BRB Madden Tournament
[Ported from the comments because I really DO think this could be fun]
I need the following information: when do we have to submit a representative?
Because if we’ve got at least through this weekend, I’m putting together a little BRB Madden tournament to determine our representative. The rules are as follows (I’m making them up as I type):
[Two Rules Modifications]
- Assuming we have the right number of players, a single elimination tournament. No seeding, match-ups completely arbitrary.
- After a night of sleep and a well-reasoned response, I suppose it makes sense for everyone to play as the Texans. So Texans ahoy! BOTH players as the Texans and may god have mercy on us all.
- 5 minute quarters, NO clock run off, All-Pro difficulty
- Register by replying to this post, registration closes at 12am CST TOMORROW night. I’ll make up the brackets and post match-ups Wednesday morning, with an eye toward starting games Wednesday night.
- Aim for a game each night, hopefully crowning a champion by Sunday evening (SBNation requirements permitting)
I’m obviously open to modifications to the rules. But I think this could be a fun little exercise to pass the time until the season starts. I see a lot of gamertags above, but if you could re-post that would be swell.
The results will have to be on the honor system. I don’t believe I can monitor a Madden game online, and anyway I don’t have my wireless card hooked up (fuck you moved modem!). For those interested, I’ll get your emails off your profiles or post them if you don’t have them (and don’t mind them being on the interwebz). Daily results up as a fanpost!
Is there honor amongst Texans fans?
Vini, vidi, Madici.
Gracias, DT. Also, we need to have a rep by Tuesday, September 7. - bfd

Wednesday & Thursday night work for me. If it runs into Friday night, that might be tough to make considering my work schedule. Saturday & Sunday late afternoon/nights are good though.
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

....
if the idea is to have the best texans team player, why not let both players use the texans? and the skill set for online games is All-Pro, and when we do play other SBN sites, would it not automatically be All-Pro?
either way im in

Yes yes...
You’re all right. I just find it so weird to watch the same team play each other, but yes… it makes sense for the players to be the Texans.

Just gonna throw it out there...
BRB should consider running one of these in the offseason every year. It’d be a great way to pass non-football days, and, it’d be good fun for BRB to read about later. Hell, I’ll volunteer to write up some “articles” about each game (if somebody can find a way to get game logs or something to me…).
Just sayin’…it coooould be fun.
I agree
And if the video game thread on the right has show me anything, it’s that a few of the folks around here like gaming.

It would be pretty cool
if we were able to use a capture card, and actually record the games..
Hell, even the championship game would be fine.

Well,
As long as one of the two competitors in the championship game is a local Houston guy, it’d be possible. It’s something to look at for the next run though, as this is too short of notice for this run.
Yeah
Hopefully, this will become an annual event. Its a very good idea, especially since many of us here DO play videogames.
By the way, off topic question, who plays Modern Warfare here on XBL? If you guys get the chance, leave your GTs so I’ll be able to add you.

I'm not a gamer, therefore all my dumb comments, but really I am very interested in keeping up with this
I think I saw that it is done online, one guy in his living room and the other guy in his. And, there might be a chance of other people remotely viewing. Is that right? I would be interested if that is possible.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
Only if one of us records it & posts up the video

How about this?
Tim knows a bunch of bar owners in the area. Is this something that could be done at the local establishment. Now, I realize some can’t be there, so they would be remote while the contest is viewed at the specific location? Is that possible. Could it be done over a weekend? Saturday and Sunday?

Short notice
Probably can’t get it set up in time. BUT…
We could shoot to do the off-season tournament at a bar. Make an event of it, drink specials, etc etc. I’ll see what I can put together in the next few months.

fortunately I am not hooked up online
Otherwise I would crush all of you.
unless you get to use VY, then you can throw for 500+ yards against me easy.
have you been online in the past?

Welcome newbie!
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
Then your view that you would crush is flawed
I thought I was king shit at madden until I played a few online games. Even the guys who don’t “cheat” routinely kick my ass. I didn’t know anyone who could beat me until I got online.
"Well, at least our players kept their helmets on, so that showed some intelligence"-Bob McNair
oh I had no actual belief I was good
I crushed the All-Madden level on Madden 10.
I’m currently surviving well on the All pro level in Madden 11.
but the guys who play online are wayyyyy better. This I know.
oh, hint to those playing, Trindon Holliday is kind of a badass if used properly. 97 speed is useful. And he’s shifty.
It makes me sad,
I dont have madden 11…. otherwise you all would be dominated by my use of Arian foster, and Andre Johnson Dbl end-around to Tridon Holliday. along with my use of all out blitzes..
"Your mother is a hamster and your father smells of elderberries! Now Go away or I shall taunt you a second time!"

add PieRatKing along with a message to say you are from BRB i have Xbox live stalkers!!!

LOL. I've played with you
and Jordan before, but thats pretty much it. We should have some type of group too — the people that play on XBL and PSN.

if there is ps3 turney
count me in my name is Twizted33 send me a friend invite
I don't have an xbox
But is we could play at a bar or at someones house I’m pretty confident I could destroy all the other SB nation contestants. It’s all about puting all the speed in on D fellas

i was looking at the xbox and there is no way to play friends online so how will you go about doing this.
I don't think anybodies is worried about the rankings for this
"Well, at least our players kept their helmets on, so that showed some intelligence"-Bob McNair
Rankings not needed
Yeah, this is just about determining a BRB representative. So long as you can play someone from your friend’s list, that’s all we need.
by DisplacedTexan on Aug 31, 2010 1:05 PM CDT up reply actions
Wait
Are we going to get achievements for this?
"Well, at least our players kept their helmets on, so that showed some intelligence"-Bob McNair
Full Body Massages from BFD count as achievments now?
Have you ever tried just turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?
No, I think you have to buy that off the marketplace
…but it’s only 10 Microsoft points. BFD lovin is pretty cheap.
"Well, at least our players kept their helmets on, so that showed some intelligence"-Bob McNair
For all those MW2 nerds out there..
“Hey guys, my friend is hosting a 10th prestige lobby — it includes all weapons, all camos, all titles, all emblems, everything. Only 1600 microsoft points, or $15 on paypal.”
So annoying.

I’m down too. I think if we could get a list of everyone who is interested and then randomly put together the bracket then give people a day or two to play this should be alot of fun.
