I know it's Pancakes, but...
@McClain_on_NFL I hear Aaron Schobel is being released by Bills today. That means Texans can talk to his agent, Jeff Nalley.#Texans

SR610 flash texted me that this was true.

The fact of the matter is, we should sign Schobel and NOT cut Bulman.

Cut Fat Frank Okam
Cut DelJuan Robinson
Cut Tim Jamison
Cut Pannel Egboh
Cut Jesse Nading

Do not cut Tim Bulman.

Agree With Your Bulman Stance

He’s a valuable piece for the DL rotation.

Well see here

Speaking for myself, when I said “Tim Bulman” I meant that the rest of these guys are almost obviously going to be cut in the end anyway. I’m assuming someone with 10 sacks last year is making the team, ergo, someone would have to go if he was signed. First thought = least talented DE we have, i.e. Bulman.

by riversmccown on Aug 4, 2010 11:01 AM CDT up reply actions

I love Bulman's motor - he'll never be great, but he is solid and never takes a play off

I didn't crack 100 lbs until I was a senior in HS

Funny story – on the bus going to a non-conference soccer game my Junior year of HS in New Providence, NJ. Apparently the coaches had agreed to exchange rosters before the game: Name, Number, Height & Weight because this was the only time we ever did this. Only time we ever played this particular team. He’s going around asking everyone their height & weight. I shout out something like 5’1" and 90 lbs (don’t remember the exact numbers but that’s close). He shouts back “I can’t write that down. Today you’re 5’4” and 125 lbs. The whole bus gets a good laugh". Fun times. Good memories. Don’t really remember how that game turned out. just remember having a fun time playing that day. Good memories.

I’m pulling hard for Mighty Mite to make the team, but a strained hammy certainly will not help towards that end. I have a feeling Trindon is going to have an explosive, though not necessarily enduring, career returing kicks for an NFL team. We won’t be able to hide him on the PS. Some team will take a chance with him.

Actually...

They’re in 3rd place I do believe. And if they can keep some kinda streak going and win 2 out of every 3, they’d be in 2nd place. Pretty damn good for this team, I’d say.

by Fuzion on Aug 4, 2010 11:18 AM CDT up reply actions

Sorry...

They’re in 4th and 2 back of Milwaukee. So 3rd is pretty much a given at a minimum if they can keep the streak alive. Especially with how the Brew-crew is playing right now.

The NL Central this year is/was pretty damn weak except for St. Louis and Cincy, but even really, if those two faulter down the last two months it’s not impossible to think the Stros could sneak in. It’s happened before.

by Fuzion on Aug 4, 2010 11:21 AM CDT up reply actions

You outta watch the young kids play...

They walloped the Cards last night…18-4. I don’t think there was a single HR in the entire game from the Stros either. 22 Hits. It was a fun game to watch on TV.

It really is an entirely new team, though Keppinger was always hitting like a ball player should. The rest of the kids were brought up from AAA or what-not, and are proving they should do well together next season.

This is my blog article.

I think the text of the article is pretty clear that I don’t have a special source. I was pulling together information nationally, local (from Buffalo), as well as referencing the John McClain direct quote from Schobel. The “source” I referenced was a poke at ESPN’s Bret Favre coverage yesterday. It was tongue and cheek. I altered the heading of the article slightly to avoid the header being used as hard news… All that being said, I really do think this thing is about to go down.

A Slingbox is a device that...

You hook to your TV/Settop box and your network. It lets you view what’s on your TV (or set-top box) over the internet. I could basically stream the Texans games in HD over the internet (high-speed fiber internet FTW) for anyone to view…though I’d restrict it to BRBers only to keep bandwidth down.

by Fuzion on Aug 4, 2010 4:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Cool.

I tried several of the sites suggested last season for streaming Texans games and none of them worked. Will need some suggestions/help, possibly for the first pre-season game, but definitely once the season starts.

I get woefully few Texan’s games up here.

To keep a running tab each week of usable Texans Live Streams out there via FanPosts. Hope that’ll help ya out ol’ timer (nothin wrong with that!). If I don’t get a Slingbox myself….

Thanks.

