Highly recommended, if for no other reason than to refresh your recollection about what happened to Leinart in Arizona.

Really good read.

It’s nice to remember that he was viewed as a pretty solid bet coming out of college.

True, we don't need Leinart to be great, we need him to be decent.

It’s even insane for me to suggest this but Dre and Foster/Tate have to take their game to a whole new level (if that is even physically possible for Dre). Dre is hungry for a playoff run and I hope that by them stepping up their game, it can help possibly mask any of leinart’s problems.

That was absolutely fair and right on!

This is exactly how I have been seeing it all along, even before this injury to Matt Schaub. I thought the Matt Leinart pickup was right when the Texans made it. I thought letting Orlovsky go in favor of Leinart was the right move. The whole situation is making sense to me. I have a lot of confidence that Matt Leinart will succeed as the Texans’ QB for the remainder of the season. Right now, I’m just hoping that Leinart stays healthy and Yates doesn’t have to be that guy.

Also, I mentioned this yesterday, the Texans do need to have another option at QB if indeed Schaub is out for the season. I think they have to take a look at Garrard.

I think Leinart has matured..

The Guy has always had all the tools just lacked the maturity and coaching. There is a reason he chose to stay here instead of taking a starting job with his college coach. I really think we will all be pleasontly surprised

by TexansForLife on Nov 15, 2011 11:37 AM CST via mobile reply actions

this is my thought process as well

It’s also slightly comforting to hear Leinart likes and is comfortable in this offense. BELIEVE

Not to be a Debby Downer

But wasn’t one of the reasons he stayed was to avoid a goofy QB competition in Seattle?

by brightshinies on Nov 15, 2011 12:03 PM CST up reply actions

Why would he want to avoid a QB competition

by staying where he has already lost one? “Compete for a starting job?” says Leinart, “Why, when I can stay where I am and not even have a chance?”

by JBal on Nov 15, 2011 12:13 PM CST up reply actions

My understanding of the situation was Seattle signed Tarvaris Jackson

And Leinart was all like “Oh f#@$ this”. Instead he stayed to develop another year under Kubiak. I guess I meant to ask if that was part of the reason, implying I don’t (and maybe we don’t) know the details of what happened in Seattle. But if you do, please enlighten, as my knowledge of that transaction is a bit hazy.

by brightshinies on Nov 15, 2011 12:45 PM CST up reply actions

I think his mindset is that the situation will be much more stable here and he has already been learning the offense.

Rather than learn a new offense to compete against a guy who had been under the current OC there before, here he knows he’s not the starter but will be if anything should happen to Schaub.

Over there even if he had won the job over Jackson, he has no room to make mistakes, if he has a 2 or 3 INT game, he’ll get benched for Jackson and if Jackson doesn’t play well it’ll go back and forth. He already dealt with that in Arizona I don’t think he wants to go through it again.

by jkcheng122 on Nov 15, 2011 12:52 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

exactly.

I’m thinking he made a better decision for his career. He figured the Seahawks were going nowhere, the bootleg offense and strong Oline is better fitted to his skill set. Plus, Knapp and Kubiak are very capable QB gurus.

by wiseonekms on Nov 15, 2011 3:38 PM CST up reply actions

I think he preferred the system in Houston that fit his style, and Kubiak had a lot of confidence in him.

Another year to develop and let the league shake out the QBs to open up an opportunity made more sense than going with uncertainties like he faced in AZ. Now he has a chance to take the helm of a team in position to do great things.

If he can’t perform under these circumstances, he’s finished and can go sell hot tubs.

If he does well, he’ll get a starting job elsewhere and we’ll get a high pick trade.

If he lights it up and we win championships, he may be negotiating the job here.

by MeMongo on Nov 15, 2011 12:53 PM CST up reply actions

Again

I don’t see how our system is a better fit to his style than the offense his former college coach runs. A system in which he had the highest success. My guess is it had to do more with the organization and personnel than anything.

Ken Wisenhunt hasn't found a QB after Warner retired...nuff said about his QB evaluation ability

“Whisenhunt preferred Anderson, and cut the former first-round pick [Leinart]. Anderson was arguably the worst opening day starter in football, and the team bounced between him and rookies Max Hall and John Navarre throughout the season. Each rated among the worst quarterbacks in football. The following year, Whisenhunt traded for Kevin Kolb. Kolb was, not coincidentally, one of the worst quarterbacks in football this season before suffering an injury. Whisenhunt is the primary reason why Matt Leinart is considered a bust, and over the course of his career as Cardinals coach, Whisenhunt has shown virtually no ability to pick the right starting quarterback for his team.”

"The bust label implies Leinart was fairly evaluated by a competent coaching staff. That doesn’t appear to be the case. "

Deep Ball

How well does Leinart throw the deep ball? It seems most the time Matt 1 throws a deep pass the WR is usually slowing down or practically stopping to catch it. Is it due to most the passes coming on a roll out or does Matt 1 just not have a great deep ball?

by wkittinger on Nov 15, 2011 11:55 AM CST reply actions

Leinart doesn't have the strongest arm but I think he has a better arm than Shaub and he's pretty accurate..

Not to take anything away from Shaub as his footwork and ability to sell the fake is considered the best. Whether Leinart can sell the fake will be the biggest question and is so key when you do play action.

I have a strange feeling...

…that Leinart will do fine. No worries. Yet.

Me too.

Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print.
Never use a long word where a short one will do.
If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.
Never use the passive where you can use the active.
Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent.
Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.

A season to remember

One day we will look back and dissect all the things that happen to us this year. We questioned everything, hiring wade, signing j jo not asmuahhh, drafting watt not nick fairy or prince amukakka. Now this lienart week give us a problem we won’t mind having, qb contraversy. Lienart trade to washington/denver for 2nd rnd pick/

Gary mentioned that all of the adversity has kept everyone more focused each week.

No time to think, because it’s “What are we going to do to cover for [insert injured starter here]’s injury next week?” every week.

We questioned hiring Wade Phillips?

The only concern I had was if Kubiak stinks it up and gets fired, Wade’d be our coach.

you left out cutting Hartmann, resigning Hartmann, cutting Bulman, resigning Bulman, cutting Holliday, resigning Holliday, cutting.........

Just give THOR time under center.

He qb’d a lil amirite? Always need a backup’s backup’s backup. He can take the snap, flea flicker it to himself, then throw it to himself in the flats. Sounds like a fool-proof plan to me.

To say noone ?ed wade is a bit off

I dont recall who it was but there wasnt so much certainty of wade fitting here because it was just another one of them, hire my boy situations. My point is more about how this is a team that has been through allot and have become a unit that will find away to not lose. I’m all in this year and matt was my biggest ?mark except for kareem n DT we will lock up the#1 seed n have pieces for to play with this off season.

I'd like to see how soft we are

after we finish the season with Leinart at the helm as the no.1 seed in AFC.
