Kubiak Says TE Owen Daniels Will Start On Sunday
This news isn't that surprising. However, we should take it as confirmation that Owen has looked good in practice.
On a related note, Daniels had a snap count of 15-20 for Sunday's game when he was initially cleared. Earlier this week, Kubiak said it was 20-25. Now? He'll see how Daniels feels throughout the game to determine his playing time.
As we head towards Sunday's opener, I'll take any and all good signs the team offers.

our ace in the hole.
no matter what the Colts gameplan, they can’t account for the new wrinkles we’ve put in with the addition of OD. so you have those plays that NONE of us have seen yet, plus the packages that we’ve already seen in preseason… can i go on record right now saying i think schaubby has a chance to break Dan Marino’s single season passing yds record? i’m thinking yes. 5,084 isn’t impossible….in this offense.

It's Dennison who's bringing the wrinkles...
Man, am I glad to see Dennison mixing in some counters and other new, non-Gibbs stuff. I don’t know squat about the actual scheming but I do know that NFL coaching staffs will catch onto stuff really quick, and if you ain’t innovating you’re going backwards. You might get away with it for a couple of years, but they’ll catch up to you sooner or later. I think Gibbs’ rigid system was getting a little predictable. And I think Dennison’s schemes will benefit OD (and all the other receivers) in a big way.
Im not starting him in fantasy though.
I’ll wait to see how much he is played.
Heathen!!

He's starting in my other league
Non-BRB of course. Fact is, who else are you going to start? Unless you drafted 2 TEs, no one else is worth a look. Even if Daniels puts up mediocre numbers, he’s still good enough to start at TE.
Now, if we were talking about an Arian Foster (Durga forbid) or a Maurice Jones-Drew coming back from ACL or MCL surgery, then yeah, totally understandable. A TE tho? Just can’t see a good reason NOT to start him.
My reasoning is different, but I agree
He’s getting at least 20-25 snaps. He’ll get targeted….has a chance in the red zone….unless your back-up is great, I would start him.
"Lord, beer me strength."
As a side note...
My back-up in the BRB 2 League is Jermaine Gresham. While normally I wouldn’t start him over OD, this is one of those weeks where I really have very little to lose either way. So why the heck not, right?
But yep. Agreed.
that's the beauty of our offense.
it’s all read/react, option routes. which is why the chemistry between the QB and reciever has to be on point, and that’s what we have. when AJ comes up to the line, he has a number of routes that he can choose, based on the yard/distance, play called, how the CB is playing him, etc, etc. if him and matty see the same thing, our offense can embarrass a defense. i think that’s why he always looked for OD on third down, they were on the same page route wise, so he could throw to a spot as opposed to throwing directly at the reciever.

So Vernon Davis
just became the highest paid tight end in NFL history:

This may seal the deal with OD and the Texans. I just don’t see Rick Smith giving OD 38 mill or higher, not with his injury history
aye
Every big TE signing probably drives up ODs asking price, or at least makes him less likely to budge on his contract demands
Have you ever tried just turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?
Kellen Winslow
I believe once he got the money he got from Tampa, the end of OD’s tenure in Houston was a done deal. I hope he has a great year this season and gets a HUGE contract in the offseason. Sadly, I don’t think it’ll be from Smithiak.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Ya
The Kellen Winslow contract (which he did nothing to deserve) really put the cross-hairs on the Texans OD situation. I will miss OD if/when he leaves but I do think thats why we have drafted so many TE’s in the last few years (well that and I hear that if you have at least 8 TE’s on your roster Mike Martz will promise never to be your OC as he is afraid of them)
