Thanksgiving Football: Open Thread

Some might say that Packers-Lions or Niners-Ravens is the Game O' The Day. Others--I call us "The Elect"--are far more focused on cheering our beloved Longhorns to victory tonight in College Station.

No matter which of those groups you belong to, this is your open thread for today's slate of Thanksgiving football action. Do it to it.

Definitely.

It just seems relevant because so many of us wanted him here so bad (especially me). Joseph has worked out unbelievably well and seems to have been a much better choice for us though.

your right about that

The Eagles have been using Nnamdi horribly though.

He would probably be doing amazing in Houston.

Haynesworth also got in a jab at Texans QB Matt Schaub, whom he openly taunted in the media while with the Titans. It was Haynesworth who fell on Schaub’s foot that caused the Texans quarterback to be lost for the season.

“He screamed like normal,” Haynesworth said of the hit.

yeah just found it.

In 2012, Johnson will receive a base salary of $8 million. The base salary is guaranteed for injury only at the time of signing. It becomes fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2012 League Year.

The base salary reduces by $250,000 if Johnson doesn’t participate in the team’s offseason workout program. It drops by another $300,000 if he doesn’t rush for 1,000 yards in 2011.

In 2013, Johnson’s salary is $10 million, $9 million of which is guaranteed for injury only now. It becomes fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2013 League Year. The salary drops by $250,000 if he fails to complete the offseason workout program.

In 2014, Johnson’s salary is $8 million, with the same $250,000 de-escalator. Ditto for 2015.

In the final year of the deal, Johnson’s salary will be $7 million, with a $2 million roster bonus due on the seventh day of the 2016 League Year. The base salary can drop by up to $2 million based on rushing yards, along with a potential $250,000 reduction based on participation in offseason workouts.

It works out to a be a six-year, $56 million deal. That’s an average of $9.3 million.

Suh isnt a thug IMO. He just has a temper.

so after 3 quarters of BS calls he got pissed and got violent. what about the Packer who got ejected before hand. Thug? what about Cam Newton he got into a fight during the saints game. Does he have no respect for the game? Dare i say (and I sure as hell dont mean it) Andre threw punches at Finnegan does he not have a lace in the game? Given Suh’s play was about as dirty as they come, but comparing him to Haynesworth and saying he has no respect for the game is a little much. Football players aren’t perfect sweethearts bro.
From what I see Suh is a good person with a temper on the football field. He does a lot of charity work, which I dont associate with Thugs that often. I’m not saying he’s Tebow but dont let 1 play during infuriating circumstances define the man as human scum.

I wouldn't

Whatever good playing he can bring is imediately offset by the penalties he incurrs. His actions can turn the momentum of the game, just as it did in the Chicago game, and in this one today. I’d rather have the good natured Cody—who creates team cohesion— with mediocre play than a good player who is a team disruption, such as Suh or Haynesworth.

Huge difference betweens fights (Lee and Johnson were both provoked by a punk) and what Suh did.

The guard made a good play on Suh, and Suh responds by shoving his head into the ground repeatedly and stomping on his arm while he could not defend himself. That’s thuggery at its finest.

Adventure Time, c'mon grab your friends. We'll go to very distant lands. With Jake the Dog and Finn the Human, the fun will never end. It's Adventure Time!

by firestorm420 on Nov 24, 2011 7:50 PM CST up reply actions

From what I heard

the Guard was holding then pulling him down post play. However thats not the point. That was a terrible decision by Suh much MUCH worse than Lee and Johnsons. (I put it in there for exaggeration infact) Dirty Player Yes. Immoral Thug? Im not so sure

by BC5 on Nov 24, 2011 7:36 PM CST up reply actions

even if the gaurd was

that may excuse the minor act of pushing his head into the turf, but the stomping was over the top and completly unacceptable

I agree with you

just because someone lets there anger and frustration get the better of them once or twice does not make them a thug.. however when one does it as much as Suh has, it makes them be labeled as a dirty player or as some would call them a thug. everyone else you mentioned had one incident, Suh had multiple. That said Suh has more respect for the game then Haynesworth, and they shouldnt be compared in that regard, Suh plays hard all the time were as Haynesworth doesnt, but people only see the “dirty plays” and equalized them as the same

