I agree.
But if you look at the FA pool for QB, who else would be better suited as our QB2?
I hate Dan-O as much as the next guy but he is pretty familiar with our playbook by now. He just needs to make better reads and take less chances with the ball.

Booty to practice squad.
Another team can pick him up once he clears waivers, but he cannot be picked up and put on another teams practice squad. They have to give him a roster spot. I don’t see another team burning a roster spot on him so I think it’s a pretty safe bet. If Matt goes down then Orlousy can go to #1 and Booty can be brought up.
by TexanSchmackDown on Sep 3, 2010 7:48 PM CDT up reply actions
Honestly
We don’t see the practices, and outside of him being shitty in this last game, he was decent in the others. I’m uneasy about him, but there isnt anything better out there.
Be judgmental about the actions of the past, be hopeful about the actions of the future. -The Homers Creed
Look at it this way
The practices were against our CBs, such as Reeves who never looks back at the QB. DanO zeroes in on the WR who is the number 1 read. You do the math.
OF COURSE HE LOOKED GOOD IN PRACTICE!!!
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
What Im saying
Is that Im pretty sure Kubiak is a better evaluator and has more to judge by then we do.
Be judgmental about the actions of the past, be hopeful about the actions of the future. -The Homers Creed
Yes, DaGoat, Kubiak is a better evaluator and has more to judge than we do
But, I’m going to speculate on something. Do you think he was watching the same game that we were? Let’s try to reason this out, seriously. And, you know I was half kidding about what I said above. But, seriously, this team is fucked if DanO is called on to win a game, any game, against any opponent, right? You don’t have to agree, that’s fine. I saw DanO in every preseason game and I saw him in one practice. He has good plays where he looks impeccable and he has plays where it looks like this is the first time he has stepped on a football field. That dog don’t hunt in the NFL. When the game is on the line and they are playing at game-speed, he doesn’t have it. He does not have it! If he has to make a decision at game-speed to switch to another receiver, he can not do it! Okay? I saw it. I suspect Kubiak has seen it. The team is fucked if he is in the game and he has to throw the football for the team to win. If Kubiak wants to spin it the way he is doing it, then the only thing I can do is hope and pray that Schaub does not come out. The bottom line is that DanO is not capable of playing at game-speed if his receiver number one is covered.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
I don't have much confidence in him if Matt goes down, no
but look what you are describing, a QB who looks impeccable for several plays and then does something so retarded it makes ppl what to make a fail picture about him. Does that sound familiar? Sounds like a particular ex Texan alot of ppl are screaming to get back.
There just isn’t anyone on the market any better right now.
Be judgmental about the actions of the past, be hopeful about the actions of the future. -The Homers Creed
For starters, they cut the wrong guy
But maybe there is a method to the madness. JDB is not going anywhere. He will be on the PS and he should, keeping my fingers crossed, make it through waivers. Afterall, Every team in the league is cutting a QB today and doing the same thing if possible. It is unlikely that anyone will nab JDB in this situation. JDB will continue to get practice snaps and he is still there. That is about as rosy a picture I can paint in the backup QB scene.
We agree, DG, Matt Schaub is the only guy who will lead this team.
Rosenfels? I would not complain if he were brought in. I trust that he has learned some painful lessons that he doesn’t want to repeat.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
So...
He looks great sometimes then he throws a boneheaded pass that’s intercepted? Sounds exactly like Matt Schaub coming in… Kubiak probably thinks he can coach the poor decisions out of him.

Just looks so good when not playing when not playing football competitively.

Now we have nothing but young CBs. They may hurt us this year, but in 1 year, maybe 2, we will have an above average secondary. If Kubes cut Dickerson, I’d be ranting the entire day. I’m really surprised JDB got cut. Aside from completing only 17 of 37 passes last night, he played well. No picks, two TDs. I still can’t see why Kubes like Dan. His decision making skills will never improve, and he will always be inconsistent.

What the fuck happened to Reeves?
He made his fair share of mistakes, but last I checked on PFF, he was our top-rated CB (among those with any legit snap counts) two years running. He was the only CB on our roster capable of getting a pick over the last two years too, and to the naked eye, he seemed to make visible improvements on the field.
As for going young? He’ll be 28 this season… Still several years left in his prime. Maybe he genuinely sucks, but he never really struck me as worse than mediocre. The way they’ve handled him confuses me a great deal.

If we knew today that Tate would be out for the entire year, do you think the Texans would have addressed the running back situation differently? It looks like we basically have the same thing that we had last year with a bad running back committee. I just hope that Foster doesn’t go down or Schaub will definitely feel more pressure. Also why cant we just throw anyone back there like Denver used to do? Why doesn’t our system run the same?

Breaking News:
According to Mark Berman, not only have the Texans released Chris Henry, but they have released Jeremiah Johnson. If this is true, I can understand it since we just signed an above average back up in Ward. I’m sure JJ will get picked up for practice squad, depth, etc. I’m a bit surprised though, as we could have just put him on the IR to stash him away for next year, or just put him on the practice squad.
"You got to believe in yourself. Hell, I believe I'm the best-looking guy in the world and I might be right."- Charles Barkley
I wouldn't be too surprised
Johnson has been really inconsistent during the preseason…, I think he may have danced his way off the team in the Cowboy’s game even if he didn’t get hurt last game. Slaton too I think has had a pretty crappy preseason so far, but I guess we can’t cut all of our RBs or we’d be forced to keep extra TEs to play RB during games.
Here's the entire list of cuts from Friday, via Mark Berman:

I’m really surprised we let DelJuan go. Honestly, he dominated last night when he was in. I guess letting him and Malcom go means big Frank has made the team. I’m trying to think about who’s on the bubble for tomorrow. If anyone could give me a list, It’d be much appreciated.

seeing orlosky throw those two INTS (one for a pick 6) was good in the sense that Schaubby (safely on the sidelines) gets to “feel” that again, but it NOT be him. i think going into the Indy game (at home) it settle him. if i’m not mistaken he didn’t throw one all camp, and i don’t think he fumbled either. sometimes it’s good for a guy to be reminded of what it’s like when things go to shit, keeps him sharp. as far as Dan-O, that’s gonna eat him up for a while, and hopefully it’s gonna be a while before he gets another shot. next preseason is yours buddy! till then! waves

Another random thought
We don’t have a First Game thread going, so I thought I would drop this in here. While we are worried about who is leaving and who is staying, Stampede Blue has been having “bad feelings” about the Colts match-up with the Texans.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

Paytoon and DClark are the worries
The misdirection and deception and the young players of the Texans. They will be susceptible to his fake counts, pointing, play-action, tom foolery. I hope the Texans are smart and not using any of the preseason losses that the Colts racked up for tape-watching. I hope they pull out last seasons two losses to the Colts in the regular season and get schooled on those. They need to stop DClark at the line. The best way they can do that is by putting pressure on Paytoon forcing them to keep DClark back to block. Moving Mario around, and him playing beastly is a good start. Perhaps Barwin can be a secret weapon. Eat your Wheaties Connor.

I do concur
keeping Dallas (not Southern Oklahoma) in check will be a big killer to the game plan. Pressure on Fivehead will be another. But I mean with the reflection off his head who can concentrate?
