Fantasy Football Thread

We had a couple of these going last season so I figured that I(or anybody else) would get one going every week for this season too.

If you have any questions regarding "who to start" and "who to sit", just ask away in this fanpost.  Though nobody here is considered a fantasy expert, you can just listen to several people's opinions to help you make a better decision.

To get things rolling, here's my FF question.

I have Drew Brees as my QB in one of my leagues and picked up Vick off the waivers.  Though im not sure that Vick will start in place of Kolb, he's projected to score 20+ points this coming weekend against the Lions.  That's about seven more points that Drew freaking Brees against SF.  So should I take a risk and start Vick?  Or just stay with Brees eventhough he might disaapoint like he did last week?

John Carlson or Owen Daniels?

I would say Carlson, but Hasselbeck doesn’t seem to target him much. Owen isn’t fully recovered but he can he muster 40-50 yards?

Houshmandzadeh or Knox? and Hasselbeck or Flacco for my OP?

OD, Knox, Hasselback

Although OD only got 2 targets last game, alot of that had to do with the fact he was on a snap count, and we were running the ball so well. Washington’s 3-4 defense will be better against the run, and their love for blitzing every play could allow ALOT of quick checkdowns to OD. Knox over Housh by a wide margin. Housh is WR#3 on a running team and just learning the playbook. Knox is arguably the WR1 on the Bears with a pass happy offensive coordinator. I’m gonna have to go with Hasselback slightly over Flacco here. Flacco has better weapons and more upside, but Hasselback doesn’t have a reliable running game and no goalline back as evident by him running in a goal line TD play himself last week. He will need to throw the ball more to stay in the game and score, Flacco’s ravens are playing the Bengals which have a very good CB duo and more leaky towards the run.

Leaning slightly on OD

I watched the SEA vs. SF game and Hasselbeck seemed to have forgotten about Carlson. He was wide open on that play where Hasselbeck ran it in for the touchdown. On top of that, he wasn’t targeted as much. About 4-5 times that whole game.

With OD, he was targeted about 2-3 times the whole game. I can see that increasing especially with the running game being effective.

I would go with OD, but if you can find a better option in the FA pool. Go for it.

And, stick with Drew.

Packers didn’t gameplan for Vick, so he had a field day. It won’t be that good next time.

I might gamble on Vick

The Lions have the worst secondary in the NFL and with 10 rushing yards worth more than 10 passing yards, a stat line similar to what he had against Green Bay is pretty good. Not to mention he had a week to prepare this time and will get to play the whole game. Brees could have a good game so its a gamble, but if theres any week to gamble on Vick this is gonna be the one.

I hate you for picking up Brandon Jackson before me.

Im of course leaning heavily on Brees because it’s Drew freakin Brees. But you’re so right about Vick, this would be the best time to start if I was ever going to.

Normally

I follow the rule, “always play your studs”, but this is the one week Vick could have a field day on a bad secondary.

Cant Cover Brown

Im pretty sold on Vick. But I just remembered how bad those SF corners played against Matt Hasselbeck. They bit to pump fakes like crazy man. On top of that, those safeties were a little too aggressive for their own good. Bah. I thought drafting Brees would eliminate my decision making on which QB to start.

Im not in your guys league but I could use opinions!

my QB is Peyton Manning
I have both saints and Texans defenses
I have Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Breaston, Chad OchoCinco as WR
I have Arian Foster, Beanie Wells, Tim Hightower, Reggie Bush as RB
I have Ben Patrick and Marcedes Lewis as TE
I have Rackers and Feely as Kickers
need to drop a kicker lol dropping Feely

by LisaK on Sep 15, 2010 6:23 PM CDT reply actions

drop the former mr. kardashian

i would keep both ds drop feely even though i have him on one of my teams.. pick up some solid wrs… for depth. or trade bush because their is always someone out there who lusts after him like LDJA12 does for VY

I am tattooing a picture of Jacobi Jones to my Mannschaft, Because it loves to go deep and always does a dance in the end...zone!

Dont listen to Joe.