Texas vs Texas A&M

Hook Em Horns!
The Longhorns are my team in the NCAA, I root for them much like I root for the Texans in the NFL.
Gotta say tho – it is a SHAME that this traditional rivalry will all but come to end with this game.. a century of games and this is the last for at least about a decade.. I blame it on the egos, of both schools, Texas’s ego to make their own network and get more $$, and A&Ms ego getting hurt because of it, and in turn jumping ship. But bottom line Im a Longhorn fan and I see it through Orange colored glasses, A&M is the one who is jumping ship and is leaving the conference, therefor I want this last Big 12 clash against them to be a memorable victory for UT

I for one am not sick of it

COD and Madden are my fav games, both can be very simialr year to year but at least call of duty mixes it up, they have different companys produce the game every year (switching off, doing 1 every other year) so on one you get zombies, on the other you get special ops missions. and the story line varies.
But its all about the online pay which IS the same, but with different maps/guns.
Either way Call of Duty is the best first person shooter and Madden is the best NFL game year after year, with COD making more money then anything else, not just games but all entertainment! they make more then movies music and games!

yea

the zombies are def. the better “extra” from tryeacrh, infinity ward does the modern warfare line with special ops.. i like both but have to say the zombies are much better.. and the rest is pretty much the same with different maps/guns… but i also get COD everyyear, Im obsessed.. same with Madden although I can skip a year here n there with them (had madden 08,09,10,11, and will prolly wait till 13 n skip 12)

I'm sorry but Madden is absolute shit.

The only reason they can make a game is because they hold a monopoly. If 2k had a chance they would crush EA out of the football game.

this

is most likely true. Madden does hold a monopoly on NFL games. However i truely enjoy their games and think there great. The only thing is year to year its the SAME game. you pay for updated rosters/stats, thats it. You can play online vs mode for 2 years before they shut it down, so I really see no reason to buy it every year, when I can buy it every other year, sitll play Franchise and Online, and just upgrade every 2 years.. and 60$ once every 2 years isnt bad… and 2K was the shit in the early 2000’s.. but its not available anymore so…

all 3 can be argued but my vote goes to Sanchez, he just plays like shit. Smith has the benifit of a great D and newly found QB coach (in the head coach Harbaugh) and frank gore, same with Flacco having great D and ray rice

to be 6-6 in the Big 12 with the best team they have had in more than a decade, so yeah, I think they very likely won’t win enough games in the SEC to even be bowl eligible.

by Bobbythegreat on Nov 25, 2011 6:28 PM CST up reply actions

The Aggies have a good offense, a propensity for anti-clutch, and a terrible secondary.
But yes, by all means, the Longhorns (who are ending the rivalry, make no mistake about it) are the Texans of the NCAA. Because the Texans are the type of team that would demand their own national network.
Ever notice that UT seems to have an odd propensity for destroying a conference’s stability? Between the SWC and Big 12-4+1, I wouldn’t exactly mind if they went independent after the B12-4+1 collapses. Maybe then they’d have enough room in their non-con schedule to fit in A&M and continue the greatest rivalry in Texas.
For the record, I’m not even an Aggies fan. I’m (tentatively) a UH fan. I just REALLY hate UT. Oh well, I guess that just means that UH-Rice will become the premier in-state rivalry :D

I don’t see why they shouldn’t be blamed. It’s not like A&M is the one that’s destroying a 120 year-old rivalry. They’ve said that they’ll play UT anytime, anywhere. UT only refuses to play them because A&M refused to bow down to the almighty Longhorn juggernaut.

UT are the Cowboys of the NCAA.

They are all hype every. single. year. OU are the Texans of the NCAA. They just go out and do their job and let the score do the talking.

I'd say the Texans are more like Boise State

Pretty good team that’s always ended up on the outside looking in. That will change this season for the Texans.

Also on a side note:

I'd say the Texans have traditionally been more like Texas Tech.

Great offense, but defense can’t get their shit together. Otherwise they’d be a juggernaut.
Also, they only have a cult following.

Of course, that too is changing this year.
