My son's first game
I was born in Houston, raised in Houston, lived here all my life (except for the 2 years that I lived in Huntsville in college). So naturally football is in my blood. The day I've waited for since I found out I was having a son has finally arrived...his first Texans game.
This is perfect. He's not yet 2 so he doesn't need a ticket, and it's the fourth preseason game so I won't get upset if we have to leave early (since I doubt he'll be able to last the entire game). I bought a parking pass for this game so that we can spend the maximum amount of time at the stadium, and it'll be easier to tailgate with some of our friends.
So my question to everyone here is...what meaningful memories do you have of either a) your first game, or b) your child's first game that I should make sure my son has an opportunity for?
Now I have 9 hours sitting at my desk (where I can see the stadium out my window), waiting for game time.

My first sporting event
Was an Astros game with my dad. It must have been somewhere around 1982 or so. I remember being impressed by the Dome. At some point in the game, everyone started standing on their seats and booing. I couldn’t see what happened, but my dad told me it was because someone hit a home run and they threw the ball back onto the field. I suspect that there was a fight or something like that.
In any event, it was pretty cool. I’m of the school of thought that says that any time spent with your son is good, be it the Texans or a horseshoe competition. So just enjoy every moment of it. Maybe you can show up a little early and get some autographs or something. Just enjoy it. Those little motherfuckers grow up fast.
I'll eliminate you like I eliminate gluten from my diet.

Not much to add. Being under two, he probably won’t remember the game, but those memories are still good for ol’ Dad. The open practices are great, too. You can get right up close and personal, there’s a ton of stuff to do for the kids, and best of all…it’s free. (That’s for next year of course)
Dad took me to an oilers vs chiefs game.
Not sure what year it was, but I will always remember that, and being in the dome for the first time.

Astros game
Nolan Ryan pitching & Biggio was the catcher (I think he was a rookie). I don’t even remember who the Astros played. But it was a great time, and I still remember how the Dome looked when we first came around the 610 Loop from the east.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
Astros Game
I remember it even though I’m ancient – we still had Phil Garner and Alan Ashby playing for us. Amazingly, never attended an Oilers game. Texans 1st game against the Colts in 2002 was my first NFL pro game attended (I went to a couple of Houston Gamblers games). Used to be super-fanatic about baseball but have really lost interest in the game over the past several seasons. Peace!
Astros game, 2005 season
Beat the Cardinals, then later in the year I went to the one against the Braves (I think it was the Braves at least…) in the playoffs.
2004
I think it was the last game of the 2004 season vs the Clevland Browns in Houston. I drove from Florida to take my 6 month old son to catch his first game. We get there early both in our David Carr jerseys and a man aproached us and thanked us for being Carr fans and game my son a Carr autograph. He turned out to be Davids dad. We lost the game but still had a blast and as bad as Carr was for the team his dad made it a very memerable game for me.
My first game...
Was an Astros game. I had no idea who played for the astros except Biggio and Bagwell. Turns out Clemens was pitching. The game went to 13 innings and i don’t even remember if we won or lost but it was my first proffessional game.

Posted this piece of art a few days ago. Seeing as how it ties into first sporting memories, I figured I’d pass it along in this FanPost.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Thanks to all who have posted, my son’s first game worked out well. He even got is own popcorn. .
I can’t wait to teach him more about the game and for the first time he actually makes it through an entire game.
