Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Oh, boy. Hope he learned how to tackle NFL players on the practice squad.

The Texans also signed S Torri Williams and RB Jarvarris Williams to the squad.

Oh boy...

Talk about your potential special teams disasters.

So we let OB1 go and pick up JW?

On one hand I’m glad to see movement from the FO. It’s a refreshing experience that they are being creative in FA, trades, etc. On the other hand, I don’t understand their vision for success with some of these choices.

Keo better learn to play special teams better than pre-season showed.

Whhy criticize the FO?

It’s not like Ogbonaya did anything to make us want to keep him.

Unless Tate and Ward were both injured... oh, they were.

I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

They were.

But they’re both healthy now, that’s why cutting a player in a position with great depth isn’t that bad of a thing. Your sarcastic remarks are fucking annoying when you fail to get your facts straight.

Okay, sorry about that, but think about this

Tate has been injured on and off this season with his hammy. Ward has a high ankle sprain which is easily re-injured. There is a strong possibility that one of them or both will go down again. OB1 knows the playbook and is not totally without skills. Sure, he isn’t flashy, but he was adept at picking up blitzes and catching the ball in the flats. But he’s gone now. So, with the strong possibility that any of the three current RBs can go down, they lose that insurance and now bring in a new guy that doesn’t know the playbook and who knows what kind of skills he has? So, while you think my answer was wiseass, I thought it was obvious and quite frankly, I am surprised that YOU are offended by a wiseass answer seeing how that is one of your specialties.

I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

I've thought about it.

And you’re still fucking annoying.

Ogbonnaya’s stint with the Texans is about as long as JW’s. They both know the playbook. If you had your facts straight, you would’ve known that.

You’re talking about Ogbonnaya as if he’s a fringe talent that just needed some snaps to succeed, but the truth is, he’ll never be more than a special teamer.

And how can you assess that JW can’t do the same thing that Ogbonnaya did as a 4th string RB if you weren’t even aware of his existence?

They picked him up because he is also familiar with the system. He can pick up blitzes if needed or run dummy flat routes out of the back field.

We didn’t lose out on anything by cutting Ogbonnaya.

So quit your bitching.

I didn't specify everything, but the FO has me a bit confused on their actions...

like cutting punter Hartmann, then signing him
cutting Trindon Holiday, then signing him
cutting Kareem Jackson….oh wait!

This sig intentionally left blank.

by MeMongo on Oct 19, 2011 4:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe they saw something at the last minute that they didn't like about Maynard

so they decided to cut him and sign Hartmann instead. Or the more likely scenario, they realized that they made a mistake and fixed that mistake.

BTW This is just a punter that we’re talking about. It’s not like we released a skill position player that had potential to be a star or anything.

Holiday will never make an impact in this team. But the coaches and the team keeps giving him a chance to show that he can produce. It’s not a big deal, so why criticize?

Now about Jackson. Sheesh. You got me on that one. There’s no excuse really.

What I’m trying to get at is why criticize the FO for moves that are not completely fucking up or having a negative impact on the team?

Front office plant? :- )

…but you’re right. the front office made moves this off season and moved on a quality option at WR already. Uncharacteristic but at least they realize their jobs with the organization are hanging in the balance.

yea i think everybody saw this one coming.

really a no brainer, a safety gets hurt you bring one up. I wonder who gets on the field first Holiday or keo.

Keo, he's taking Barber's spot on special teams

Holliday will remain inactive at least until they see that Manning’s workload is too much for him

Workload?

since every kickoff is now a touchback it likely will be a change determined by limited production… or lack thereof.

and i can’t imagine they trust him to catch a punt based on what we have seen.

I am hoping Keo is going to get a shot at returning kicks as well it seems he will play some special teams. He did this pretty well, returning the ball, based on some scouting reports I read. I have no idea what Holliday is doing there if they aren’t going to use him, and I am not sure they should.

by trex76 on Oct 20, 2011 7:52 AM CDT reply actions

Keo looked like crap in my estimation during the preseason

He did not impress on STs or in the D backfield. But, he’s still here and he’s been practicing with the team all season, so maybe he has something. We’ll see if they activate him on gameday.

Question:

Does keeping a player on PS offer a team any more leverage to sign the player over other teams?

by jkcheng122 on Oct 20, 2011 9:48 AM CDT reply actions

The only restriction that I know of (and by that I mean I just read it somewhere right now)

is that you can’t sign someone from your next opponent’s practice squad within 6 days of the game (I.E. no hiring someone to find out what the literal game plan being installed is).

Other than that, the other team just has to sign them to their active roster.
