Around SBN: The Most Dangerous Division in Sports

It's an insider piece but oh my is it a dandy. Sometimes I like Joyner's writing (Who claimed Fred Bennett was a great CB) but I think he goes overboard on his metrics. If your metrics were telling you that Amobi Okoye was better than Haloti Ngata would you really publish an article about it? I'd hope not.

Crazy

The most baffling player ranking I have ever seen. Which says a lot.

I think people (including Joyner sometimes) gets too caught up in his metrics

Miles had a great year. If you could compare all the times AJ was double covered or that the coverage was rolled towards him my guess is it would be different story. I don’t know why Joyner has to make a definitive claim that Miles is the better WR instead of just letting his numbers be just one of the tools. He used to be the first to point that out….but I guess this sells more issues of the ESPN fantasy preview.

This is also one of the reason I dislike fantasy football. So much analysis is geared towards the “fantasy” player instead of being about actual football.

I don't think the claim is here; seems like a jumpy headline.
Many might not consider Miles Austin to be an elite wideout yet, but he actually had a better set of metrics than any of the three other aforementioned contenders this past season.

Simply put, as great as Johnson is, in 2009 he not only wasn’t the best wide receiver in the NFL, but wasn’t even the best wide receiver in Texas.

Nowhere does he say “Miles Austin is a better football player and will be going forward”

KC might not have written the headline

So you can give him a pass on that, but that last sentence seems like he is trying to make a pretty definitive statement to me.

Did he do metrics for Jacoby Jones? Maybe he can invent some that show that he is the best WR on the Texans!

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
