What happened to our QBs???

Has anyone noticed a correlation between the Texans' draft and their Quarterback injuries? I think I figured it out. Now if you exclude the 2007 Season where Schaub was injured every other quarter, every time we draft a QB our Starting QB gets hurt to the point he misses games/is lost for the Season.

Seriously, take a look at our team and you'll see what I'm talking about. I don't include 2007 because why would Rick have drafted a QB immediately after giving up so much to Atlanta for "Matt Sr."?

In 2008, enter Alex Brink (who I still think was a good draft choice, wish he had stuck) and down goes Schaubby with a knee injury.

2009? No QB drafted, we finish 9-7 and Matt wins Pro-Bowl MVP Honors.

2010? No QB drafted, and if our defense had been somewhat mediocre Matt would have logically been in the running for MVP Candidate with his passing numbers while at the helm of a prolific offense.

2011? Still washing the bad taste out of my mouth. Enter T.J. "Pro Style Offense" Yates and down goes Matt Sr., Matt Jr. and a whole other cast of players.

Dear Rick, NO MORE QBS IN THE DRAFT! (Unless it's Case Keenum)

Interesting take

In fairness, you only present two data points for QBs being drafted which is not enough to trend out of ten seasons. I’ve actually been nervous that we hadn’t been drafting a QB most years, knowing the impact a lost starter can have.

As for 2008’s injury to Schaub, we can hang that on that scumbag Haynesworth who deliberately went after Matt and taunted about it (before and after).

One thing is for sure, we NEED depth at QB in today’s NFL where so many are getting injured. We also need depth at OL with an overt focus on replacing that lazy ineffective #74 Wade Smith who personally cost us the Saints and Raiders games from missed blocks, and it was his guy who blew through to take down Leinart.

Thanks for the analysis!

I realize the normal rule of thumb is 3 is a trend, but taken the small sampling size I think it was interesting to note. You have to factor the percentage with Smithiak involved, from the 2006-2011 Seasons (I include 2006 because Rick was there right? Wait, no, that was all Casserly’s Draft). So, 2007-2011, 2 out of those 5 drafts we took a QB. That’s 40% of the drafts we have taken a QB, and 100% of those picks has correlated to our Starter getting injured. I know, inflated percentages, but I thought it was ironic.

I completely agree that we desperately need depth at QB and OL. But honestly, if you take a look at the other 31 teams, which one doesn’t? It’s just unfortunate that we can’t hold onto a back-up QB long enough to have faith in him. It’s also unfortunate that we put so much pressure on our backups with the lack of reps they get most of the time. Thankfully, I guess Knapp has been treating both backups like they were starters so they’re “more prepared”.

In defense of Wade Smith, he’s just not that good a pass protection. But he is well above average in run blocking. For example, his block that sprung Foster free on his 43 yard scamper last Sunday. Beautiful! I think the combo of him and Winston on the right side is why we have most of successful runs that way.

I think this FanPost could have used a poll

Polls and Pictures

Someone should just make a post with pictures and polls

Poll...

Suggestions? “Whether drafting a QB jinxes our starting QB?” I’m still new at posting and haven’t done it in a long time…

You should be the designated poster who unabashedly cries for the Texans to draft Keenum from now until draft day

and then after they don’t draft him, mock hang yourself or something in protest.
