Rivers gives an in-depth look at the Texans, Rick Smith, and their safety history. It's a pretty good read for those already wanting UCLA FS Rahim Moore in 2011.

let it be known I want Moore

It was no secret that I wanted Earl Thomas, but Rahim Moore led the nation in interceptions last season if i remember correctly. We have young CBs that could use a decent ball hawking safety lets give them some help.

Excellent article

I called in to Sports Radio 610 before the draft and made a lot of the same points, but they wouldn’t have any of it. I still have hope that we’ll make a move for Jarrad Page, because NO ONE expects that Eugene Wilson will stay healthy.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll get lucky and Troy Nolan will turn into something special.

Texans face a two-front attack

The Colts are a spread-you-out, pass-first offense. Therefore to slow them you need a quality cover safety.

Conversely, the Jags and Titans are both run-first offenses who require a box safety to defend.

That’s a tough fence to straddle for the Texans, but either way K-Jack was a solid 1st rounder. How well he hits the ground running will go a long way in determining the success of the season.

Maybe the safety comes next season…

Texans

The Texans have always been about quantity over quality at their secondary positions. This is only the 2nd first rounder corner we have taken in our 9 year history. I don’t know word for word but I believe either Kubiak or Rick Smith have said that its easier to find quality secondary guys in the late rounds. They seem to find that secondary players are not worth spending big money or high pics on.

2 first round corners in 9 years is actually pretty high.

Plus, you have to remember they gave big money to Jacque Reeves and that they’ve spent multiple picks on corners (Molden, Bennett, McCain, Quin, etc.). Corners are quite highly valued, it’s safeties that are ignored.

I hate to bring up it up

but in our 9 year history we gave up WAAAAAYYYYY too much for Phillip Buchanon.

And yet, as bad as that trade was

The Babin trade was the runaway winner in the poll. Pretty sad.

true

they seem to believe in veterans off the scrap heap over drafting young guys but maybe now that the team is getting better they will be less hesitant to rely on young guys. Of course if Kareem Moore struggles they might not but we’ll see.
