""I had five good years in Houston, and I did leave on a bad note," Leach said. "When I was there, I laid it all on the line for Houston, whether I was hurt or not. During my time there, they paid a lot of players I felt didn't necessarily deserve to get paid. What disappointed me was when it was time for me, maybe my last contract, to get a good deal ... I didn't have to be the highest-paid fullback."
-Vonta Leach to Jeffrey Martin of the Houston Chronicle
Just a couple days after saying that he didn't leave Houston "on a bad note," The Human Coke Machine completely reverses course and claims he did leave town on a bad note. Zuh?

He said that it was less than what he'd already been making
He claims he was willing to stay in Houston for less than the Ravens’ offer

for the work he put in
Im sure cheap bob low balled him, smh

Cheap? Instead of signing help we desperately needed in the secondary, we should have overspent on arguably the least important position in our offense?
As of the 4th, the Texans have a total of $2.7 million left in cap room. I’m pretty sure at one point during the preseason/early season that number was only six digits.
Remember, this isn’t the MLB. There are rules about how much money an owner can spend.

Could not care less about this. Total non-story.
Nobody thought there weren’t hard feelings. There’s always hurt feelings when it comes to stuff like this.
One thing I don’t understand that Vonta said was – and correct me if I was just reading this wrong – that the offer he got was lower than the contract he had just finished playing under?
“The deal that was offered to me was disrespectful to me and my family,” he said. “It was a lesser deal than I just got finished playing for them for.”

10th most profitable franchise in ALL of sports on the planet
yet you couldnt pay this man McNair?
his frugal ways is vomit-inducing and a slap in the face to all Texans fans..
I understand Casey had potential to step up admirably and adds another dimension Leach doesnt have..
BUT, you dont let the #65 ranked player (voted by his peers) in the game today over
as in the comments above, he was the best fullback, yet he would’ve not even demanded top fullback money..
Leach just wanted to be taken care of, and damnit he deserved it..
shoulda gave jacoby’s money to Leach, smh

Salary cap, dude. We're right up against it as it stands.
We can argue about whether or not Jacoby should have been resigned, but we would have had to draft or sign a FA WR to replace him if he walked.
Fact is that on a relative basis, Vonta was just the least important person to resign,.
we just traded for derrick mason
in the middle of the season nonetheless.. so that logic is overrated.. bob is cheap. water is wet
eff jacoby and his inconsitstent azz, Leach BROUGHT IT every. single. day.
Houston errthang.. first off, get rid of pubes.. Rockets-Texans-Dynamo & Longhorn fan.. an Astros fan these days is an oxymoron
Leach brought it on like 1/3 of all offensive snaps.
Mason only costs about $1,000,000 against the cap at most this year. That $1,000,000 would not have been enough to keep Leach here.
Whether you want Jacoby or not, fact is that we would have had to go out and pay for another WR if he walked before we could try to resign Leach.
I wish he was still on the team, but the economics just didn’t make sense.
guess ur drinking the kool aid, dont believe the hype
he couldve been afforded
dont know what point u made with the 1/3 off all snaps.. and jacoby brings it on 1/3 of a 1/3 of all offensive snaps ;)
Houston errthang.. first off, get rid of pubes.. Rockets-Texans-Dynamo & Longhorn fan.. an Astros fan these days is an oxymoron
My point is that it's hard to justify spending a lot of money on someone who is only on the field a third of the time.
Who do you not re-sign to sign Leach?
Not sure what Kool-aid and hype have to do with not resigning Leach.
I’m not saying that they couldn’t have afforded him if they really wanted to keep him, but rather that he wasn’t worth what he would have cost, especially given the other needs we had on the team.
Jacoby?

Thje NFL is a business... Period...
Sometimes feelings get hurt…. but the nature of business is bussiness. Even if we let go enough people go to pay him what he wanted…. what would be the ROI? Right now the best RB in the league “FOSTER” is playing for chicken feed… He’s not crying…. he loves the game….and Foster knows that the game is bigger than he is….he will probably cry in the offseason but not now because it is the time to put up and shut up. If Leach had been patient no one said that he may have not gotten a better deal done with the availability in the cap now…
Doin stuff so nasty that you have to do it twice to confirm the level of nasty!!
somethin tells me we're going to shock all the haters

Kudos to Rick Smith for sticking to his guns on Vonta's contract situation
I liked Vonta and he’s a great FB, but he’s not the only guy who can play FB. I don’t think the team has suffered because of the choices that were made. But, good luck with him when he’s not playing against the Texans. If he has a chip on his shoulder, all the better for him. It’s good to play with a chip and have something to prove. It’s also good that he did get his money and he’s happy where he is. Good for him.
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

I don't care what he says.
I still don’t understand why people here STILL overrate him. He’s a FB people. Casey is a far better player than he is at that spot and actually gives the offense flexibility when he’s on the field.
Sorry Vonta but you’re a relic of the past. Thanks for giving the Texans some solid years blocking.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.
