2010 BRB Shadow Draft - Early Results

During the 2010 NFL Draft we had a website where BRBers could track the live draft and act as the Texans GM in real time, making their selection from the remaining available players at each Texans pick.  The "Live Draft Results" are these picks.  Some usernames may not match up with BRB names, as there was a separate login on the other site.

About a week after the draft, the site was open again to make each Texans pick again, only this time you had the benefit of seeing who went undrafted, slipped to later rounds, etc.  The "Shadow Draft Results" are listed below.

I thought it would be interesting to see how everyone did based solely on their rookie season.  I thought about totalling fantasy points, but that kinda screws the guys that took offensive lineman.   So for now I'll just throw the results up on here, and take suggestions for grading.

Who had the best draft?

I should be able to have the same two drafts available for this year.  Look for a post with registration info about a week prior to the draft.

Yeah...

TDC nailed McCourty. But really, 1 year in, it’s going to be hard to say. I actually like my Live Draft over my Shadow Draft…damn Texans HQ pumping up KJax. It was a lot of fun, and I do hope you repeat this again this coming draft. I’ll definitely take part.

by Fuzion on Jan 19, 2011 4:49 PM CST up reply actions

I think DC takes the cake

With McCourty and Verner we could have had our CBs of the future, and Geno Atkins did really well this year as well.

Runner-up: Sacdawg38, with Dez Bryant, Major Wright, Geno Atkins, and James Starks. That would have been a hell of a draft.

by SATexan on Jan 19, 2011 5:18 PM CST reply actions

Thanks (and to rivers and Fuzion as well)

McCourty’s good, but I was really keen on Verner.

If I could get Blair White in the 7th from my live draft and put him into the shadow one…I’d really love my shadow one.

TP, this was great. Truly.

Fritz agreed with Koobs on a couple of selections?

Does this constitue another “shoe” falling, on the list of “what the hell is going on around here”?…

I'm Fritz

There were some interesting guys on my draft tab.

Y’all know about Dez Bryant. He’s keeper. Ben Tate, hopefully we’ll find out about next season. Navorro Bowman led the 49ers in ST tackles and filled in for the injured Patrick Willis, no small chore. Jacoby Ford did some good things including taking three kickoffs to the house for Oakland. Larry Hart, on limited playing time for the Jags has two sacks. Deji Karim also with the Jags was also outstanding on kickoff returns and filled in for MJD when he was injured in the last game of the season against the Texans picking up 52 yards. Jamar Wall was cut, but not before being picked up by the Texans, even getting in a game before being cut by them. I still think the Texans should keep their eye on him as a possible kickoff or punt returner. He has 4.3 speed and he was a WR before switching to CB his senior season. And then, lastly, Trindon Holliday. You know his story…. Oh wait, Ray Fisher. He didn’t make the Colts squad, I don’t think. Not sure where he is. I’d like to trade Fisher for Dorin Dickerson.

I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

How did

Dan Williams do this year?

I lost track of him after most of BRB wanted him.

the tenth time is a charm

PFF has him 16th

Out of 77. Sigh.

I WILL do a better job of participating in this for 2011. This is really outstanding.

A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

Shadow Draft Picks

The amount of Kareem Jackson picks in round 1 (myself included) shows a large amount of faith in Kubiak as I’m sure none of us would have chosen him without seeing the Texans draft him first. It will be very interesting to see if the Texans draft another shocker next year how the results will look in comparison.

Great job dude

You deserve a lot of credit for the work you’ve put in. Didn’t you design the program yourself?

I like

Loftin’s Live draft. With Dan Williams, Morgan Burnett(before injury), Perish Cox, Cam Thomas, and LeGarrette Blount all having immediate impacts.

And I still like my own shadow with Dan Williams, Major Wright, Mitch Petrus, and James Starks.

I wish we could hire coaches without "having grown up in Houston" being a job requirement.

I also need to thank Phil

for the work he put in on the drafting program for the IDP BRB league we ran. Thanks again.

Excellent work, Phil (and the rest of the drafters). Look forward to seeing it again this year.

Everyone loved the guy

I think BRB should be the new GM of the texans.

Most of these are better than what the texans actually did

by AllenOU on Jan 21, 2011 4:24 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

But the BIG question is.....

how would some of these picks played out w/ the Texans’? Would our coaches have known what to do w/ them? As good as Kubes offense is, he has a bad habit of sticking people on the bench or burying them in the depth chart if he doesn’t like them personally.

How'd so many people get Dorin Dickerson right?

He was expected to go in the 2nd or 3rd round

So when we got him in the 7th, people were pretty excited (especially after they said he would be a WR).

More clarification on the shadow draft

The live draft had all undrafted players available at each pick.

The shadow draft only had those players taken between Texans picks available, so you were more limited each round. So Holliday, for example, was one of 30ish players available at that pick, not the whole group of undrafted players.

Outstanding job

I feel much shame for not participating more. This is an absolutely fantastic idea.

A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

You had a lot of good picks

Except for Robert Johnson, surprise, looks like all of the players saw playing time. Some even started many games.

I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

Okay, this looks suspicious to me
cutblock
20. Kareem Jackson CB Alabama
58. Ben Tate RB Auburn
81. Earl Mitchell DT Arizona
102. Darryl Sharpton ILB Miami (Fla.)
118. Garrett Graham TE Wisconsin
144. Sherrick McManis CB Northwestern
187. Shelley Smith OG Colorado State
197. Trindon Holliday WR LSU
227. Dorin Dickerson TE Pittsburgh

Are we sure he ain’t Rick Smith?

Just as bfd said I need to participate more.

Other than the first two rounds I did not know anything about anybody. I also only picked in the first round. Lol great work rivers!
