Texas. Versus. Dirt Burglar Community College. It's on.
I'm told there are other games going on today, but they don't matter. Talk college football here.

Al Davis died....
Condolences to the Davis family.
I honestly don’t know if I should congratulate the franchise though.

Wow.
Somebody said Al Davis was dead in the Venn diagram thread and I thought it was another joke. I haven’t seen any headlines yet.
Condolences to the family and Raider Nation (who appear to love him despite some of his eccentricities).
Oh, and although I wish the Horns luck today (as I could never root for Oklahoma), I feel compelled to add that I hold them entirely responsible for the turmoil and upheaval that now defines the Big 9.

It was such an ass-kicking that I can’t even concoct some sort of shadowy conspiracy involving the Trilateral Commission to argue how the Horns got screwed. Due to the one-sided nature of the score, of course, plus everyone knows they don’t let Okies into the Trilateral Commission.

if it was a typically dumb commercial, where they started out under the bridge, dancing and listening to shitty music, that would be one thing. Buddy of mine (a Giants fan) has a theory
that, once a head coach wins a title, you are not allowed to talk shit about that coach. I’ve never bought into that, but I used the “well, Lloyd only got half a title” out to justify my hatred. Thoughts on this, given the schizo nature of the Mack Brown Experience?
The Two-Day Hangover @ Battle Red Blog (2011) & SBN Houston (2010) | Twitter
by MDC on Oct 8, 2011 7:59 PM CDT up reply actions
I Don't Buy It
The nature of fandom necessarily requires questioning the coach at times; I don’t care how many titles he wins. While a championship certainly adds credence to a coach’s legitimacy, it doesn’t put him beyond criticism.
Mack is a stud, and what he’s done for Texas football is immeasurable. I will forever be appreciative of what he and his charges gave me on that beautiful night of January 4, 2006 in Pasadena, but I’ll be damned if winning a title somehow makes him or any other coach immune to anyone questioning him/them.

I agree.
I guess, more accurately, my friend’s theory is that you can never start bitching and wanting the coach to be fired. I think minor bitching is allowed. I don’t recall exactly.
Either way, I refused to buy it because Lloyd Carr was the bane of my existence for so very long.

R.I.P Al Davis
We say goodbye to one of the greatest and most influential men in football. Not only was he a crucial part of the AFL NFL merger but was also a great humanitarian. He hired the first Hispanic coach one of the first black coaches and one of the first women in a position of power in the F.O. Rest well sir you deserved it.

Anyone know why si.com stopped posting pics of college cheerleaders? That’s the best part of college football. Swimsuit, NFL, NBA, a few others…but no more college? That ain’t right.
Dear Michigan,
Why? Why do you do this to me? I’ve rooted for you - lived and died with every game - for 24 years now. TWENTY-FUCKING-FOUR. That’s longer than I’ve stuck to anything, ever. And what do I have to show for that? Half a national title in 1997 (fuck Nebraska, corn-fucking sonsabitches) and more almost-but-not-quite moments than anyone should have to endure. A string of losses against Ohio State. A loss to App State. The second half of all of RichRod’s seasons. Vince Young in the Rose Bowl. Hell, nearly every Rose Bowl in that time period has been shitty for Michigan fans. Oh, then there were the John Navarre years. And the Chad Henne years. The list, she goes on and on.
I should give up on you. But I obviously am not going to do that. So, please, for the love of the deity of your choice, COULD YOU NOT FUCKING LOSE TO NORTHFUCKINGWESTERN?!?!?!?!!??
Yours in Christ,
Matt

Nope.
I’ve got a weird superstition about Michigan games. I think I’ll use it for my 2DH lead-in, however, so I won’t give it away here. It basically boils down to my being convinced that I have caused every Michigan loss in the last 20+ years. There’s science behind it. (Or, you know, “science.”)

What's your opinion of him as a prospect?
He seems like a smaller version of Newton to me. So I think he can make it if he can tighten up his throws. Do you agree/disagree?
Canal Street Chronicles-A place of great Saints news and information. Oh and the stuff I write!
Bring back Aaron Brooks! He's the only one who can save us from the evil that is Drew Brees!!
Nah.
He’s the prototypical college spread/option-read QB. He’s got a good arm, but he can’t beat you solely with it, and his decision-making is suspect. He’s just able to hide that at the college level because he’s so much faster than the people around him. It’s like video game shit.
Worse though, he lists at 6-0, but he’s more like 5-10. With his speed, there’s probably some sort of role for him at the next level, but I can’t imagine that it would be QB. Maybe KR? Or a WR/KR like Randle-El (another midget college QB)?

The problem with Newton
Was that he wasn’t in a system that really enabled us to see if he COULD be a good quarterback. And in NFL-prospectdom, being a sure thing in the pros is all about the kind of tape that scouts could not really round up on Newton.
Panthers oughta be commended on that pick so far. I definitely wouldn’t have made it if I were them.

Agreed on all points
I was in the same camp as Jon — I just didn’t see how playing “I’m bigger/faster/stronger than all of you” at the college level would transition. Kid looks legit, though. Somewhere, Jimmy Clausen weeps.

Sonnen then proceeds to tell Anderson Silva that he sucks, & challenges Silva to one more title fight on Super Bowl weekend with some special stipulations to the fight. If Sonnen beats Silva, Silva has to leave the Middleweight division. If Sonnen loses to Silva, he will leave the UFC forever

EPIC! Oh man what an epic turnaround that was… Got blanked by their defense for 2 quarters, got our D smacked around too.. We probably only won because we took their QB out, and suddenly the arm tackles and awful pursuit stopped occuring and we kicked some ass.
