Bob-think: Gary Kubiak deserves to keep his job because his offense is entertaining?
I have openly wondered, as have many writers on the BRB, why Bob McNair has chosen to retain Gary Kubiak as head coach of the Houston Texans.
Chris Baldwin of Metro New York presents an interesting perspective on this subject in his piece on what he thinks is really driving things.... the buzz. In his piece, Baldwin talks about the Jim Harbaugh hiring. Jim Harbaugh, as you may remember, was the "hot coach" being pursued as soon as the NFL was into the post season. Harbaugh was propelled into this spotlight by his successful season coaching the Stanford Cardinals, led by everyone's number one draft pick who chose not to enter the draft, Andrew Luck. The Stanford team had quite the season, and Harbaugh was reported by the media as being pursued by nearly every NFL team with a coaching vacancy or not, because of the buzz. Well, Baldwin compares that situation to the Houston Texans situation and Bob McNair's decision to keep Kubiak on as head coach in spite of a losing season and missing the playoffs for a fifth season in a row.
Baldwin writes, "Jim Harbaugh didn’t suddenly become one of the highest-paid coaches ever because he’s a guaranteed winner. John’s overrated brother got that cash for the instant buzz he brings, something that many franchises are finding is more important — and far easier to secure — than a true title run."
Then he ties it into the Texans situation, "This is the type of thinking that allows Houston Texans owner Bob McNair to argue in all seriousness that playoff-repellent Gary Kubiak deserves to keep his job because his offense is entertaining. It prompts the Miami Dolphins to decide that Tony Sparano is suddenly good enough again — as soon as the real buzz-generating candidates are gone."
Certainly words to think about.

Enough should be enough
I will admit that I disagree with McNair’s decision to keep Kubiak, and that I have been critical in past posts for Kubiak’s removal.
However as McNair has ruled that Kubiak will stay for one more season – what is the point to keep bringing up a dead issue?
I will move on from the “Fire Kubiak” subject and wait until next season to see how things develop. I am honestly curious to see what happens as Wade Phillips is a coach with some solid credentials as a DC. Maybe this could be the catalyst to make things happen.

Just wondering...
How did McNair choose to keep Kubiak as head coach after the “buzz-generating candidates” were gone, when he made that decision public like 3 days after the season ended and before Harbaugh even had an interview with anyone?