Don’t drop Reggie, he can be a little valuable sometimes. Try to get something out of him if you don’t want him. As for the kicker, drop Feeley

PPR?

if its PPR scoring, you need to keep Bush. What are your starting positions? You have like the entire Cardinals offense short of the QB. Thats a big no no. Lewis over Patrick easily. Drop Feely. I like the Texans defense over the Saints this week as the Washington offense has few weapons and hasn’t shown it can move the ball yet.

What are your starting positions?

I’m gonna assume 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE. This one is easy:

Vick
MJD, Brown
Garcon, Meachem, Jones
Witten

I would drop Marcedes Lewis.

Is this a 12 team league? If it is then you don’t need to be carrying a back up TE. There should be plenty of them in the waiver wire if your first TE is on it’s bye week. But even Witten is a weak TE. I know from experience.

So I'm starting

Brady
Foster
Mathews
Boldin
Henderson
McCluster
Gates
Janikowski
Ravens D

Bench: Vick, Hillis, Hester, Branch, Manningham, Walter, Gresham, Cardinals D

I dunno wtf to do with my receivers. Branch, Henderson, and Walter had TD’s last week. But no one really got more than 8 points. I didn’t start McCluster last week, but I still got 137 points for the week.

by HoustonTransplant on Sep 15, 2010 8:31 PM CDT reply actions

Foster was the reason for your 137 pt weekend.

I would start Walter over McCluster and keep Anquan Boldin and Devery Henderson as your WR1 and WR2.

Been thinking about this

How are the Browns on special teams? That’s who McCluster goes against this weekend. Other than that I may put Branch in for him.

by HoustonTransplant on Sep 16, 2010 3:14 AM CDT up reply actions

I would consider

starting Vick over Brady this week only. Brady has to play the Jets and Revis Island. Vick plays the worst secondary in the league. You are set at Foster and Mathews. WRs I would go with Boldin, Branch, and Henderson.

by DaGoaT on Sep 15, 2010 8:52 PM CDT reply actions

Was thinking of that

but was thinking that Brady also has Welker and Gronkowski. Cromartie is trash and Wilson is still a rookie.

Anyway to look-up how Brady did last year against them fantasy wise?

I am Sancho

by HoustonTransplant on Sep 16, 2010 12:35 AM CDT up reply actions

I just swapped

Brady for Vick in my line-up. It truly did not feel right. I felt dirty. So I switched it back for now.

lol

So I looked over his stats last year. First game he didn’t do well. Second game passed for little over 300 and 1 TD, 0 INT (Brady vs Jets). So I dunno.

Jacoby Jones

This week, for my 3rd WR options, I have:

Mark Clayton vs. Oak (proj. 7 pts)
Michael Crabtree vs. NO (proj 4)
Jacoby Jones vs Was (proj 13)

My gut is to go with Jones, as I have nightmares of Clayton being blanketed by Asomugha, and generally zero confidence in SF’s offense at this point. My only real knowledge of Jones comes from when you guys play my beloved Colts (and congrats on that unholy buttwhomping you put on us), where he strikes me as a Pierre Garcon “fast and tough but drives you nuts with untimely drops” type of player. So, you guys are the experts: is Jones worth a play this week? How do you see the Redskins matching up with him?

by Drew Funk on Sep 16, 2010 9:57 AM CDT reply actions

Normally I would say Crabtree here

but until SF can show anything on offense with Alex Smith and Crabtree acting like a diva, you gotta play conservative and go with JJ.

got my ASS spanked this week.

but i was happy. i had mcnabb starting, with garcon and jones and clark. i’ve never been so damn happy to have my FF recievers perform so poorly! i didn’t even get to draft my friggin team so screw it. wherever i wind up is where i wind up… long as it ain’t in last place! lol.

League openings

I created a league that isn’t like most, meaning that it is really far off from the kind that anyone who doesn’t know anything about football could join and still do fairly well if they draft from the predetermined ranks. If your QB has a bad day it hurts and if they have a good one it is well rewarded. Fumbling isn’t something that you want happening. Defenses matter (a lot) and kickers have to pull thier weight, not ride on the offense that they play for. It’s on NFL.com, which you would need an account (take 2 minutes to sign up). the league number is 304598 and the password is 12345. Same as the combonation for my luggage. Anyway, here’s the link:

http://fantasy.nfl.com/league/304598

It turns out I overestimated my apathy, but not enough to matter.
