Lets Talk About Additions and Subtractions
Many of you have said that we would look to game 3 to make definitive picks for selections and cuts that will take place after Aug 31st. But why wait I always say... Who do you think will be available at what positions and what do you think OUR texans will do.
AND NO we cannot trade Kris Brown, Okam and Kubiak for futre considerations... I am thinking these are the positions we really need some help with and if availability is there we should make a move.
1. Defensive Interior Lineman--- We should be grab a couple of beefers where we can give several looks whether 3-4 or 4-3...
2. We should look for some additional help for the offensive line--- Where's Chester when you need him?
3. Another back would be nice one that is big enough to play full back who can assist on short yardage
4. Veteran assistance at FS and corner.

Not saying that we switch but we could run some sets out of the 3-4...
Doin stuff so nasty that you have to do it twice to confirm the level of nasty!!
I agree, we need a bigger DT
But, running a 3-4 wouldn’t suit our personal. The only time to run 3 D-linemen is when we’re running a prevent cause we’re already up by a couple of TD’s in the 4th quarter.

Even then
we shouldn’t use a prevent defense anyway. I’d rather have the defense play aggressive and hungry throughout the game.

A bigger back who can also play FB is a little bit of a pipe dream
Two very different skill sets in today’s NFL. I can’t think of one combo RB/FB player out there. There are some RBs with enough size so it’s not impossible, but the two positions are just asked to do very different things. Our back up FB’s are usually TE’s.

Our backup everythings used to play tight end.
But yeah, the only FB/RB hybrid I can think of today is Leron McClain.

Or in the Texans case,
you can get TE’s that play FB, WR, QB, RB, LS, LB and DE!

Can one of them kick?

I was impressed with Anthony Dixon last night
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
TOBY GERHART!!!!
(I kid, hopefully obviously)

Thankfully, a lot of us are looking to be right about the kid
12 rushes for 34 yards with 30 of that coming on 2 attempts.
"Lord, beer me strength."
That's only 3 yds per carry... the 30 came against scrubs

Subtractions and some Minor Regrets
Andre Davis (we just aren’t happy so long as he’s on the books/ if he wants to renegotiate his contract fine, otherwise, goodbye and don’t look back)
Tindon to practice squad (no matter if he returns two for touchdowns over the next 2 weeks, he cannot be counted on at this point and we need returners who 1st and foremost get the Offense on the field, PLUS our alternatives NEED reps). We do not need a Homerun hitter with this offense. We can send Jacoby out when the situation calls for a “Touchdown or Bust” mentality.
Okam needs to be cut. He is a never-will-be and simply mocks us with his massive presence.
Shoulda kept Pitts and I actually thought Grossman too…spilt milk…but never really understood how we were better by letting them go. I think doing so were mistakes.

Agree on Okam
Remember Jacksonville? That’s why the Sex Cannon is a memory. I sleep better knowing that.

I agree with Pitts
I was disappointed they let such a solid player go.

He was a solid player.
But he also had arthroscopic (sp?) surgery on his knee.
I think the Texans just wanted to move on and give a younger player a shot.
hehehe....I guess Shelley Smith fits that bill
Hope to see him in some action this weekend. Hey, Rivers! How much has Shelley played up to now? How does he look on film?

Small sample size
but I like it. Caldwell and SSmith for guard duty!

Thx for the link TDC

Yeah,
But they could have brought him back to compete for a spot. Nothing wrong with him being beaten out by a younger player.

I think there was some question if he was going to be healthy by training camp
So they just made a decision early on to go in a different direction rather than make him a part of their plan and wave to wait. I would have liked to have seen Pitts back too, but I can understand why they did it.

Okay, let's talk backup QBs
Thinking that Orlovsky might not be the guy, is there a QB out there on the horizon that might be the guy? Here’s a possibility. The Steelers have three backup QBs and they can’t keep them all. I believe there number 1 backup is Byron Leftwich. Behind him are Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch. I think one of them has to go and possibly before the season starts. I wouldn’t mind seeing either of those guys try out as number 2 QB.