The best connection I can get is a wireless feed which ain’t all that fast. Better than DSL, but not as good as cable or high-speed fiber. I’ll try the sites you give though. Or use your Slingbox feed if ya get one and don’t mind sharing.

by Jahon on Aug 4, 2010 5:17 PM CDT up reply actions

If only it were that easy/simple...

With preseason games in HD this season, I am sure I can find some stream or two that won’t be totally inundated with Texans fans trying to watch it from abroad.

Let me think a little bit longer on it. I might be able to come up with a viable solution for you without too much work.

I've had RedZone with AT&T UVerse...

It was decent enough. Don’t know how much more it is, though. If it’s reasonably priced, I’d say go for it. Though, it really messes with the game-viewing experience because you’re just catching highlights and final minutes of different games.

by Fuzion on Aug 4, 2010 4:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks.

that’s kind of the impression I was getting as well. Not sure I would like that….just catching the highlights….but at least I wouldn’t be totally out of it and having to rely on the NFL Network and their game ticker.

The mail flyer says $7 a month, but then it says I need the HD TV (got it), HD receiver (don’t think I got it so there is another cost), minimum 120 channel pack (got it), and sports pack (don’t got it). But the flyer gets confusing there, I can’t tell if the $7 covers the sport pack and RedZone or if that just covers the RedZone being added to the sport pack. I know you guys may not be able to answer, hoping someone might have gone this route and know though.

Slaton has

DA returned punts yesterday….I think the injuries are forcing them into these roles, but interesting nonetheless.

True

…but I think that might provide a little insight into how the Taxans envision his role with this team. If the Texans were planning on having Slaton be the RB#1 he probably wouldn’t be working as a return man. If they envision him as a third down back getting 5-10 touches a game this is a way to get him another touch or two out in space, where he excels.

Maybe

Just maybe, he can be put into a roll like R. Bush. More touches for Steve would be nice. We need to put him out in space so he can create.

Per Scurfield
1 other note from practice: The Texans were down to 6 LBs today. Cushing (personal business), Diles & Adibi (injured) did not participate

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said LB Darnell Bing, a former USC Trojan, had a “great morning.” Rookie Darryl Sharpton also made some nice plays

I forgot about Darnell Bing…so did the rest of the league, I guess, since he spent last year on the practice squad.

Before this thread

I did not know of Bing or Egboh.

Didn't realize we had 4 USC guys either

Bing, Booty, Cody, Cushing……only behind 6 Colorado State guys and 5 from the U.

Being an ATM.....

fan myself, I hate to say this, but the Aggies haven’t had many NFL caliber players the last few years.

That is changing finally, but there were some pretty lean years there. Thanks Coach Fran.

It was tough to watch, because as I recall

… for a stretch in the 90s (and maybe 80s too), A&M had more active players in the NFL than anyone other university.

We’ll get back on track with Miller and Johnson and then Fuller, though. I think all 3 could be first rounders.

by krkenney on Aug 4, 2010 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions

I believe you recall correctly....

the last player drafted from A&M that I know of was Martellus Bennet and I just looked and that was 2008, but that was one that year and I don’t think there were any others.

Miller and Johnson I agree, not sure about Fuller though.

Mark my words, but I think Fuller finishes the season as the conference's best receiver.

And the last player drafted was Jordan Pugh in the 6th round of the 2010 draft by the Panthers.

by krkenney on Aug 4, 2010 6:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Alright, I heard it here first.

And how many other A&M players were drafted that year? I don’t care what other people say, Coach Fran took A&M backwards. It actually happened before that.

Explain to me again why the AD fired Slocum?

WOW

can he play saftey or what? i mean if he can why not?

by southpaw70 on Aug 4, 2010 12:02 PM CDT reply actions

Nobody ever really thought he had a shot at Safety in the NFL

I think it was a struggle for him to keep his weight low enough to have the quickness to play safety. Too stiff in coverage. Too slow. He either makes it as a LB or finds a new line of work.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

this jsut made my life, i grew up a redskins fan till the Texans came into play, and i hated the pick up SOOO bad when they got haynesworth-less.

side note, i LIKE the redskins…

i would sacrifice several small children just for a playoff birth for the Texans!

Some people say "If you can't beat them, join them". I say "If you can't beat them, beat them", because they will be expecting you to join them, so you will have the element of surprise.
