a pretty interesting little side jaunt for DM and the guy from the Shins. Highly recommend it.
And a lot of The Beatles… particularly “Abbey Road”
Oh and how can I forget… the new Roots Album – “How I Got Over” It is absolutely fantastic. HIGHLY recommend it for fans of hip-hop.
a couple
The Black Keys – sweet sounding rock/blues
Sage Francis – fantastic storytelling rap in which the lyrics take primary presence over the music itself. Listen to “The Best of Times” and you’ll be hooked.
Lots of Black Keys here, too.

"Lord, beer me strength."
I tried it.
Wasn’t impressed.
Still prefer the dollars/rubles exchange rate here.
hCG levels within acceptable range.
Been a fan of Bob and Co. for over 10 years
In that time I’ve amassed a collection of all of his old stuff (Joe Rockhead, Ugly Americans, The Scabs) along with his newer stuff. My favorite albums are still Freebird by The Scabbs and The Californian by BS. But mostly, I’ve created a Best of BS playlist of about 75 tracks that I can run on repeat and the eclectic sounds NEVER get old.
Dude’s also an artist, poet, animator, and I’m starting to feel like a stalker.

JJ Cale....
has worked his way to the frequent list and some Leonard Cohen has well.

I love these threads
So far, I have found Phoenix, Pepper, Common and Slobberbone in the last ones. This time Bob Schneider (awesome), Local Natives and MGMT. This may be the best way I know to increase my music library. Thanks BFD.
It turns out I overestimated my apathy, but not enough to matter.
My pleasure
It’s what makes this fun.
